- Torres make a world of difference, obviously. A breath of fresh air to watch him after putting up with N'gog for a few months
- Gerrard seems hungry again. Can G&T take us to 4th on the run in?
- Mr. Glass shattered again today. Not surprised one bit. Pity, I prefer him to Insua at LB.
Three very pertinent points. and *nobody* could prefer Insewer to Aurelio at LB, and God knows I'm not Aurelio's biggest fan

I trust Fabio a hell of a lot more than I do Insua. Fabio inspires a bit of confidence on the left. His touch is easy on the eye too. Pity he is a walking car crash, wonder how long he will be injured this time?

Thank F*ck for the win after City's heroics at the Bridge.

With Gerrard and Torres fit for the rest of the season we can get fourth.

Sad that we have to replace an 18m RB with an 18m DM.

Also sad that after selling Riise our first choice left back is complete joke of a sick note.

We really are a nothing team without Torres and Gerrard.

Please God stay fit til June and then get rid of Rafa.

Repeatedly pressed on negative comments by Sam Allardyce before the game, Benitez replied: "We prefer to talk on the pitch.

"We can win on the pitch and enjoy. Some people have to talk before or after the press conference because it's more difficult for them to do a football job.

"I think he's a model for managers all around the world. I am sure his style of football, his behaviour - everything. It's the perfect model for all the kids.

"The style of football - I am sure Barcelona are thinking about copying the style."

He does do it quite well.

He's been far more confident with the media within the last 18 months or so.

Although maybe overly confident with the 'facts' business.

Remember the press conference after the second Champions' League semi against Chelsea ?

Maureen had a bee in his bonnet about them being denied a penalty because someone (can't remember who) handled in the box.

The supposed "hand-ball" was nowhere near the penalty area.

Anyway, Rafa was asked what he thought about Maureen's protestations.

His reply, (paraphrasing somewhat)

"If Jose says it's a penalty, it must be a penalty"

The second half of his reply loaded with the most sarcastic tone I've heard this century.

I wet myself.

Maybe so, but I do wonder. Since then Ferguson's been pulled up for his behaviour more often than he ever was before. Just today it's been reported that the Prem will order him to lift his embargo on talking to the BBC from next season. I may be wrong, but I couldn't see that happening before Rafa went for the old sod.

Maybe, but this is one a day when Phill Dowd was too scared to send Vidic off because of Ferguson's previous comments about him.

The FA will never curb Fergie getting his way, he's a master of it.

And with regards to 'Rafa's rant', the perception at the time was that Rafa had 'lost it', despite being icey cool. Whether this perception affected the players at all is open to debate, but looking back it seemed very unnecessary, IMO.

That's another question... regardless of the rights or wrongs of it, was our drop of form really down to Rafa's rant?

I'd be disappointed if it was.

Dunno, but the results directly afterwards do not make for pleasant reading.

Fat Sam bleating on about how "the crowd" at Anfield down the years have been very good at swaying decisions.

Ok, cunt head, three things:

1) I bet you never say anything like that to your 69 partner, Ginsoak.

2) Your lot are dirty cunts and you're lucky to have 11 still on the pitch at the end, you prick.

3) At least we've got a fucking crowd.

Stop crying because you were too shit to hold on to the Newcastle job and England doesn't want you, fat head, shit breath, tosser.

Only saw extended highlights, but a few things stood out:

- We seemed to play very deep across midfield. Whether that was borne out of a touch of fatigue from Thursday night's quagmire, Blacburn's pressing 5 man midfield, or wanting to leave Fernando witha touch of extra space, I dunno, but it invited Blackburn onto us - especially in the first half.

- Real shit ball-watching from the Blakburn midfield for Gerrard's first. Benayoun drew three players to him (fuck knows why) and Gerrard was left free on the edge of the box. I think it was N'Zonzi or Pedersen who let Gerrard go, either way - that's a perfect indictment of why they're in the bottom half of the table; ordinary players losing concentration.

- Impressed with Maxi. He's clearly a capable footballer. Not sure if you'd have him in your best 11, or in a title-chasing side, but for a free he's a good addition to the squad. His ability to find space, and use the ball effectively is very welcome.

- Didn't Vieira get a 3-game ban for thrusting his studs into Whelan recently? Consistency should see Chimbonda getting something similar.

What would united be if Rooney had been injured for the majority of the season? Any team would be a shadow of it's self without their two best players.

Just saying like.....

People say that Dave, but nobody relies as heavily on our key players as we do.

If Rooney gets injured United still have plenty of match winners in the side.

I think it's a fair criticism of our current regime.

His command of area is probably the one area he really could improve his game. Otherwise worldclass.
When he has defenders who are capable of getting their heads on the ball his command of the area is fine. I think Reina tried to come for things perhaps he shouldn't have today but he gets so little help from his defenders at times you can hardly blame him. I don't think it's a coincidence that his apparent eagerness to punch has followed some truly horrific defending of set pieces in recent games.

His punching has been horrible for the last four to five games and I'm a bit surprised it hasn't cost us.

Hopefully Spartan coming back will give him more confidence in the defence.

Aquilani in his (albeit limited) appearances this season is yet to play a pass anywhere near as good as that Lucas one today.
Lucas has played some 85 games for us. Someone pulled me up in the match thread when I said I think it's the best pass he's ever played for us by remarking that there'd been one other like it. It's really not much to shout about, is it?
