Ole at the wheel

I find it comforting that Utd’s best season in ages equates to winning nothing, failing in 2 European Competitions in the same season and finished a few points ahead of us in the League.

Meanwhile we’ve had a shitfest of a season.

Let’s be honest - the last 6 games is more like a return to normality for sun- not necessarily playing great - but winning.

If it weren’t for that disastrous middle third of the season - we’d have been pushing City all the way - and Utd would have been shitting themselves about Chelsea & Leicester.

Now - no-one in their right mind would suggest we have been anywhere near our best this season - and there were fundamental mistakes made that contributed to that disastrous mid season run.

It’s no surprise that we performed better with actual centre backs playing at centre back and our best midfielders playing in midfield - I hope Jurgen learns to trust some of his fringe players more.

I’d even suggest that Shaq, Keita & Ox should be given more of a run- if only they could stay fit - there’s fuck all point of dropping then in to a starting position for one game (or less in some cases) then hooking them if they aren’t MotM.

If you don’t trust them to perform over time or they can’t stay fit - then find a way to replace them with someone that can.

Infinitely?

Football is about winning trophies. We had nothing to play for after real put us out in an absolute feeble 2 legs. We didn’t perform in Europe. Again, we could or should’ve walked it. But we didn’t.

They were close to winning a trophy. And that’s what the sport is about.

Football is about winning trophies and, despite your praise for them, ManUre didn't, simple as. "Close to" doesn't count. And sorry, but "we could or should've walked it" is a load of hooey given our injuries.

Yay. When is the parade?

We won fuck all. Lucked our way to third. They finished 2nd and got to a European final.

A European final they were in because they couldn't get out of an average Champions League group.....and they lost.

We didn't luck our way to 3rd. We took 26 points from the last 10 games and hauled back a massive points deficit to Leicester, while missing all of our senior centre backs and our captain.

But they didn't win it, so they've ended up as close to a trophy as we are.

I am not praising them. I’m pointing out they did better than us this season. Ole at the wheel is a daft fucking thing. We want them to win to keep him at the wheel is daft.

It isn’t all hooey about us walking it. We had chances to score against Madrid and didn’t. Pretty much like all the games we didn’t win this season. That’s the story of our season.

I think many here forgot they had entered into the Europa League because they finished 3rd in their CL group.
That, after leading the group going into the 5th round of ties. For them it is the loser's cup, and they didn't even win it.
And that europa league had probably the worst quality of teams in the last 10 years. AC Milan were their only real challenger and they aren't great
The carabo Cup was a harder trophy to win even with teams playing 2nd 11s

No it’s not. We qualified for it by the rules of the competition. As did they.

Ultimately, they scored more points, had a final, knocked us out of the fa cup and got further in the league cup.
Jesus and people say I’m a Utd fan.
They won nothing, never remotely challenged for the league, got knocked out the CL in the group stage, then managed to lose an unlosible final, didn’t win either domestic cup and are celebrating like they’ve turned some corner(remind you of anyone in the 90’s)
We also won nothing but were top at Xmas, got to the CL Q/F and had to deal with the worst defensive injury crisis arguably ever playing 18 different cb combinations before Feb and went on a remarkable run to qualify for the CL when it mattered most and still we all count it as a major disappointment.

The longer Ole is at the wheel the longer before they strike gold with a Pep or a Klopp and get them back seriously challenging or winning the big trophies so yes 100% keep that clown in the seat.

If we’d finished 5th or 6th we could’ve really have complained. Leicester and West Ham having an absolute shambles of a last 6 games let us in.
We finished 3rd because we deserved to finish 3rd. We won 8 drew 2 of our last 10 games.
We had a shambles of period around Xmas and after that let West ham and Leicester in but we were able to handle the business end of the season when the pressure is on and they couldnt

This crap about manure about nearly winning a European trophy. Seriously, they were terrible, villarreal were the more likely to win it in extra time.
Utd like City were arrogant and going by their fans, just felt they had to turn up to win like it was their destiny. Both Manchester clubs lost because of poor tactics on behalf of their managers

Yes, keep Woodward there making decisions too as their owners sure as fuck see it a successful season. Some good posts.

They’ve won more games than us over the last year. Finished higher than us. Got further in all competitions bar one. They were unbeaten in the league away from home and grinding out results somehow.

You absolutely love it when they win. You hide behind ole at the wheel. Whereas most people want them to lose every game.

In a perfect world, we should be doing than them. But we don’t live in a perfect world.

You have the long term vision of a 10 year old.
They will never be the powerhouse they were for my entire childhood with Ole in charge. They have had what now 5 managers since Ferguson fail? They’ll get it right eventually so the longer this fool is in the charge the longer it will take. This season will be forgotten in a heartbeat by both sets of fans as a year neither won anything. Nothing else.

You're both kinda right. They had the better season, but we were unlucky because 75% of our first team died.

Not getting out of a weak CL group is shambolic and a huge mark against their season as a whole.

We had the better season for me.

And you’re a fool not to see what winning to keep ole at the wheel has done. Had they finished 7th cavani wouldn’t have signed up, kane wouldn’t be a target, other targets would be beyond reach. Which could cause them to fall further back. Now they may get lucky and sign their Fabinho and van Dijk. But no. They’re in the champions league and with it opens up the potential for them to address that lob sided squad.

Even if he’s sacked who would come in? Nobody of the class of Klopp.

On paper, we finished below them. Neither of us won the CL. They had the better season looking at it like that. But given the circumstances, I think we can be okay with 3rd and not getting humiliated in the Europa League final

Their squad is a million miles away from winning a league or CL. They aren’t attracting shit. Kane won’t go there as he wants to win stuff and Utd haven’t won anything in four years.

How many years had it been when we signed Salah, Mané, van Dijk, Fabinho or Alisson.

We finished one place below them with a half a squad. Compare that with a CL q/f vs finishing 3rd in a piss easy group and it’s clear we had the better season in the big competitions. They couldn’t even blur that line by winning the loser cup.
The cherry on top was our dismantling of them in their own back yard with everything on the line blasting 4 past them.
For me it’s clear we had the better season as a whole and it’s clear as day who’s in better shape heading into next season.
Keep Ole there please.

None of success was possible until we got Klopp. We’ve had great squads on paper before and couldn’t get it done. It’s all about the manager and Ole will never led them back. Simple as that. As long as he’s there, they won’t win either the league or CL. It’s as simple as that. Nothing else matters.

Being in the champions league was the reason we were able to sign that calibre of player. He’s got them in to the champions league. It isn’t simple as you make out. If they get the right 3 players then they are right in the mix.

I don't give a shit about reaching the quarters of the CL. You can only start really including it when you win it, or you're some minnow that overperformed to reach the latter stages.

They finished comfortably above us. But yeah that's only because we were playing our under 18s D team half the time.

As I said, you can look at it both ways. They had the better season on paper. That's undeniable. But then I would've taken our season given our circumstances and the embarrassment theirs ended in. At least we have an excuse. They're just shit and failed to capitalise.

Unless one of them is Klopp or equivalent then no no they are not. And none of our players you listed would I signed for another manager. They signed for Klopp

We did better than them in Europe. Maybe I would think differently if they had won the Europa League... how much did Villareal's squad compared to United's?

They wouldn’t have signed for a Europa league Klopp.

Don’t forget Ranieri has won this league. He might stumble across something that works and win it.

I’m not saying I am claiming it as some sort of achievement but compared to not getting out of the groups much more impressive than 1 league position in the table.
