this seems a tad premature and is really tempting fate.

Get out of our thread Neil!
no one (and I mean no one) hates owen more than me, as I'm sure anyone who frequented koptalk could tell you.
I bet there is Neil, this is someone's team name from the scm fantasy league:

owenC*ntDieOfA*ds
Which puts him perhaps halfway along the "Hate Owen" scale, compared to our very own Wilko sitting proudly at the extreme end of it. 😉

I simply can't be bothered with the little sod. He's consigned us to his past, so he belongs in ours.

He'll prove to be a good signing for United and I think he'll scored 15-20 goals this season in all comps. But the circumstances in which he arrived in the wake the departures of Ronaldo & Tevez, and his Liverpool history, will ultimately leave him harshly judged, constantly pressurised, tolerated by United fans, forgotten by Liverpool fans, and I hope very unhappy.

I don't think he'll make the WC squad.

Capello was at Old Trafford last night, and whilst watching Owen miss clear cut chances, would have heard on the radio about a Defoe hat trick.

He might. But not scoring a competitive goal since January is a hell of a monkey to haul around. If that run continues, even for two or three more games, Owen is going to be under ridiculous pressure. It will be brought up by interviewers after every game, it will be written about by all the columnists (the same w*ankers who thought he was the best signing of the summer), and Owen might really struggle- perhaps even to make it onto the Utd bench.

A Crouch esque goalless streak would be fantastic, especially now their first team is at its weakest.

But I still see a good footballer within him, and think he'll start scoring sooner rather than later

Could easily go either way. He's not a guaranteed starter so if they start scoring without him then he won't get as much of a look in.

However good Owen is (and I do still rate him) he used to go through patches without scoring even when he was at his best. He will need a run of games to get his confidence back. In the old days when he was number 1 striker he used to get that. Will he get it these days? Doubtful.

There's only so much sharpening you can do before you get to the rubber.

He's run out of lead.

Lets draw a line under him.

What's your point?

To write with a broken pencil is pointless.

Its actually 13 games going back to feb.

You're the fella that said Xabi was all about passing and not enough of everything else, right?

He'll score the winner in the Wigan away game and i'll blame this thread for it.
So will I. I wish we could stop talking about him. At least until Sunday

Has this little tosser taken oven from 'i can't stand that portugese diving cunt of a fucking winger' Ronaldo ?

I don't think he did yesterday, but the previous game in which he scored. Cringeworthy.

I think the manager will bring a mix of strikers so it comes down to defoe or owen and I think defoe will have a better season by virtue of playing more

I'd be surprised if Owen goes. It's pretty clear he's going to be a supersub for the Scum and Capello's unlikely to pick someone who isn't getting 90 minutes a game on a regular basis.

5 strikers will go. Rooney is a shoe in, Defoe will go if his form holds. That leaves 3 spots and frankly Crouch is in the same boat as Owen in terms of subs appearances. I can see Owen squyeezing in.

5 spots
rooney - nailed on
heskey - nailed on
and then its three from; carlton cole, crouch, Ibangawhore and defoe. is owen going to sneek in? I doubt it.

Crouch isn't going to play every game, but Harry likes him and I'll bet he ends the season having had a good few more starts than Owen, especially if Pavlyuchenko leaves (as there were suggestions he might in the summer).  I'm not saying Owen's definitely not going to go, but I'd back Crouchy as the more likely of the two to be on the plane.  Unless someone bursts into the picture from nowhere this season, I reckon Capello's five will be Rooney, Heskey, Defoe, Crouch and Cole. Agbonlahor will have to considerably improve his reading of the game and the choices he makes on the pitch to break into that group IMO, and the problem he'll have doing that is that he's thick as two short planks.

I think Ibangawhore will get in ahead of cole.

Heskey is far from "nailed on" with his injury record. Carlton Cole? Please! Its ok doing it against Stoke but in the WC its different and Owen (the little rat) has been there and done it.

See what you're getting at, but still disagree.  Capello has said in so many words that current form weighs heavily with him when he's picking his squads.

I doubt Fabio will want two pixie strikers in his squad. Defoe is fitter, faster and in better form - he'll surely be the one. Then Crouch offers a good alternative from the bench.
