Firmino leads that race comfortably

But Lovren might get close to him if he continues in the same way.

Can and Origi have also improved tremendously.

Its heartening to see that the new manager appointed is able to generate improvements right through the spine like that.

Also....whatever it is a dm is expected to do Can is doing it a lot beetter than anyone since Masher...

Many of us banged on for ages about Can playing as a DM, a few posters reckoned he lacked the discipline to play there, he looks fucking great there.

I was one of those posters, mark, and I remain of the view that until recently he hasn't looked right when tried in that position. I'm still not persuaded it's his best position either (that for me would be further forward) but he's deffo improved in the role.

IMO Allen's in with a shout for this particular award. He's really stepped up in recent games.

I still think its Can, Firminos improvement is more noticeable in that hes now turning in decent performances and scoring goals where previously he was just wandering around lost, but Can has become one of the first names on the team sheet. Hes less spectacular but hes been incredibly consistent since the turn of the year. I was reading earlier that in the last 15 games we have only been beaten twice in normal time (Leicester and West Ham), with Henderson struggling badly to get any sort of consistency and Milner playing the role of odd job man its Can that has been the anchor for that run of form. He may well end up being our player of the season.

The team.

I was thinking about actually starting a thread about how I think Klopp & his coaches' work is starting to show. Looking at those two games against the Mancs objectively we dispatched them fairly clinically.

The main thing he has to work on is big game mentality I think. League Cup, first half last night and maybe West Ham we didn't really turn up but I think he'll sign players with that mentality to infect the others- he may show that trait is even more important than positional needs if he gets rid of Studge.

Future's bright anyway, lads.

A few weeks ago at least half of those being mentioned were wank.
Improved? My arse...
We'll see how this season ends.

Think Milner and Lallana have improved aswell.

Lallana yes, but Milner? I'm sorry to say I can't stand to watch him. Yes, he's a real honest grafter and has great fitness levels but I've been so disappointed with his general level of play and creativity. I guess I had him as a talented player with still time to really blossom into a top central midfielder, but he's nowhere near good enough.

And his versatility is mostly down to his willingness to work hard and stick to the manager's instructions. But last night, he was woefully exposed at left back for me. Smith would have been a much better option.

So whilst he's a useful squad option, I'd have him nowhere near the 1st team come next season, and that's a real disappointment to me.

Phooey. Most of them never were "wank". Their play might have been at the time, but plenty of us knew they were capable of better, and now they're proving it.

Is can a DM ? He gets forward alot for a DM

He looks like the very definition of a central midfielder to me. Good passer, high energy , can defend and attack

And back to being shit again. This was exactly what I was talking about.
Klopp is a great manager and he could do very good things in terms of man management but he a no miracle maker.
We still need better players.

Today's match really sums up our players. In the first half you could see the squad's potential. If the score had been 4-1 to us, we would have deserved it as we were that good.

The second half shows up all the problems we've got...

That's not 'potential' that's an obvious sign of simple lack of quality. Quality players don't play well for 45 minutes and then like total cunts for 45.

We missed Firmino, Henderson and Moreno, and given not one of those players are consistently top quality either, it's quite depressing

Amen to that.

Can't wait for the next transfer window.

Yep, we definitely don't have enough quality in the squad but I'm feeling a bit more optimistic now compared to a few months ago that it's not that hard to fix with a few clever signings to make it a top 4 squad.

Agreed. We're obv.not the finished article yet but the gap is far from unbridgeable, and the job facing Klopp is very similar to the one he did with such success in Dortmund.
