My predictions this week were that we'd lose today, beat United next week and finish in the top 2 and I still believe it - we still have every chance of winning the league.

Can we get the fourth spot? :-[

I really worry about it. Maybe it's time for Rafa to go.
oh fuck off.
Why I need to fuck off?
because I ask Rafa to leave?
stupid cunt.

To be fair Bunst if we dont beat the Mancs next week i'll be taking down the fucking bunting myself.
Weird as it may seem, that game is our ace up the sleeve.
We win that its 4pts to the Mancs and all the confidence and inspiration that should bring.
We're also close to having a fully fit squad and i still believe our best 11 is going to be gangster.
It is a shite start, and we really didnt need this today at all (i didnt expect it either) but it IS a marathon not a sprint.
We MUST beat the mancs tho. 10pts now and its over.

I believe we can beat United. I believe we can finish in the top 4 (though it won't be easy). What I don't believe is that we can make up six points on United, Chelsea, Arsenal AND City, all of whom have better squad depth than us and none of whom have shown the same kind of glaring weaknesses. I just think it's asking too much.

Mein Herr, I remain on the list. I also propose a recount of the believers and anyone who is off the list before next weekend stays off.

No chance, Lance. Though, I was never on the list and am just venting.

I'm astonished at the pessimism.

Really? I know we had a good season last season but let's face it, our recent history would suggest we'll struggle to win the title, especially when we've already lost more this season than for the whole of last.
Hold on mate. Chelsea have conceded in every game this year nearly and lost 2 of their last 3.
United have lost to Burnley and dropped points to Sunderland, and lets be honest are on a wing and a fucking prayer when it comes to luck.
Arsenal have lost half of their away games.
Im not having this its just us thing.
We've lost 4, and thats a fucking awful start and yet here we are in a situation where a win next weekend and we close the gap to the leaders to 4 points. How is that unacheivable? How can we be out of it?
How can we 'not' win. Its going to be a cunt to do it, but we still can do it.
Rafa needs to look at himself today though. Shit team and too late to change it.
Anyway. Yeah it sucks and next week is make or break.

For once, I agree with Rafa's saying of 'focus on next game'. We're under performing so much now that I don't see how we can realistically look beyond the next few games - EPL, CL, Carling Cup.

I'll be more than delighted if we start picking up victories and going on a positive streak.

Actually Manchester City are looking a very strong candidate for the title.

As long as Utd don't win it I'm really not arsed who does.

Yes, and they have the added advantage of not having European competition distraction.

I still believe we'll win the league this Season.

There I said it. It felt good.

Obviously it's mathematically possible, and if we were to win all our remaining games against our main rivals, then we'd have a good chance. But the fact that we're already relying on such a scenario after nine matches does not give me much hope for the season. Nor do Gerrard and Torres's recurring injury problems, Aquilani's long-term injury record, or our still-malfunctioning defence.

In retrospect, Xabi and Sami were two huge losses - and so far we can't really be said to have adequately replaced either of them.

It is WAY too son for all the negative vibes lads.
Plenty of games to go and it is looking like the 'Big Four' will be held or beaten a lot more this year.
It might not be pretty but we CAN still win it. Of course we can.

Anyone calling for Rafa to go is a fucking mong.
That would be a HUGE backward step for the club in every aspect.

Only because it'd cost so much to get rid of him

If we had decent owners who I trusted in finding the 'right' replacement, I wouldn't be against replacing him if we struggled to make the top 4 and finished trophyless.

Shut the fuck up.

It is perfectly reasonable to question the manager after 3 trophy-less seasons, and well on the way to another one.

When you looked at the teamsheet today, you didn't anticipate dropping points?

When I saw the team today I sw a team I really believe is worse than when Rafa took over nearly 6 seasons ago.

That says it all for me. To many "not good enough" players.

On the flip side it is hard to win when your three best players are not in the team.

We must win next weekend to keep our season from falling apart before November.

It's a team that's better than the equivalently injury damaged team of 6 seasons ago (3 best CBs out, best striker out)

That said, it's not good enough, the other teams are better now, and when we didn't buy in the summer, it was unlikely to ever work out.

you build a squad, it peaks to become the best it can, it goes through a transition and you build another one and so on, each time building around your best players at the time. during this time it helps if you win trophies so that the fans don't lose patience during the transition stage. wenger and fergie are the best examples of this.

rafa has done this twice so far. first he managed istanbul by adding to houllier's squad and more recently managed to build a squad that peaked last summer but failed to win trophies. he is now in the 3rd rebuilding phase in his time with us.

he can build a team around our existing crop of best players - reina, johnson, maybe one of skertel or agger, gerrard, yossi and torres.

i know he loves dirk but he is average, masch will be gone in the summer and the rest aren't good enough to be part of the core of a team to build around or are approaching an age where they will decline like carra.

i've not included aquaman as we really don't know what he's going to produce.

so we have 6 players to build around, the questions in my mind are is rafa good enough and will he be given a chance to even try?

as for winning the title this season, well how about we first start by beating someone that is likely to finish in the top 10.

You don't really need more than 8 core players though do you? Just look at Man utd's success over recent years, it's always included some squad fillers who do a good enough job of supporting the key core players. If we've got 6 already (arguably more), we're not that far away as evidenced by last years 2nd place.

The question is, are our squad fillers good enough to do the Fletcher/Evans/Park roles?

As for winning the title, there's no comeback (yet) from your last remark.
