Naby Keita

Not to give him a bluebell esc kiss of death, but he's finally starting to show it isn't he? It's been an impressive month for him, he's started games back to back on merit, he's scoring goals, providing some beautiful through balls, link up play, running in behind, and generally starting to show how much of a baller he is as he glides past players in midfield (see Maddison and Tielemans last night).

Until Fabinho is back, he's rightfully first choice in midfield alongside Hendo and Gini, but he's still got more to do. I still find he's a little clumsy and passive on the ball, he needs to be more authorative in his play, and I'd also like to see him getting more assists alongside his pleasing goal output, mainly so I can start calling him Naby Creator.

Anyway, great month for those of us in camp Naby, long may his improvement continue.
Well, here's a question. Have we been playing better without Fans. I think defensively we conceded fewer goals. As slagging players, it should be encouraged. It's been proven time and time again that as soon as a post goes up, the players fortune changes

Earlier in the season, I was starting to worry that Naby wouldn't be able to reproduce his form and performances from when he was in Bundesliga. He seemed to struggle to adjust to pace and his decision making in possession wasn't there. Add to that a couple of niggling injuries and it wasn't looking good but with Henderson, Milner, Gini, Fab all looking good, Naby's form and fitness were less of a worry.

Then we had some injuries and a more congested fixture list and we needed Naby. He didn't hit ground running but he's got stronger, more consistent and more influential at times when we couldn't afford to let up. He was excellent against Leicester. Great interplay, broke up possession, won ball and got counter attacks flowing and made excellent decisions in possession that meant we threatened more and didn't get caught in possession.

One concern. He seems to struggle with stamina as the game reaches the hour mark. He came off for Milner at a point where the game was in balance from score line perspective and Leicester were gathering some momentum. I may be wrong but I'm sure the 70th minute subbing of him when he starts is becoming regular? Happy to be corrected by anyone with better knowledge.

But yeah we've needed him over past few months and he's delivered and improved and added a different style of midfield play from the others. Good for him and excellent for the team/squad.

Unless the medical staff are passing him fit to play and he's fannying out of playing, it's not really about hardening up is it? That's just a really moronic assumption.

He needs to stop getting injuries, but then so does AOC, and I don't think you can really accuse him of needing to harden up. He's injury prone, it's unfortunate and it's obviously effected minutes played. When he has been available he's been getting eased in after injury, so he's rightly been protected by being subbed and rotated.

It'd be great if he could stop getting injured, but it's not his fault.

You can't be calling people moronic while taking Ox to compare with Keita. How many games did Ox played till he suffered a very bad injury against Roma? If you had knee injury and reconstruct them before, you would know you are different soon after. You don't have the same confidence when you run and go for tackles. After a big knee injury like Ox, you tend to find other parts of your legs and muscles to compensate so that you don't over did your knee, that's in your head till you gain enough confidence on that knee. Keita on the other hand picked up small injuries that sidelined him for a few weeks, came back for a couple of weeks and then off again for a few more weeks. That sort of injuries cannot be compared to what Ox suffered.

Keita to me can be considered as injury prone, but I won't go that route for Oxlade-Chamberlain because of the type of injury he suffered against Roma.

Anyway that heat map stats to me is just one more ways to big some of our players up. Until he can stay fit and play more than half a season, only then we could collect his stats and say how good he is. Otherwise it means nothing. Colin Pascoe had 100% win record, doesn't make him better than Klopp. Allardyce had 100% win record for England, doesn't make him better than Lippi.

He seemed to be very durable in Germany so I'm just hoping this is an anomalous run of bad luck.
Keita played a lot of games over Christmas, and was one of a number who fell victim to the scheduling. It's more than fair to disregard this current injury I'd say.

I guess I put more emphasis on mindset than you.

Mind over matter eh.

Not exactly but compare him to someone like Milner or Henderson who literally take injections to play and I think he could work on his comittment.

The fact he’s a total shithouse in a 50/50 doesn’t help his case. I think he’s too weak for England mentally and that affects him physically

You have no idea what the medical team are recommending for any of them .. so you're just being a dick making those assumptions.

Guess you think the injuries to Gini and Milner in this period show they're injury prone too?

No, because they aren't.

Keita has had 6 separate injuries since he was officially a Liverpool player, one that curtailed the entirety of a pre-season and the other 5 that have caused him to be unavailable for 20 games in total, across a period of 139 days.

In less than two seasons.

Cheers, and thanks for playing. Next.
