We've started the season off brilliantly - 3 wins in 3 games.

Our next 5 fixtures aren't easy at all:

Leicester (A)
Spurs (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (A)
Man City (H)

What are you expecting over the next 5 games?

Those games will make or break us as serious title challengers.

First off a win against Leicester and a clean sheet is essential. If we go into the international break top of the league, no goals conceded, having won every game, absolutely everyone will be talking and thinking about us, that will be massive.

Then those games, we need to go into that Spurs game and make a massive statement, Spurs are joint with us on three wins out of three, however if you watched the Newcastle and United games, you know that they aren't hugely impressive right now, and whilst you could to degree say the same about us, our defence has been rock solid, theirs hasn't. Now don't get me wrong, that Spurs team is good enough to turn us over if we don't play to the top of our game, but if we do, and we have to, we should be able to get the better of them.

Southampton is simple, we just have to win.

Chelsea's going to be real hard though, they look very good, however they also look a little suspect in defence, well in the Arsenal game they did anyway. I'm cautious about this game though, I've got a feeling Sarri is going to have a surprise for us this game, he's a clever manager, he knows this games coming, and he'll see it as a chance for his team to make it's own statement by playing a tactical wildcard and turning over the team of the moment. For us, the key is Jorginho, it's only three games in, but you can tell he's running the show at Chelsea, I can't quite figure out how other teams haven't spotted this yet and done a job on him, but it's key we do, our pressing will be key in this game, but he's clever and knows how to deal with that press, so we absolutely must press very intelligently and as an entire team.

If things go well up to this point, I really feel we have the beating of City, maybe i'm getting ahead of myself, or i'm being a cocky Liverpool fan, but that club, and that manager, are clearly petrified of us. Pep is going to overthink this game, the players will head into this game scared, not confident, stemming from their boss and fans, and Anfield will be right fucking up for it. If we lose momentum and lose a game or two before this game, maybe that won't be the case, but if we head into this game having stayed glued to the top of the table, I really think City will fall into our hands, that defence just isn't good enough in my mind, and if we get at them, their heads will drop. That said, the quality in that team is absolutely immense, and if we ourselves get complacent, they'll make us pay.

Exciting times.

You can now figure our CL & LC games into those fixtures which are going to make Chelsea and City even tougher. Maybe even Napoli too since Klopp will have to consider Napoli away three days after Spurs way.

Our next 8 fixtures aren't easy at all:

Leicester (A)
Spurs (A)
PSG home
Southampton (H)
Chelsea home, league cup
Chelsea (A)
Napoli away
Man City (H)

10 points

Win - Leicester, Southampton, City
Draw - Chelsea
Lose- Spurs

Spurs have a very easy run of games after they play us so I wouldnt be surprised if they top the table for a while until their fixture list gets more challenging.

Fuck. The timing of that Chelsea cup match is shite.

The neutrals will love it, cos it basically forces both managers to play a strong side, knowing that a defeat would be more damaging than usual as we then face them again in the league immediately after.

I was really hoping for a 'soft' start to the cups this year.

Playing City after Napoli away is even fucking worse.

Ah well, you want to seriously challenge then you have to overcome these obstacles, but this run does look extremely difficult on paper, & one thing is for sure, we're going to need the defence to remain as strong as it has been & our front three to step up a gear.

Leicester (A) W
Spurs (A) D
PSG (H) W
Southampton (H) W
Chelsea LC (H) W
Chelsea (A) D
Napoli (A) W
Man City (H) W

That's my very optimistic prediction. I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least one more draw & a loss in there though.

I'd gladly take a loss on the league Cup if I knew for a fact we'd bounce back & beat them in the league & get a couple of tricky cl results sorted, but that's not the way this shit works in real life sadly.

Patrick will be along in a minute to spread some sunshine...

Ha, I am hopeful of 12. Spurs will be very tough.

I always thought we’ll be super strong up til Xmas but big game fixture congestion will catch up with us from Jan onwards.

I expect Southampton and League Cup to both be rotational squad to allowing the big guns to do first three in a row and final three of that run in a row.

We probably also need to consider more minutes for one of Studge or Shakiri given how sharp they both looked in pre-season and the current front three still trying to find some form.

Defo, neither team will want to show their hand in a pointless match a few days before a massive league game.

I'd also expect Solanke & Sturridge to enjoy playing against Chelsea too, even if it will be their reserves. Might this one be Lovren's first return to a starting line up after injury?

That’ll do me. Good post.

Just seen that the Spurs v City game has been moved to the Monday night 29th October. I know they both get the extra day's rest after their CL game so no advantage on an individual game basis really, probably healthier for the players... but it's because Spurs can't get that stadium open in time. They can't play it on the Sunday as there is an NFL game at Wembley on that day. God knows how that affects the pitch for Monday.

This is gonna drag on and on. Spurs have asked if they can play their league cup games at Watford.

With City at the end of that run, and them having it piss easy in both CL and LC (not to even mentioned the depth of their squad), I think we could well lose our one year + unbeaten home record.

Spurs (A) D
PSG (H) D

Spurs are miles better than Utd.

No they aren’t better than us but will have an easier run in the league after Xmas they’ll bomb it out of Europe.

If they were "miles better" than United, they wouldn't have finished behind them in the league and got knocked out by them in the FA cup semi-final last season.
