Robbie Keane.
Ok ok that's a bit harsh on the lad and admittedly, it's a narrow viewpoint. There are many other reasons, both obvious and hypothetical on how we lost the title.
But if Keane did turn out to be 'da bomb' we would have scored the goals when it mattered especially against those crap teams that came to Anfield. He'd also have earned the trust from Rafa to constantly play him and not put the likes of Ngog and Kuyt up front. He'd also formed the 'lethal' partnership we had hoped for with Torres. The 'ifs' and the 'maybes' could go on forever but....
Allow me to break it down for you all to analyze properly.
Started against Aston Villa (away) - failed to score, subbed 79 min (Benayoun)
Started against Stoke (home) - failed to score, subbed 73 min (Benayoun)
Started against Tottenham (away) - failed to score, subbed 66 min (Babel)
Started against Fulham (home) - failed to score, played full 90.
Started against West Ham (home) - failed to score, subbed 66 min (Ngog)
Started against Everton (home) - failed to score, subbed 67 min (Benayoun)
All the above games finished with a draw and a loss against Spurs.
Out of the games listed above, you'd be forgiven for assuming that 3 points were a dead cert even before kick-off, especially against teams like Stoke, Fulham and West Ham. That's 9 points. We'd have won the title by the proverbial country mile (we only needed a win and a draw out of them 3 games) if we had scored just a goal against each of those teams, which obviously would have been sufficient in getting 3 points each.
Goes to show the fine line of success and failure but with Keane leading our frontline, it was a friggin line as wide as a hippo's arse and he can't even hit it with a bloody banjo...
