You're not a massive fan of the FA cup then, I take it?

😀 Good one Bernd and ein glückliches neues Jahr to you and yours.

My two pennies' worth: domestic Cup competitions have their place, but as testing grounds for fringe players and up-and-coming youth teamers. They're all but meaningless otherwise, IMHO of course, and any club which wants to establish itself (or re-establish itself, in our case) consistently at the very top has to heavily prioritise the league and the CL as Doc indicates. That's where dynasties are built.

What warrants a 10/10 - is it similar to the definition of "world class"? If so, there is a mighty fine and intellectually honest debate to have.

Then we can move on to that angels and head of a pin conversation

Not sure, what's the definition of "world class"?

If we'd had the champions league group stage performance we had last year in conjuction with the league performance of this year, we'd be pretty close to a ten.

I don't think we should take any of our away performances seriously in the group stages; against Napoli I don't think anyone recognised our team - not even themselves it was so bad. Against Red Star -well we were trying to play within ourselves. Finally PSG away - was always going to be tricky but 2nd half performance was when we looked like our normal. Generally I would say that Klopp only wanted to get what was needed in those away performances without the players going at it 100% - that in itself was quite different for our players and probably why they looked a bit out of sorts in those away games. I think in the knock-out stages it will be totally different - we will see a different Liverpool.

Actually so it seems for some 10/10 requires perfect performance winning every game in front of us. I'd love to be your manager doing your appraisals.

There has to be some reconciliation with where we ended last season and our performance last season and also what we are up against. We had two very obvious weakness last year

1. inability to perform in league consistently while maintaining a cup run.
2. We had a hapless defense on the first half of last season and our defense was largely to blame for our CL final loss.

I think both points have been addressed quite well by the manager.

1. We have one of the best defensive records of all time at this stage of the season...i'd say that's clearly a turnaround.
2. The squad additions have been near enough flawless and the depth of the squad shows in our ability to win league games after every CL games this season.

If it's a mod term score card, you can't score him down saying we could potentially slip up in the second half...that can be reconciled during the second half.

So far....flawless. 10/10.

Just picking up on one more point here, I’m my own manager and I do my own appraisals so fuck you.

The rest of you can fuck off.

This - and the Alisson rating thread- remind me of primary school. First term marks always artificially low to "give you something to work toward". I just fucking aced everything you threw at me. Only a A? Fucking bullshit.

1 - shit

3 - poor
4 - not good
5 - average
6 - just above average

Knocked out of the Carling Cup 1st time of asking.
3 defeats in 3 aways in Europe.

In the league it would be a 9.
Overall an 8

10 will be end of year when we win something.
Glass half empty it seems..

10 at least for his mid term performance...

Top. 6 points clear

Last 16 Champions League

I think it's been perfect in terms of the manager's performance TBH. You can't win every game, no one can – but even the away losses in the CL were part of the process of reorienting the team towards a more controlled style. We've been lucky that none of these inevitable hiccups that come with changing the style and formation came in the league, so we played a historically magnificent half of the season in the league, 16 wins and 3 draws, while experimenting in the CL where we qualified anyway. I can't think of a better scenario; Klopp has played a blinder so far.

When Benitez had his great season, we had sort of resigned ourselves to being a defensive team that was devoid of attacking intent, and it worked thanks to thanks to individual talent and form of our attackers. That was lucky in a way. When Rodgers had his great season, the opposite was true where we'd resigned ourselves to having a great attack, and a fucking comedy defence. But that year we again managed to ride our luck at the back. So for all that time it seemed like a trade off, you can't have lots of one without giving up the other. Make your choice and then pray your luck holds up at the other end. Klopp this year has totally fucked that off, and has built a team with a great attack and a great defence. No trade off. No compromise. No riding our luck. The schizophrenic fucker has achieved something I always believed was impossible. [bcolor=transparent]Definitely 10/10.[/bcolor]

It's true. I haven't trusted both sides of our team since Hansen hung up his boots.

You can probably dock a half point for being out of the cup and a half point for not finishing top in the CL, full points for the league so far. So 9/10.

Maybe a little harsh considering he'd probably get full marks in the league for a slightly lesser performance.

I didn't want to pick on your average logic...6.33 pft. I don't care if you are your own boss, but if you say something stupid in a forum you will get ridiculed.

Klopps a 10.

We want the league. He's league form is superior to any other form in our clubs history and Premier League history. It's remarkable.

There's been some niggles such as the away European form, but fuck it - he's delivering what the fans want. As Jules always says, the leagues our bread and butter - the cups are a welcome bonus.

Wait, are you saying our start is the best ever in the premier league? Didn't know that.

It's not, I think City were 18 wins and 1 draw at this point last year. We do have the joint-best defensive record with Mourinho's first Chelsea team and it's the best Liverpool half-season in EPL era.

I think he meant OUR best ever, though maybe it is I that has misconstrued his comment. I believe it's OUR best ever in the league (fuck the 'PL era' as if that means something) or at least post 1900.

Bullshit, one of the biggest myths going around this season is that we don't play great attacking football anymore, it's complete rubbish, we are still an absolute joy to watch, neturals are just salty we aren't completely incompetent at defending these days.

Go and read Rurik’s latest post with Klopps quotes.

He himself says we aren’t attacking as well
As last season.
