It's not the issue of him wanting to leave; he had every right to.

But once you've left, cease with this public adoration of a club you've left behind, and which turned to shit in no small part because you left.

I'd have Yossi back as well.

I know Xabi left us when he didn't have to but I can understand his actions entirely. His departure wasn't directed at the club or fans - it was solely a "screw you" to Rafa. Like JJ we all love the "commit to the club whatever the cost" attitude and I do agree that Rafa swallowed some pride. However, none of Rafa's actions were for Xabi's benefit - they were all well and truly for his own sake. Xabi leaving would bring heat on him as well as weakening his team. He got pissed off because Alonso - rightly - placed his wife and child ahead of a football game. Then he said not a word to his player while he hawked him across Europe.

As JJ says the episode did result in Xabi producing some of his best form but, while I'm sure Xabi enjoyed the success he was still deeply insulted and, I dare say, without a tenable relationship with his manager. The only way to repay Rafa's pathetic behaviour was to give him what he had sought - the transfer of one of his best players. I remain convinced that Rafa's public declarations of Xabi being welcome were, as rumoured, a complete sham.

He may have been a great tactician but Rafa's record with top players - Owen, Gerrard, Xabi, Sami, Riise, Baros, Crouch, Cisse etc was woeful. Owen, we say, just wanted out despite the claims of the player himself. Gerrard, of course, was just a miserable git who is hard to get along with. Xabi just didn't really love us despite claiming he did. Sami - well he just didn't get on with Rafa and was getting old anyway. Baros obviously wouldn't do what he was told, Crouch was poor, Cisse had a poor attitude, Riise was - I don't know but he was obviously wrong somewhere. ??? At some point you have to just say there might be something in the idea that there's a common theme running through all these episodes - Rafa. He's not there to be their father but if he wants them to perform then he has to have their trust and confidence. Clearly that level of trust was not exactly high.

This is a fantastic post by the way.

Alonso is one of my favourite players. Resigning him would excite me as much as most of the world class names that get bandied about during any given transfer window. Just a majestic footballer.

i love Alonso.. if we re-signed him i'd have a huge smile on my face for weeks.

The guy is pure class.. a PROPER footballer.

Bellamy, Yossi, Arbeloa... id have back.

Mascherano doesnt deserve our support ever again and the biggest heartfelt public apology ever would be needed to change my opinion.

Torres... i couldnt watch him. His face alone makes me angry.

Avvy and Redzeppelins last posts are excellent, they say all that can be said on the matter.

Avvy hasn't posted, and RedZeppelin's post is a long way from being "all that can be said on the matter". Spot on otherwise.

Sorry, I meant wizardrys post, was in a hurry reading and replying to it and read it in the post that Avvy posted. Im not even gonna bother with your pettiness, but thank you so much for being so kind as to pull me on it, im so glad we have people in here that are so nice as to go out of their way to notice a genuine mistake, of course, anyone else could have seen that the quote was contained in avvys post and worked it out from there, but im glad you pointed it out to everyone. You'd think we were after having a difference of opinion somewhere else in the thread or something. And just so we're clear..... to me those two posts say all that can be said on the matter!! Thanks again Chief 😉

If you're going to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you just like that, expect to get picked up on it.

Robin I'd like your vagina to get Alonso back to us.

If this is comedy it's a pretty bland variety.

I wouldn't call cisse crouch riise and baros top players tbh, but Sami didn't get on with rafa ?

Am dying for next bio of a Liverpool player to come out so we can fully understand rafas dressing room style! No one really knows

Well, Baros was either Golden Boot at the Euros or pretty close wasn't he, an international and one of our primary strikers so I think he'd be classed as one of our top players.

Crouch - meh. Everyone has an opinion but he was a regular part of our first team so that qualifies in this case for me.

Rafa's dressing room has always been the same like every other manager but the problem was with him is how he treat players. His man-management is very bad. He's not close to players, he treat them like robot.
