Let's cut the shit - The press could pick the starting 11. All the England manager needs to be able to do, is motivate the team, make some astute substitutions and generally show some level of footballing acumen - you don't have to be a master tactician or whatever.

All that said, we fucking smashed better teams in qualifying and I'm convinced we'll progress, this group of players can't be that bad again - Slovenia are there for the taking ( yeah yeah, so are we etc etc)

As I said post the US match, sack off Heskey - Defoe in his place, Joe cole to start too, please.

Unfortunately for yous the press arent picking the team. The problem with Capello, and other managers of his ilk, is that he worries too much about the opposition.

I said it at the time and I'll say it again, the fa were fucking idiots to give crapello a new contract.
I dont think the new contract was an extension though, i think it was to remove a clause in his original contract that would have allowed him to walk after the world cup.

Who would you have spider?

I'd bring terry venables back, the only time I've ever seen england play in a competent manner.

And the worst winning record they've ever had?
England (1994–1996)
By November 1993, the England national football team was at low point, having failed to qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup under previous manager Graham Taylor. Venables, though not active in the game, seemed to have the presence and charisma that could re-ignite some patriotic pride and achievement. He was appointed manager on 28 January 1994.

However, the speculation coincided with Venables coming under scrutiny and censure in connection with several of his business dealings. The Football Association struggled to identify an alternative candidate but their discomfort with his soiled reputation for probity was articulated in their appointment of him as England 'coach' rather than under the traditional title of 'manager'. However, Venables decided in January 1996 that he was going to leave the England job after the European Championships that summer, as he wanted to concentrate on clearing his name in connection with off-the-field business dealings.

As hosts, England did not need to qualify for the UEFA Euro 1996. There were plenty of highs and lows during the finals, where England won three of their five games (including one on penalties). The highest point came with the 4–1 defeat of the Netherlands in the final group game. Venables suffered penalty shoot-out heartache again in the semi-finals, losing to Germany. During his 23 match tenure as England manager, the team only lost once.

I'd bring Graham Taylor back. Or give it to Barry Fry.
At least Turnip had a decent call when blaming the ref.... Thats more than Capello has.

capello is fucking wank, he watches the england players week in week for their respective teams out and throws of that out the window when he gets hold of them for england. oh, and leaving adam johnson behind was fucking IDIOCY.

Spider, what a shit call. U worry about bringing King Kenny back - but would bring back Venaballz who's been out of the game since.....

living in the past, I agree but its better than living in the present where I have to watch the shite we are currently dishing out.

Out> lampard, heskey
In> defoe, J cole

Sorted.
Sorted.....???? Seriously?

-----------------------James--------------------------

Johnson-------Dawson---Terry-----------Cole

----------------Lampard---Barry-----------------

Lennon------------Gerrard-------------J.Cole

----------------------Rooney-------------------

Should have been this formation from day 1
Wide Midfield
I'd have Milner to start on the right. Lennon and SWP are at best impact players, and they should be used as such. J.Cole should be given the role to play behind Rooney, and we should have also brought Adam Johnson to play on the left. But since this has not happened. I'd play Defoe or Crouch along with Rooney, depending on the options and play Joe Cole on the left.

CM
I would probably drop Lampard and keep him as first stand in for either midfield slots and also a tactical option from the bench. Barry/Gerrard should be the starting midfield pair.

Striker/CF
Heskey should be locked in the hotel room.

'Crapello'... Jesus Christ, he's probably the 'winningest' manager in modern football, behind Ferguson and Mourinho.

Blaming the manager is missing the point.

Blaming the manager is exactly the point! He picks the team and putting Heskey in the team ahead of Joe Cole doesn't add up because he has offered nothing!

Yeah, he got the best out of a side which was blessed with less talent than this one.

It's just a shame he was a religious nut-case and that David Beckham acted like a cunt.

Should have taken Idboneawhore to SA and not Heskey. England have absolutly zero pace in attack, and that is costing them dearly.

He will *obviously* drop Heskey for the next game, and will probably stick gerrard back in the middle and give Mongo Cole a game on the left

you have more faith in him to do the right thing than I do.

Rooney, Defoe and even Heskey when he can be bothered are all quick. The players' form is the problem.

They need pace through the middle on the shoulder of the last defender though. Heskey plays the second striker role, pulling wide and dropping deep to shield the ball. Rooney, despite playing uptop for United these days STILL has the tendency to drop deep looking for the ball. So in that sense Hansern is right, we do lack pace though the middle. There's plenty of pace on the right in Johnson and Lennon, but because Gerrard, Lampard, Heskey and Rooney like to work in roughly the same area of the pitch, it just becomes congested and openings are few and far between.

I'm not sure. If that was Liverpool yesterday, people would have been queueing up to slaughter him on here. So what's the difference? Forget what he's done, its about the here and now. He set the team up, he brought Barry in and shifted England's best player from the first game to the left hand side etc etc.

Sure the players didn't deliver, but that was the same for LFC last year and more often or not Rafa got the blame. Why shouldn't Capello pick up his fair share of the blame?

Rooney has played up front all season on his own in a 4-5-1
Gerrard and Lampard have played just behind a lone striker with a defensive midfielder behind them all season long, mostly in 4-5-1 formations.
Englands' 3 best players are all playing out of position so it is no surprise we are shit and not creating.

------------------------James----------------------------

Glenjo-------Terry----------------Dawson-----------Cole

-------------------------Barry-----------------------------

Lennon-----------------------------------------------Cole

---------------Gerrard-------------Lampard-----------------

--------------------------Rooney--------------------------

If we are playing against better teams, Lampard can drop a bit deeper to make it look more solid in CM. Simples.
