If we could have one of our past players at his peak back for our run-in who would you choose? For me, a dominating and hard-tackling central midfielder. Maybe Steve McMahon 1988-9 vintage, but more likely Graeme Souness of the early 80s. Possibly just shaving a few years off Stevie might be the best option. Always the heightened risk of a sending off though!

Hansen. Best centre half we ever had, and as a bonus it would get the repetitive bore off MoTD.

Not a super star by any means...but I think Arbeloa would add to the squad immensely.

He was very good at RB or LB, very solid defensively and combined beautifully to provide width down the flanks.

Arbeloa. Yes, I liked him, and still wonder at why we let Madrid have him so cheaply. Not as strange a choice as at first glance.

I'd normally go for Kenny or Barnes, but right now, for this run in, I think we need a defensive leader,

Hansen is tempting but I would choose Sami.

I wanna say Fowler just cos he was boss and my favourite player. But right now I'd say Hammann. I can't pick a player i've not seen before so i'll go with him

Rationale - player who's going to make a difference. Our weakness = centre midfield/defence, so while Kenny might be our best player, he'd take Sturridge/Suarez spot, so less of a net gain. Barnes would play in the position Suarez is now. Try and fit them all in and we're doing a David Motes.
Its why I'd go for Souness. I understand Hansen too, and while I would never have thought of Arbeloa, Steve Nicol might have been a better call, as we don't really have a left back.

Kenny could easily take Coutinho's position, and be effective from the first minute rather than the thirtieth. That would be quite helpful, would it not?

(This is such a whacky Sunday thread. More meat paste, vicar?)

John Barnes..

No one else..

Just him..
