Oh Manchester is full of shit (H) Sunday

I would play Gini at the base and have Chamberlain beside Lallana. They're not a big side and we shouldn't miss Can's height. Can has looked lackadaisical and perhaps a bit tired in the past few games. I'd start him on the bench.
It'll have been over a week since our last game - no-one should be tired, they've all had a nice break in Dubai FFS !

I actually think missing coutinho may help us out here. Overload midfield with Gini, Can and Lallana with Firmino coming deeper and Salah and Mane on the constant overlap need to overrun kdb and bully silva

This game has goals in it, theyre backline is just as vulnerable as ours imo its just whether we can shut down KDB and Silva. In my head we have to score atleast one to cancel out the inevitable Aguero goal.
I actually like our backline more than theirs now !

All the more reason for Lovren to attempt to wrestle for that crown. Matip is a quiescent presence in the squad, and everyone always knew Klavan was there as cover. Lovren will be strutting around the place with heckles up and balls pulled up tighter than a drum.

Interesting in that tunnel cam how uncomfortable Lovren looks in VVD's presence.
He really did didn't he. He looked like a deposed Alpha in a dog pack.

The game will be won in midfield. If we could control their midfield we would win the game. For that I'll be going for Gini, Can and Lallana, full of running and all action.

Ming
Gomez Klavan VVD Robbo
Can Gini
Lallana
Mane Firmino Salah
Moving Klavan to play at RCB ? Where he never plays ? Asking for trouble. As Hansern said it has to be Matip - VvD again.

Lallana is nowhere near up to speed yet. I can see Klopp giving Ox the nod over lallana.
Yep. I don't think there can be any doubt that Can + Gini are 2 of the three and normally I'd go with Lallana but Oxlade is also a bit of an action man and has a better passing range for our breaks.

There have been quite a few games in which City haven't been at their best recently and yet somehow found a win.

My guess is that City will know they have to bring their A game against us so recent games may not be the best indicator.

Who plays with VVD? I genuinely don't know who I would pick. Can we sign another CB please?

We might need Lallana or Chamberlain to pick up the ball in deep lying positions to carry us forward. Coutinho was excellent at that.

We need another CB, obviously.

As for "ball-carrying" both Chamberlain and Lallana are indeed decent at that, but Coutnho was better, and was also - and this is quite important - more likely to score and create once the ball had actually got near the opposition goal.

Plus he could score free-kicks.

We've got VvD for that now though.

That goes without saying and we are going to find it hard to replace that. That's why I was in the 'force him to stay until he's replaced' camp.

I'm never in favour of selling our best players, and that goes back to Torres, Mascherano, Suarez, Sterling, Alonso et al.

Clearly Torres didn't work out too badly - not that we had any fucking clue - but the last 10 years has been quite sad, really. We've not had the team, manager or investment to keep even ONE of our very best players, and we've been weakened by every departure (bar Torres).

Just have to hope Ox can do what he has in the last couple of games and hits some decent dead balls.

Klavan would be my choice to partner VVD. Gomez and Robinson should probs start. We've always got a chance of dicking anyone with Salah and Mane in the side. I sorta fancy us to get a result but god knows.

The FBs have a really serious job looking after Sterling and Sane (among others who will pop up in their areas). We need Robertson to play with the quality he showed in the derby and Gomez to stay switched on for 90 minutes.

That isn't going to happen.

Nope, & that's a valid criticism considering his age.

He's gonna be a fucking remarkable CB if he continues in the vein, but there will be many fuck ups along the way. I spent many many hours standing on the Kop slagging off Carra at fullback.

Young defenders make mistakes. In an ideal world, they get loaned out to a side where they get that experience, or they play a few games then get replaced by their better peers, but neither of those options is available to us really.

Yeah, like you I was just hoping all last night that someone would snap them in half. And I was pissed off that KdB was better already after getting twatted the other day.

I do think we're the most likely team to give them a game in the league though.

They're going to lose eventually, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was against us. We're a very good team, score lots of goals and have plenty of pace.
Plus we're at Anfield and we owe them for that mauling a few months ago.

Yeah, Coutinho is a big miss, especially in the form he was in, but fuck it, we can beat those cunts, no worries.

Coutinho would have been injured for this game anyway. A shame, because he had quite the goal/assist record against City.

I think Lallana looks short of match sharpness, so I think we'll go with Ox, Gini and Can.

I am rather less concerned with Robertson as he has VvD and Wijnaldum to help him out (and they will and do), however Can has shown he does little to assist in covering the RB and Matip, whilst a good CB, also doesn't show a great propensity for covering. Maybe Oxlade and Salah will help out there. Great to have VvD organising the defence though.

Lovren usually performs very well in big games and was great against them last year.

It's the games where doesn't have to be switched on all the time where he makes mistakes.

I'd be picking him all day long for this game.

Are you on drugs..? The big games are the games he has cost is this season. Spurs, Everton to name but a few

VVD & Klavan should be the partnership moving forward..

Klavan has been excellent and has a great range of passes in his locker to, so can offer that little extra which would be useful against a team like city.

We've just paid 75m for a top class CB who has settled long-term on the left of the pairing. I'm not for shifting VVD to the right just to facilitate Klavan and wouldn't for one minute think Klavan at RCB is a good idea.

I also happen to think that Lovren might just improve from being relieved of the leader/talker role AND the shift to RCB.
