As I said, Spurs are their bogey team in terms of counter attacking and the few chances they created were big. But City had the most chances with 21-6 in shots, 10-0 in corners and the ball for 73% of the time.
Cancelo could have had a hattrick in the first half.

So a disallowed goal for offside is a chance when its against City, but not against or for us?

Man City had tons of shots but a) most of their shots were blocked b) their two goals came from Spurs errors.
Granted, Lloris pulled off a wondersave too (and they hit the post early) but their chances were not "WOAH goalkeeper is getting peppered here and standing on his head" but "ok, tons of pressure but no real danger to Lloris' goal yet"
I don't think the result is misleading.

just watching MOTD highlights ..
kane should make it 3-1, and City break where Hojiberg smartly fouls KDB who gets up and pushes him.
Odd he'd get upset about a foul that is part and parcel of how Man City play defense ...

I am enjoying how Newcastle signed Wood for £20m, largely to weaken a relegation rival, and Burnley went and used that money to sign a superior footballer. MOTM and first scorer today for Burnley.

Could be signing of the season if Weghorst keeps them up. He's like a budget Kane, and that's a very big compliment.

But results wise, it seems to have worked out well for Newcastle too.
So the last word has not been said in this fight.

Tough choice between who I want to go down, but Newcastle who I had a soft spot for are now non-grata. With their Saudis they might even pip Burnley here, who are just filler team in the PL with no ambition either in terms of performance nor manner of playing the game, with an unlikable knobhead in charge.

It was a smash and grab in its loveliest form. Pulled off by Kane with probably his best match in 2 years and Son who is one of the leagues better players in timing runs and playing counter attacking football.

But to say City didnt have enough chances to win that game is just wrong.

But what was the xG??

Edit. Sky sports app had spurs with more on target and city having zero clear cut chances. I’d say a pen was clear cut though.

What chance stick out to you?
One hit the post.
One was great save by Lloris

What other shots on goal - bar the two gifts Spurs gave them - stick out? It's not like City 'gifted' goals to Spurs ...

Kane should have 3 or 4 by himself.

A draw would have been a harsh result for Spurs - they had far better chances.

Does it really matter? An unexpected Spurs win was perfect for us.

In closing I’ll just say that Spurs scored from 3 of 5 shots on target. Kane with 100% shooting accuracy yesterday. Effective and some fantastic counter attacking.

They’re still shite though, and will probably lose to Burnley next.

I read somewhere it was 2.3 v 2, bear in mind city’s XG is padded out by the penalty. But I think XG stat is at times meaningless if used as the only stat to judge a match. Looked like Spurs had the best clear chances, scored 3, another clear one on one missed, with a close disallowed goal. For all of City’s possesion dominance, Spurs were far more threatening.

Yeah, according to the Villa fans they’ve been horrendous in the last few games.
Will be more interesting to see next season when he’s been in charge for a while and has had a pre season with the squad.

With City it was mental to see them crossing balls into the box every ninety seconds for the entire match when their strikers are all midgets and didn't win a single header.
Conte let them have the wide areas trusting to exactly this phenomenon.

Shots and possession don't necessarily equate to the better chances. City are going to have more of each in every game they play. Spurs let them have the ball, that was the plan. I don't recall Cancelo squandering a good chance, nevermind 3.

I don't recall ever saying a disallowed goal is or isn't a chance against us? It depends how marginal it is. And Spurs was a matter of inches. City could very easily have conceded 5. But City didn't create 5 opportunities as clear cut as Spurs did. Spurs deserved the win.

The City, Spurs result doesn't highlight any new weakness in City team, and I don't expect others to be able to exploit them on the back of it.

Spurs tactics worked because they have 2 world class players in Son and Kane, who have combined for more goals than any partnership in PL history. This combo enables Spurs to stick to a 4-5-1 and back themselves to score when needed. Who else can really offer that?

Conte did nothing special, Spurs just have a brilliant forward line who thrive in space and can score from limited chances. Even with ten men behind the ball for most of the game, Spurs still needed 3 goals to win. Very few sides will be able create 3 decent chances, let alone goals against this City side.

In short it's a decent result for us, and hopefully some teams will be a bit more ambitious on the counter, but most lack the pace and quality to really stand a chance.

West Ham have enough quality to get a draw. I have a glimmer of hope that Watford on a good day could bag a couple on the counter, but they will likely have been stifled by Hodgson by that point. Newcastle, Leeds, Villa and Everton will get battered.

The match at the Etihad will be huge.

Joint top as FYI

More importantly Kane was putting on "Torres vs Chelsea" type performance

Lukaku had the fewest touches of a player in 90 minutes since Opta started collecting stats. 7 touches of the ball in 90 minutes. He's shite. Who was it that was spewing their load over him in the summer?

You obviously recall what you want to recall. Cancelo was even clean through at one point were Lloris saved with his legs from about 5-6 yards. "Shots" were Gundogan hit the post and Lloris saved from Gundogans effort in the top corner among others.
5 clear cut chances? From the game I remember Ederson saving from Kane and then the 3 shots that hit the net.
Oh, and your marginal offside that for some reason is a chance given its close. An offside isn't an offside it seems.
So, in other words, one clear cut chance beside the goals.

I dont think Spurs deserved the win and I dont think they even played that well. As Squiggles said they won because they have a World class duo in Son and Kane. Apart from that they couldnt keep the ball for large periods of the game, defended extremely low and narrow and just absorbed pressure which on another day could have resulted in 2-3 more goals conceded.

Most importantly though City lost and thats lovely for us. The title race could be wide open if we beat Leeds. Thats what really matters.

To be fair, some of that comes to how Chelsea play which doesn’t help Lukaku’s game which is limited.
Chelsea is scrap yard for so many in form strikers. Just how many made it in the last 20yrs? Drogba and Jimmy Ffloyd Hasselbank?
So many big money failures.

Chelsea have actually got the best replacement already in Broja. But they will probably sell him as well.

"city deserved more" isn't as strange as dying on the "someone lied to us about fekir's medical/transfer", but you are getting there.
