Our starting right mid this year?

If we are serious about challenging this year we cannot have Dirk Kuyt as our starting right mid, we don't need a right winger who gets on the teamsheet because he runs around alot. Unfortunately our beloved deadly dirk doesn't have the pace, skill or ability to take on the defender to play at right mid but somehow he's there. With the young kelly coming through we should give Johnson a go on the right if we don't sign anyone else.

Welcome new poster. Lurker or brand new poster?

You mightn't get too much love for that post on here. Dirk produces the goods for us time and time again. He'll play lots of games up front and on the right.

Kuyt is often discussed on this forum.

Welcome to the site and all that but playing a right back who maybe played 10 games at right mid in his entire carreer as opposed to our top scorer last year or a 16M midfielder we just bought doesn't seem like a very good idea

Thanks for the welcome, I have been a member for a while but haven't posted. Dirk has come up with a few important goals for us but the amount of times he loses the ball, miss controls a simple pass, breaks down our attacks and fast breaks far out weighs the few important goals he does score. Also I think any attacker who plays 50 games a season for a team like Liverpool will get his fair share of tap in goals or goals off the shinpad like dirk does.

We are not yet at a level we can pay 16M (or 35) for a player and keep them on the bench. That slot is sorted and DK will be back up RM/CF.

Dirk is good enough to play in the Dutch first team. A side that nearly won WC last year and full of quality attacking talent that many clubs (including us) would love to have. Yet, Dirk is still in their first eleven. That should tell you something. Btw, welcome to the site.

Early call and all, but justicefloyd might not get my vote for newbie of the year in oncy's poll.

fuck when is that? im gona have to start canvasing for votes, maybe send out pics of my cock with googly eyes stuck on

everyone likes googly eyes, right?

Dirk will obviously start most games out there, but really - there's no such thing as a starting right midfielder for the year because we do have more than 11 players.

It's at the end of the year mate.

Oh and on a side note, I think some of the sarcasm dripping from Ryan's original post just fell on my laptop. Hahaha.

In all likliehood it will probably be Henderson if we are playing a 4-4-2 and Kuyt would be wide right of a 3 man attack in a 4-3-3 Dirk has done well since kenny took over but mainly as a striker and if we are looking to play a slick passing game in midfield the Dirk is not going to fit into that system and Kenny will be aware of that. Dirks best work has always been up front, as a midfielder all he offers is tenacity and defensive cover

Different Summer, same old shit. He'll start alot, he'll create and score goals, someone will moan about his first touch.

It will be henderson to start with. But I'm pretty sure within about 30 mins kenny will turn around to look at comolli and mouth the words "fuck you"

Then in the second half kuyt will have to take over again for the rest of the season.

And so it begins again..... I'd like to see Kuyt start up top with Suarez I think its a better partnership than Carrol. Carrol should be our Plan B. Under KK, Kuyt's first touch has vastly improved. Anyone else noticed that?

Agree with this. I think our best lineup has Kuyt and Suarez up front. That leaves Gerrard as our best option on paper starting as an inside right (with width from the overlapping Kelly/Johnson).

Having said that, if we go with this (with Gerrard, Ming and Downing/Maxi/Cole behind Suarez and Kuyt), then I expect a lot of mobility and interchanging between the 3 attacking mids and the front 2, so much so that anyone could be playing out on the right at various points of the game when we're attacking.

Not sure we'll do this though... so I think Kuyt on the right to start is what we're going to see.

I like that but I'd include Aqua in that either off the bench or in the starting line up. His passing and vision is top class.

Yeah it will be another year of 20 games where he can't control a ball, miss places simple passes, kills our fast breaks and floats a couple of crosses a game to no one on the far post. Then he'll be ok in about 10 games where he'll actually control the ball and only loses it 50% of the time, and then in 8 games he be good and scores three from inside the six yard box, one off his knee and 3 penaltys and everyone will be like "see he's the best".

We get it. You don't like Dirk Kuyt and hate close range tap ins, 'cos they don't count.

i do like dirk, but id rather have him playing as a striker than a winger, having said that he'll get goals regardless of what i think...... stubborn bastard

Yeah, cos it's not like he's ever instrumental to some of our best attacking moves. Oh right yeah, for 8 games a season.

BOLLOCKS.

Hahaha, I just think he's better playing up front and I dont think he should be our main man on the wings. It will be interesting to see Henderson out on the right.

I actually agree with you there. I think the partnership between him and Suarez has been unexpected and I hope that KK rethinks the first choice strike partnership because they are almost telepathic in their understanding. I like how they look to play 1-2's and get each other in and it fits in our pass and move philosophy. I reiterate Carrol should be 'Plan B' when we look to go more direct.

i agree, i think its obvious considering the signings we've been making though that carrolls gona be first choice

so we have all agrred that Dirk should not start on the right then? The debate now seems if he will start up front with Suarez instead of Carroll.

I just don''t see it happening.

People really have to ask themselves why opinions on certain Liverpool players , are so split? I actually like Durk, but he has some very serious limiations.
It gives me no pleasure to criticise Liverpool players and as a match going supporter of over forty years, what would me my motive, and that goes for quite a significant number.
I am with Rafa4 , he will get games I am sure , but nowhere near what he has in the past.

Regards

I think Kuyt will be mainly used as a striker this year, with Henderson being our starting RW. Kuyt can obvs start games at RW aswell. He'll play loads of games aswell this year. No doubt.
