Ole at the wheel

They wouldn’t have signed for a Europa league Klopp.

Don’t forget Ranieri has won this league. He might stumble across something that works and win it.
That set of circumstances will never be repeated. Too many big teams now. No way City, Chelsea and ourselves have that bad a season that Utd can stumble to a title.

Come one dreamy. Those teams were big back then. Fuck knows what will happen this summer, a euro hangover, lucky signing and so on.

That year most teams were in transition. Spurs should have won it and fucked it. Lowest points winners in years.

Chelsea, City and ourselves will be super strong next year.

Okay I concede. I hope they win 72 games next season to keep him at the whee.

You know flippin' well that's not what anybody is saying... You're being silly here.

You continue to say that we were 'lucky' to come third this season, that they did better than we did... It's not that simple.

Firstly, you could use many adjectives to describe our season... 'Lucky' is not one of them. We were raped by injury AND crucified by VAR decisions that defied the rules and inept officiating. We were, without question, the most UNlucky team in the league, and somehow, we still managed to finish ahead of all but two teams.

Secondly, you say that Leicester and Chelsea stumbling is why we grabbed third... It's not - We won 8 of our last 10 to grab 3rd. That's not luck. The league is decided over 38 games, not the last 5 or 6. When during the season teams stumble doesn't matter... They stumble or they don't.

Then you claim that their 'nearly' winning a trophy means they were better than us... I see your logic, but if their very involvement in that competition is due purely to their failure in the real European competition that they started the season competing in, then is it really? For Leicester, winning the Europa League next season will be a success - They'll start the season in it. But for us, or any of the other clubs who start the year in the European Cup, it IS a failure. It just is.

Also, you know as well as I do that very few scum supporters are happy with last season... They were NEVER in contention to win the league, they didn't win the European Consolation prize and they only finished 5 ahead of a Liverpool team that spent most of the season on their knees, even losing to them - badly - at home to wrap up the season.

Ole's done ok. He's done well by the standards of many clubs. He's done shite by the standard that club sets for itself... He's not going to take them down, but he's also not going to do anything spectacular with them... And, though the club name alone still carries some sway, I'd argue that Ole is their Souness - A club legend that they all want to succeed, but know deep down that he won't, really. And when the likes of Kane or Mbappe, or whomever compare clubs that want them, there's simply no way that Ole would be as big a draw to play for as Jurgen or Pep or now even Tuschel... If all things are equal, top players will no longer see old trafford as a top destination.

Yes, they did "better" when you look at the league positions. But when you consider the circumstances that lead to those positions, it's hardly an achievement for them to celebrate... That's why they're not celebrating.

I know which team I'd rather be a fan of to start next season.

I see what you are saying mate and I agree with most of it, apart from the Souness comparison.

The problem with Solskjaer (well, I say problem. It’s a problem for them, not for us) is that he doesn’t seem to have much of a vision or a drive to do much. Souness had the opposite problem. He wanted to do too much and do it too quickly.

I would imagine that Solskjaer will continue to manage Man United reasonably competently and will make the odd decent signing here and there but they do seem like that they drifting a bit. They still need someone who will actually rebuild properly, and I can’t see him doing that. Hopefully they never get that person and they will continue as they are for the foreseeable future.

That's all fair, horse, and your final paragraph sums up what I think most of us feel...

We ALL want them to lose every match and get relegated. But we ALL know that's not gonna happen. This mediocrity is about the best that we can hope for, and Ole is EXACTLY the man to oversee that happen. If he's fired, they may get Simeone or somebody else who could make them a force again - That's why I don't want Ole sacked. He needs to stay forever, 'coz this is their high standard with him 'at the wheel'.

Long may it last. 🙂

United had their best season of the last four or so years, in finishing second and making the (second rate) European final. It was a good season for them, especially considering how their last decade has gone.

I'd 100% rather they didn't have any good seasons, and that they went through a continual cycle of firing managers. Will they get it right eventually? Dunno, maybe, it took us a long time, but generally having short term managers leads to a lack of a long term vision, which is only solved by shit loads of cash. It's also been over 30 years since they made the right choice of manager, so I'm not too worried about it happening anytime soon.

Ole to lose every game please.
