That VAR call is a fucking joke.

Offside by a thumb or a hand, is nonsense. Feet should be it.

I'll be fuming when we get one of those given offside.

True but offside is offside, you can't argue it lol

VAR will go for and against you, what about those pens we never got awarded last season and season before? Will you be fuming when they get given too?

Sterling shoulder was slightly ahead of the last man. Marginal call. The advantage is no longer with the attacking team

The rule was only for any body part to make it easier for the lino though, now that they're using VAR & can examine it, common sense should prevail & it should be feet only. Your hand, shoulder, cock, whatever, being an inch or two further than the defender doesn't give you any advantage.

I just don't get how you can rate Edison over Alisson when he's second fiddle to him nationally, he conceded more goals last season, and he has an obsession with running out and pretending to be Pele, not saying he's not a quality keeper, Alisson is just better though.

Rodri though man, I'm not sure if you're underrating Fabinho or just assuming Rodri is good cos City signed him, give it a couple of weeks though and everyone will start to see he's a liability for City, or I'll look like an idiot, really don't rate him.

Anyway, this is all subjective I guess, the point of my original post was more just surprise at how much weaker that City team looked than I was expecting.
Since there was only 1 point between us and we won the CL whereas they failed abysmally, there should be very little between the first teams. It's always been about squad depth covering injuries.

That said we all know you don't need world class players in every position, nobody has ever had that. We have Mane, Salah, VvD, Becker and Firmino and City have both Silvas, De Bruyne, Aguero, maybe Edison and arguably Sterling. Those aside there are still no obvious weaknesses in either team (just the occasional individual fuck up, which is to be expected) and so both are golden.

Haven't seen the goal, but for offside calls with VAR, it's got to be daylight between to be called, there has to be a margin of error otherwise it'll become an absolute cluster fuck, and the art of running in behind will be killed, as players will have to give an extra yard to the defenders, to make sure their left bollock ain't offside or something.

Agree with all of that, but personally, I think Zinchenko is a glaring weakness.

No, unless they fuck up the ball to hand/handball rule.

My problem isn't with VAR (although I think it's being implemented in the mainstream too early), but with the lack of rule changes to reflect the advantages the new technology brings.

The handball in the area rule could be written much more clearly knowing it can be reviewed in slow motion, & the offside rule can be changed in similar fashion to ensure it's not given as offside unless there's an advantage (forward facing the goal with body shape could even be a factor).

You can't bring in a new piece of tech & ignore the fact that the rules were made for normal eyesight & in real time, it's nonsensical.

Great goal. Told my mate in the summer that sterling is going to be the best player in the league this season. He's improving season on season.

So much for West Ham winning the transfer window....That one goes to Everton (again)

That Haller has done well and worked hard today but he is an upgrade or even level with Arnautovic for quality? I don't think so

Man city really have mastered the art of tactical fouling , it's almost an master class in gamesmanship

That said, they still look top class on the ball and unfortunately Rodri looks pretty fucking good

VAR is fucking dreadful, isn't it?

The keeper being glued to the line is shit. 6 yards off the line then yeah, but use a bit of common sense.

Normal service resumes on the first day of the season. Already regretting not scoring more yesterday 😀

VAR is absolutely bollocks

Irrespective of its use and benefit /cost in this match it's so fucking shit

Sterling being offside was fucking mental.

That's not VAR per se though is it. It's the damn stupid rule keeper/penalties change when it was not needed. Previously refs just used common sense.
