My very words when I saw the commercial.

I wonder whether the ad agencies realise that they are playing with fire when they feature a universally-loathed cunt like that in the commercials?

:🙂

yeah me and my mates always have a laugh at how shit that advert is.

"Cassshtrol takes me meny plasshes.... hot plasshes... cold plaashess.... cashtrol edddsh, itsh likwid engineering"

It's easy to say that from the comforts of our Liverpool forum.

But I bet the amount of people (globally) who 'love' Ronaldo eclipses the number who hate him.

I think that even the Real Madrid fans know what an arsehole Cristiano Ronaldo is.

The episode was very telling this season when Ronaldo mis-hit a shot, one of his team-mates stuck it in the net, and Ronaldo's reaction was to hold his head in anguish, instead of celebrating the goal.

It doesnt really matter whether people like him or not TBH.

It's brand recognition. Most people wont take Oncey's stance & let it stop them buying something, so if they saw a no-brand oil & next to it Castrol for a quid more they'd pick the castrol.

It's the way a lot of advertising works now. People choose what they have seen before & recognise cos they feel it's safe.

Even if it does have a horrible slimy disgusting cunt advertising it.

I thought the idea of Ronaldo advertising something oily was massively appropriate.

I can't help thinking some ad agency guy had his tongue firmly in his cheek when shortlisting candidates and the company then went and chose him!

Did anyone stop using Vodafone when they were sponsoring the Scum?

I bet loads of people said they would boycot them - but in reality, no one did.

I even use AIG for insurance purposes!

That's partly due to lack of options tho; the most successful companies will be drawn to the most successful football teams.

The Scum have links to both national carriers; my only other option to fly domestically is a turbo-prop low-cost concern (which is also owned by one of the two airlines I've mentioned)

I boycotted Sharp, Vodafone and AIG in turn.

Vodafone also sponsor the England cricket team which I support, but I still wouldn't buy anything with their name on it.

LOL!

I really do deeply hate Man United with all of my being, down to the last cell in my body.

I sometimes think that maybe I am a bit eccentric to consider them the embodiment of Evil but I do.

[/quote]I agree with you Portly. The way i see it is Nike (eg) use some of their profit margin to tie up these sponsorship deals and some of the money that makes up that profit will be made up of product sales. So as insignificant a percentage as it may be some SOME of the cash i would spend on a Nike shirt or whatever would find its way to Old Trafford. I cant live with that.

That said i hated nike before so it will be a test if a product i really like sponsor them
