NFL - Offseason, Draft & 2017/18 Season

Enjoyed our game last night. A mastery of red zone defence.

Ben was still hit and miss and is going to need to improve a lot before we talk about playoffs. But the defence was so good at stopping the 6 points again and again. And JuJu is a fun kid. I like very much. I wish we could find a way to squeeze Bryant in to this side. His deep threat is something else.

That QB kid at the Texans.....

Bryant is as good as gone.. Pats very much interested, especially after Hogan has gone down.

Can't help feel we need a LB or DE more though.

Watching the Cowboys is like watching Liverpool.
Even when we win, and it should have been a blow out, I just think we're fucked ...
The good thing is the pass rush is solid (Tank, Irving, Collins & Crawford) and the defense is very young (so it should be good in 2-3 years).
The offense is still dominant (Coop finally playing like the player the Cardinals drafted), but things just seem 'off.'
Let's see how we do against KC

Supposedly, same offer Browns made last year.
Yeah I think Pats thoughts one of the teams esp (Browns or 49ers) would buckle and offer a 1st round. But its win win for Pats again at the min.

Kept JG as insurance in case Brady wasn't on form or injured for half a season.

Get a high 2nd round pick which they can now.

Use as a chip today for a trade
Trade back down in the draft for another low pick. BB has previous with this kind of trade
Or they could just use it in the draft as a high pick.

Am I right in that San Fran can only tag him once? Which if Brady shows signs of being ready to hang up his cleats 18 months, JG will have had game time at 49ers as a kind of loan deal and NE can welcome him back if that's the case.

I'm not sure if it's a great trade - they should have made it last summer and strengthened the team (defense!).
However, if anyone can make things work it's the Pats ... 🙂

Oh I 100% agree, we are the Liverpool of the NFL. Heavy on Offence, weak in Defence. And even the Offence is a bit fragile when it comes to health.

I'll be very underwhelmed if we get Hoyer back, I know its unlikely, but I'd love Kaep as back up. Imagine the hyperbowl around that story.

But yeah we are short of a LB or two, and a top DE. van Noy is getting better but still looks a yard short to me.

Cue flipping the pick to Steelers for Bryant. Ha ha ha. It'd be a very Liverpool move.

Belechick prefers second round picks to first round. He reckons he has the same chance of getting a good player in either spot but drafting in the second round means they pay a lot less to the player.

— A massive drop between Rounds 1 and 2

How many people believe there’s big difference between the 32nd and 33rd picks? Probably not too many, but the NFL rookie contract structure results in a 20.4 percent loss in contract value (about $1.8 million), the biggest among all draft picks.

The 33rd pick likely will get about half of his third-year salary guaranteed, compared to a full guarantee for pick No. 32. While some may argue the chance for true free agency after four years is a benefit for the 33rd pick, most teams are just as bullish on extending the 32nd pick if his play warrants it.

Usually he uses his extra picks as trading chips.

Jay Ajayi to Eagles for a 4th round pick. That is a stunning deal for the Eagles. They've got to be superbowl contenders now.

WHAT THE FUCK - why are the dolphins doing that? A 4th rounder? There goes any chance at catching them (2 games back)

Rumours aplenty that Gase and Ajayi had a massive falling out, with Ajayi taking a lions share of critisism for the blow out the other day.

Still, a 4th rounder seems a bit light to me.

Ajayi, Blout and Smallwood all vying for #1 spot.

Two big, nasty backs like Ajayi and Blount? WOW.
And with Zeke seemingly (I think) gone for 6 games, it's their division almost guaranteed ... unless Wentz goes down

That Zeke ban will hit us hard, but the Eagles will win the division regardless I guess.
If the Zeke ban is correct or not is another discussion.

Watson acl.

That sucks.
Bang goes my fantasy football hopes. Had Watson and Prescott, dropped the latter to make room for Jimmy G on the bench. Luckily my waiver priority will probably allow me to pick Prescott back up today.

Talking of Watson, I've been watching some tape of Trevor Lawrence. He broke Watson's high school TD record yesterday and has committed to Clemson (had offers from absolutely everyone. Could still shift to Bama or Georgia, but probably doesn't want to play SEC ball). Looks fucking ridiculous. Makes crazy throws already, especially on the move. Ball comes out of his hand like a missile. Looks a little bit good.

Great win for us over KC. Thought our defence was pretty good against both Hill and Hunt, except for that ridiculous 57 yard TD from Hill.

Mike Lombardi (former Browns GM) said that when Ajayi was in the draft there were serious concerns over his knee - hence why he dropped to the fifth round. Those concerns still exist, so there was no market for him.

Cowboys' D was fantastic yesterday against the Chiefs.
Stopped Hunt & co bar one big play (bonehead one too).
very impressed as I had this down as a loss.
5-3 and still waiting the Zeke update.

I didn't see Zeke play last season but i've seen his last two games.

I don't think you need to know anything about the sport to realise how good he is

Yeah it's nice when you're allowed to just play your suspended players.

He shouldn't be suspended ... The NFL is fighting this like mad because if he wins, it fucks up their ability to punish players who would never be convicted in a court of law of the crimes the NFL attributes to them. This isn't 'Ray Rice' like either - no videos, the girl changing her testimonies and admitting her goal was 'to ruin his career.'

Stories today are that his lawyers are willing to settle with the NFL for a shorter suspension ... The NFL denies this - and I think they'd be mad to accept it for obvious reasons.

Last two games he's basically got 150 + 95 yards without any run over 15 ... he's strong, hard to bring down and rarely takes a loss.
He's also as good at pass protection (which is rare for a back his age) & pass catching (which we rarely use him for oddly enough).

If he gets suspended, we should be able to go 3-3 tough - which would allow us to sneak into the playoffs with a healthy Zeke.

I'm assuming you mean the TD, I wouldnt say it was bonehead. I've always wondered why teams haven't done that before. Get a couple or tight ends and your biggest wide receivers/running backs. Create a running lane for your tricky receiver. It was a great play, you could argue the first defender should have made a better attempt at a tackle, but I'd give props to Hill for selling the dummy.

Another one I think they should do more is a throw to the 15-20 yard line one side. Attract all the defence to that side with a slow 5-10 yard run. Throw a lateral across the middle and have a tricky WR against probably one CB to the end zone.

Hail mary's don't usually work because teams are matching up tall WR against WR, Tight end against Tight end. More trickery is needed these days.

It was a great call from Reid - but we made it too easy (i.e. one TE took two of our blockers, and one CB was far too aggressive taking him outside of the play).

Last sentence ... 'don't usually work unless you're a cunt named Rodgers' ... 🙂

Watching GB is like looking into the Pats future without Brady.

A scary scary thought, but all dynasty's end.

Zeke is gone for minimum 4 games. If Cowboys play up to current level w/o Zeke, Dak should be in MVP conversation.

Sherman done for year - ruptured achilles. Duane Brown (the oL they just traded for) also went down. They still beat the Cardinals 22-16.
