Well if he does go there, let's hope it doesn't turn out like the last player that they signed after we turned our nose up at

I just dont want this motherfucker.
Hes like Aperol Spritz, a year ago I never heard of him and its giving me a fucking headache

With Pogba and Mata who can play as the number ten, as well as potentially Sanchez, coupled with the fact that most Mancs I speak to see to think Mourinho is going to move to a 442 system to accommodate Sanchez and Lukaku as a front two, I find this quite unlikely.

Admittedly Thommo's proboscis would have looked impressive at the angle, but we didn't exactly turn up our nose a Ronaldo. This is Thommo's account of what happened:

"I was invited to watch Sporting Lisbon play Porto in the last game of the season. Ronaldo was playing for Sporting. Tony Henry, the former Manchester City player and agent, was on the phone on a regular basis to see if he could take us to watch him.

"I met Tony at the airport and travelled to Porto. I met the player's Portuguese agent before watching the game. Ronaldo was quite good, but not as impressive as the first time I saw him. Tony was pushing the boy and saying he was a talent. He was saying: 'He will only cost #4m.'

"He added: 'It can be paid over the course of his contract, £1m a year.'

"He also said that the player wanted #1m tax free. I said: 'The boy is only 18. That is a massive problem,' but Tony suggested it was negotiable.

"I returned back the following day impressed with what I had seen and mentioned it to Gerard. He said: 'I will ask Rick.'

Ten days later I was sitting in a lounge at Anfield having some lunch and looking at the big TV screen. Up came the news United had signed Ronaldo from Lisbon for #12.2m. Gerard and myself nearly choked on our food.

"Gerard said: 'Contact Tony Henry,' and I went straight out and rang him. I said: 'what happened? More importantly, what happened with the price?' He said: 'After you had been with me, I got a phone call the following week and was told to drop everything on the deal. Hand on heart, I really don't know what happened.'

"I went back and told Gerard the story. What happened, God only knows. For the fee to jump from £4m to £12m, especially as they seemed so desperate, was surprising to say the least."

The Ronaldo that turned into the player we now know may not have turned out to be the same under someone like GH.

Fair enough, but I believe that there could be an element of "glossing over" there by Thommo, guess we'll never know the whole truth.

Fekir is 25 in a week or so, hes not going to be another Ronaldo. I dont believe this interest from Utd is genuine, and even if it is then not bothered as we clearly decided not to pursue it.

Also wasn't there a rumor that was dismissed that Lyon wanted to stall the deal until July for money reasons? Well, it's awfully convenient that the news of us negotiating again comes out on the 1st July in that case.

I still expect this to go through. We just ran out of time to cross the final t's and dot the final i's before the French national team deadline.

It's probably all been sorted while Nabil is on international duty. However, Lyon can't announce it because of two reasons.

1) it needs to be announced to the stock exchange in advance.

However

2) french national team rules says you can't have any off field distractions, such as sign for a club. As the media would ask distracting questions about said new club and old club.

So until the French are out the world cup, we are in a limbo situation.

The silence on our part is deafening.

I thought France was still in the World Cup? In which case, I see no movement on the chap or anybody else to Liverpool or any other team for that matter until France is out or the World Cup is over which ever comes first.

That rumour was nonsense. The French transfer window opens in June and their financial year is Jan to Dec, there is no reason they couldnt sell in June if they wanted to.

The club don't really need to be talking with the player himself at present - it sounds as if the talks with him went fine - so I'm not entirely sceptical of reports that the club is resuming talks with Lyon right now. The problem is between the clubs, not between us and Fekir, so it would be sensible if we did want this resolved promptly after the WC to resume contact now. After the finals Fekir will, presumably, be off for a vacation until pre-season training starts for those who took part, so it's implausible that nothing is happening about any possible transfers until the next fortnight is over.

I don't disagree, it's just an almighty coincidence.

The idea everyone involved in transfers at the club went on their hols until the WC is over is horseshit. They're taking with clubs and agents every single day.
