Lovely idea. But why are all sculptors so shit?
Because true-to-life sculpture isn't exactly a relevant school of art at the moment, but, for this sort of public remembrance, it tends to be popular. You end up in the madame toussaud realm, where it's so trivial to see photos and videos of people, that every production of them otherwise looks "off" even if, in years past, it would have been uncanny.
This has an even harder degree of difficulty, because it's based off an easily recognizable photo. That photo was the artistic production. This now, is a translation, but one that isn't really expected to say anything.
Just make this like that, was the remit. That's fucking hard! Because immediately, as we've already seen, you've got it compared to the original photo, as presented in two dimensions. Translate this thing into a whole new medium, but uh, make it the same.
Anyhow... it looks fine to me, but I haven't seen it yet, really, so I'll reserve judgment. Shit though? I don't think so, and when you consider the other attempts at popular football sculptures in recent memory, I think we did ine here.
