I totally get that... But the last few games he's been a very different player to the one that arrived. He was instrumental in getting us the points on Saturday and getting us the win last night. I didn't think that was possible after his first few games.

Tbf that thread is full of "phew, i didn't want him" when there was a tweet saying an offer from Chelsea had been accepted.

Not 99% worth eh, people had obvious reservations and all fans do a bit of that when they lose out on a target.

Yup, some high profile names posting that

Think my worst one was I didn't want to waste 40m on a bench warmer.

To be fair, he arguably should be starting regularly

He would have been on the bench even more often if Coutinho had stayed and Lallana/ Henderson been fit.

Agree with coutinho and lallana, but not hendo. Different positions at times, and rotation would see him start more often than not

Ha made up quote and in any case once he said he was choosing us over Chelsea I said that trumped his injury record problem which was my main concern and I would welcome him gladly

I tracked down mine ;

Before he signed ;

I don't think he's shit. I don't mind him but he has supposedly turned down big wages at Arsenal and would be costing more than Salah. It's okay for Chelsea to sign him and allow him rotate with Moses as they can afford that luxury. I think we should be looking at different options to him. Happy to see us 'pass' this opportunity up.

After he signed;

I've gone through various stages in this transfer. I was disinterested to begin with. I felt it was a bit of a luxury signing for us and I was happy to hear that he was destined for Chelsea. Yeah good player but it had the hallmarks of a Chelsea signing (expensive player to rotate with their wing backs). I suppose that's why he turned them down. He's here now so I'm happy to get behind him. Ryan's post and the enthusiasm of a few others have me coming round a little. I was totally nonplussed about his arrival. I like him but I wouldn't be jumping up and down with excitement that we got him but I do think he'll do well for us in a few different positions. I'm a sucker for pacey and powerful playing.

Positives?
  • Pace
  • Power
  • Took a pay cut to be here
  • Gerrard is his idol
  • Plenty of experience for a relatively young age
  • He looks like a TMNT
Negatives?
  • Expensive for a lad with one year left on his contract
  • Suspect Injury record
  • He looks like a TMNT

This is a really good signing.
We need squad depth, he can play at CM, AM, WF and FB, hes cheap (considering todays prices) a tidy player and on a 5 year deal will instantly go from being worth £35m today to £60m tomorrow.
Hes a Liverpool fan, hes fucking RAPID, and he turned down the Russians rubles.

Hes not a fire in the park signing and lets get real if we dont get Lemar and VVD we will still have had a disappointing window, but a very good young player for a reasonable fee, makes great sense.

Im dead chuffed about this one.
I do get the concerns in that he hasnt truly lived up to his promise, but unlike say Dele Alli he has been rotated in and out of rhe side. And we have undoubtably seen glimpses of a really good player.
This is one I really trust Klopp on. If you look at what Klopp has done with Lallana, Can and Mane bringing their game on so much you just have to say fair play and trust the man will bring out the player we had all the hype about 4 years ago. At 22 there is plenty of time.

And its so so soooo fucking good he jibbed Chelsea. The fucking champions by the way.

Hes already become a favourite for me.
Oh and he WAS on the list a few years back.
Wenger got him culled the fucking beakers grandad looking motherfucker.

I dont get people saying hes meh.
Hes a really fucking good young player.
Hes not marquee, hes not world class, but hes good. We need lots of good players to compete.

Hes cost 15m less than Sigurdson!!! I mean thats fucking amazing in my book.

Maybe some of you havnt watched him play?

Got to page 17 finding my quotes.
Stand by every word. And I agree with Brendan. Two bad games and everyone is calling him shit again .

Depressingly my main concerns seemed to be about the money and whether we can afford to pay what he cost for a squaddie / project.

Hopefully he can continue to improve and none of that will matter.

I actually did not agree with his signing but mainly because I just did not get why we signed him and for what purpose when it was agreed that Coutinho would stay on, plus the price we paid seemed OTT given that he was mainly a sub for Arsenal. However, come January it made sense.as obviously there must have been some agreement between our owners and Barca that Coutinho would go in January.

But in terms of the guys talent - it was never in any doubt and I fully got why Klopp wanted to sign him. Take your minds back to the first game of last season at the Emirates against Arsenal - it was Ox that started their near comeback with that darting run and shot into our goal. In many ways that is what Sane has been doing for Man City for most of this season. The guy always scared me when he played for Arsenal because when Klopp said in one of his press interviews about him having 'unbelievable talent' - there is an element of truth - he has pace, he is quite bull like in his build with powerful strength and the boy can dribble a bit too, plus that final power shot. Overall he has all the talent to make him a world class player and is typically your Klopp player type.

His problem is his decision making - it's just not there sometimes and its a big let down - yesterday he had that chance to pass to Firminio but got stopped trying to shoot when it was not really on - I am sure we would have been 4-0 up. But also - many of you talk about a great performance yesterday - I did not think it was consistent enough for that entire game - he needs to do a bit more tackling rather than stand around and watch the game go by him. But at this moment he really is our only real effective offensive midfield player - we don't have any others that can play like him.

I want him to play more if it does not cost us too much - as I think he could build a great partnership with Henderson - but he needs to be alive for the whole 90minutes - there is certainly desire in him to improve and play for the team as his reaction to being subbed against united showed. I want this guy to succeed - I really hope he can keep it up.

I think this was a pretty good insight:
I think what makes the Ox different from many Arsenal players is that he's not a fair-weather type, he has more raw aggression and passion about him that's probably not quite being fully used in Wenger's more cerebral way of managing. There were glimpses of it in the last game against us when they were down 3:1 and shell-shocked and he just put his head down, drove right at the heart of our defense and scored. Or in his crucial injury-time assist after coming on as a sub against United. If Klopp or another manager can tap into that instinctive and emotional place, make him feel trusted and in return ask for consistent 110% effort, I think he can be a really good player, because all the raw tools are there.

With the words of his manager ringing in his ears, the 24-year-old took aim against Manchester City 20 minutes into their Champions League quarter-final first leg and let fly probably one of the sweetest shots he has ever hit.
City goalkeeper Ederson made a move to his right but gave up as the ball flew past him into the Kop goal.
Better than his strike against the same opponent at the same end in January, it was still only his fifth goal since a £40 milllion move—something Klopp has been badgering the midfielder about.
“The manager has been pushing me all season and shouting at me for not taking the game by the scruff of the neck at times, providing those kinds of moments, being the one shooting and making the difference,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose Liverpool form has earned an England recall.
“Slowly it is starting to pay off and it helps me to create moments like that and that is what I have wanted to do from midfield.
“It definitely shows why I wanted to come here and I want to keep improving.

“That’s the way I’ve always been. At times it has gone against me because I can be hard on myself and beat myself up a bit.
“It was one of those nights where had I not scored I would have been disappointed in myself.
“I could have been better on the ball and there are areas I need to improve on and can improve on.
“The goal makes it a little bit nicer to take and that was something great to take away but I have to set the bar high.
“I have to improve to get to where I want to get and to be as good as I hope to be so I keep working on it.”

Liverpool are the Champions League’s top scorers with 31, six more than any of their quarter-final rivals, and have conceded just six goals with only Barcelona (three) having a better record among the remaining teams.

Oxlade-Chamberlain believes their set up under Klopp makes them contenders to go all the way to the final in Kiev.
“We definitely have qualities that are suited to this competition,” he added.
“You don’t get many opportunities so you have to be clinical and the three boys up front this season have managed to stand out in how clinical they have been.
“Going forward they are always a threat on the break and that is good for us because there will be times when we don’t see a lot of the ball and when we can break that is when we can hurt teams.
“You’ve seen teams go far in this competition doing that. I remember when Chelsea won it they had a lot of games where they didn’t dominate possession.”

Before the return leg at the Etihad there is the small matter of a Merseyside derby at Everton.
“You don’t need reminding how big a game that is going to be, especially at Goodison,” said the midfielder.

“That game will mean just as much if not more for our fans. It is the one of, if not the, biggest game of the season every time we play the derby.
“Then we have a job to do next week again. I don’t think we will go into it [against City] with any complacency, we would be stupid if we did that.”

I think I was quite close in my thinking, actually....

Look, I think all you guys need to get behind him, and realise that he could add some necessary dynamism to our midfield. Mark my words, I can see him having a real impact in massive games. There's every chance he'll spank in an absolute stonker of a goal in a knockout match against a big rival in Europe to put us in charge in the tie. Probably against Man City to make it 2-0.

Well, the way our midfield's looking for rest of season he will be.
