Ok, this is getting a bit ridiculous now in regards to Aquilani

Taken from Richard Jolly on soccernet.

"The banners at Anfield can be evidence of adulation, proof of wishful thinking or something altogether more prosaic. Long before he had appeared, one such acclaimed Alberto Aquilani as "Il Principino". More than a month after his debut, "the little prince" has appeared in a mere 23 minutes of football."

I know this has been discussed in quite a bit of detail but 23 minutes since his debut? Fuck me. What is going on? Has Rafa even mentioned anything about this yet? Our most expensive midfielder ever and he can't get in front of Lucas. Is there something else happening that we don't know about?

He'll start on the bench next game for sure, because it makes absolute no sense to start him after having played only 23 minutes since his debut.

He's supposed to get match fit through spells off the bench, and he's hardly featuring in that manner - so I fail to see how he can possibly start the next match.

2 mins against Debrencen was a complete joke.

More like 30 seconds.

I am also clueless as to how why this is being handled the way it is but I HOPE there's a good reason because this seems like something that could be keane'esque.

I thoguht Rafa addressed this in his last press conference. Whether you agree with it or not his logic is that he needs to be eased in to the Premier League, but rafa doesnt want to take the risk when we are protecting a lead or draw and will only bring him on if we need to chase a match or are comfortably winning it. Given that there was no way he was goign to come on in the Debrecen or Everton matches

People have a right to be pissed off with this and at the very least question why he isn't getting any games.

Yes Stu, but apparently we are stupid and should not be expressing our views here. I share your views, but I am prepared to have my opinion changed by those who ridicule it, if they will give me a logical explanation of why he has played only 23 minutes, when the main reason for him not playing appears to be that he lacks match fitness. Every match that passes without him playing leaves him further away from match fitness. And Im not buying this thing about being unable to bring him on if we are defending a lead. If he is on the bench he should be capable of starting a match.

Incidentally I am a Rafa fan, but this situation I cannot agree with.

That's bullshit Stu. You have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, and neither do you have any right to know.

Sure, question why, but to be pissed off and to slate Rafa (as you did last week), from a position of ignorance, is bollocks.

The question will be asked for every game that aquaman does not play from now on

Of course none of us know, but I think it is a reasonable to make the assumption that if he is on the bench that he is fit to play some part in a match.

It is really weird, especially as Gerrard is playing ahead of him despite being clearly unfit. My guess is he'll start the Fiorentina match, as there's nothing riding on it. If he doesn't start that game, I think we'll have to conclude that there's something seriously wrong - either with Aquilani's body or with Benitez's brain.

We've just beaten Everton, FFS. I know that may not mean much to those who are banging away on their keyboards from around the globe, but I thought it would let up the moaning at least.

Ah well.

He didn't cost 23M. At least make the effort to do the maths with the real sum... that's just lazy.

1) The fee was 18 mill

2) The lad has been injured for ever due to poor advice from the doctors/Pysios at Roma
Therefor he really needs to get his fitness levels up, train hard and build up his confidence again.

He might start against Blackburn, and it's a shame there wasn't a reserve match last week.

Are people from around the globe not entitled to voice an opinion without having it snidely ridiculed by you?

All we are doing is seeking a reasonable explanation. As I said above I am quite prepared to have my opinion changed if you, or anyone else, have a credible explanation of the situation

Have you seen the games he could have featured in? When should he have been thrown on against Citeh i.e.? Get a fucking grip!

It actually does mean quite a bit to those who are banging away on their keyboards from around the world, Squiggs.

Doesnt make the Aquilani transfer any less frustrating.

a player who has a history of injuries shouldn't be rushed back. that's not rocket science, that just common sense.

Quite.

Surely noone thinks he should of been used in a derby at Goodison unless in an emergency. Surely he will get some time against Blackburn (20-30min) and probably get a start against Fiorentina.
