Re: The Cunt

He's joined them - it's done now. I'm not really interested in hearing / ranting any more.

Why is there no other fucking transfer news! Real's mad transfers were supposed to kickstart the market, yet we're still waiting. Can't wait for the football to start back up again.

When is our first friendly and is it on tv?
I almost don't want any more major news because all the problems seem to be heading our way over Alonso and Mascherano.

Like someone already said, if the transfer window closed now it would be excellent for us.

If The Cunt does well for Utd he'll get slaughtered for NOT taking a gamble.

If The Cunt is not a success at Utd then the only real losers are Utd, and they can afford it.

Thing is, if we had signed MO it wouldn't be a gamble. If we can afford to pay Voronin and Degen 40,000k a week we could've done the same.

I guess it's time to move on.

As grating as this whole affair is, I'm still not looking forward to the abuse MO is inevitably going to receive at Anfield.
The Cunt made his bed, he can fucking lie in it as far as i'm concerned. He deserves everything he gets on his return to Anfield and I hope Capello fucks him off too
We only hate him so much now because he was so good for Liverpool. And it's because he was so good here, there has to be a limit upon the hostility directed towards him.

There's being angry and then there's being bitter. I'd hate it, for instance, if MO were booed every time he touched the ball, as it never reflects well upon fans. A few banners and some songs would do just fine.
I disagree. I think a massive outpouring of emnity and vitriol towards him shows what football passion and rivalry are all about. For me there is no nicey, nicey middle ground where people register mild annoyance. Let him have it with everything you've got in your heart and soul about his betrayal. Let him have the negative energy in him after we've all let it out.

As was already suggested, what we cannot afford is the press asking why Lil' Mickey isn't being played and press speculation about whether he's happy on the bench etc. etc., game after game.

That argument doesn't hold much water. Nobody cares about his England future but him, and that level of disruptive press interest usually occurs in players with high transfer fees - Berbatov, Keane, Veron, etc. Not freebees.

We'd be stronger with him here, and it would have been at little risk, IMO. However I'm not gutted we missed out on Owen, my only resentment is he signed for United.
Oh what BS. Reputation ? As a player who unsettles the squad ? Where did you pull that one from ? He ripped us, Real Madrid and Newcastle apart with his divisiveness didn't he.

Dire past fitness record doesn't mean he will be injured again next season - although it may be worth a punt. Yes, he can play lone striker and yes he can play in 4-4-2 so whatever formation we play he would still have been an excellent squad player for us. As far as a foil for Torres is concerned The Cunt can hold the ball up with the best of them and his cunning in and around the box would help not hinder.

It's totally irrelevant now of course but some people just don't want to acknowledge Owen the player because of how they perceive Owen the person.
I'm going to answer Froggy's outburst here rather than sully the thread where we are celebrating the best striker in the world.

Froggy, which Owen are we talking about here? Even at his best, he couldn't play up top on his own. He needed a partner to do all the donkey work for him. I'm not really sure Rooney nor Berbatov would relish doing that.

His failure to sign an extension stank the club out for a whole season and helped doomed Ged's chances of keeping his job despite achieving the minimum of Champions League qualification.

Still, I tend to forget Owen's last 1 and half seasons with us and remember him when he actually enjoyed playing for us. It was because of those, largely sentimental, memories that I was in favour of Rafa taking a punt on him. It was a gamble because of his fitness and the media circus that inevitably comes with the Owen package. In that brochure of his, it does actually state that if Owen was injury free, he would be spoken about in the same gushing tones as Torres and Ronaldo. If that is how Owen really feels then he hasn't acquired the humility to be the impact sub/back up striker that we need.

I think you're forgetting that the media walk well trodden paths in their manners of reporting on clubs and managers. "Rafa and rotation" is so drilled in to them, that it would become an automatic issue. Not so much for the scum, but for us, definitely.

Just as Utd's defensive system won't be questioned if they concede from a corner next season.

So it's not just us then..

Seriously though, that's an interesting point.

United's defensive strength has been their ability to hold to possession and break quickly, I'm not sure much will change about the former because Fergie has it drilled into this teams to play good pass and move football and to generally keep it simple (which is why the lesser players seem to do a good job when they come in), but without a real cutting edge and with only one REAL genuine World Class player in attack (Rooney) you have to wonder if the narrow wins from last season will now turn into draws/defeats due to a lack of firepower and creativity.

Without the goals of Ronaldo and (to a lesser extent) Tevez the pressure on the defence will be greater and we've seen what happens to them when they don't get their lions share of possession, their defence can be made to look clueless.

But if they don't sign a world class finisher, it will be the first time in ages they've lacked a '20 goal man' in their team (I mean, Ronaldo , RVN, Cole, Yorke etc)

10 goals in 31 games for Newcastle last season...

the miracle is he played 31 games last season...

but having said that.. Form is temporary.. Class is Permanant

Unfortunately for Michael he lacks class in certain areas (if you get what I mean)

Because it's ad-speak, talking about general feel-good factors which (they claim) an association with this particular player will leave in people's minds. In this case they were probably also desperate to talk up as much as possible the somewhat tired "brand" they were trying to flog.

All jokes aside, from a marketing perspective, he's a lot more - shall we say - 'camera friendly' than err Rooney, Tevez, Rio or Neville.

They can use that to their benefit.
