Yeah maybe give Minamino at least half a season before judging him.
I know more expensive players who were given years...

and countless talented players who took a while to settle and then really shone, and continued to do so.

having said that, the window is still open if folk want to lobby Klopp to sell him as he’s not been up to the standard expected by some after such a long run in the first team.

Bobby wasn't particularly great when he started with us either, he was written off and criticised. Sometimes fairly, sometimes by some fucking bellends after two games.

I don't really know how you can criticise a player after 1.5 games, mostly with otch-botch line ups in cups. In fact let's best honest, it's fucking dumb, trigger happy nonsense. When you consider that Klopp has a near infallible record with signings and progressing players.

Interview with Sports Hochi

Sitting on the bench for the previous two Premier League matches

Sitting on the bench isn't due to anything I'm lacking. This team can already do it all so I was prepared for this when I joined, although I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's inevitable I'm not seeing any time. It's important to take all of the chances like this one I've been given today.

Wolves

The opposition is a brilliant side and it's clear how they want to play. Supplying the ball to players up the pitch, making advancing runs with players who can do it solo, and putting their bodies on the line defensively. Winning the second ball was one of the keys to the match so that was a primary focus. There were moments where I was successful and others not so much. It's something I need to work on for the future.

Playing on the right

Rather than thinking about the side I'm playing on, I think it makes more sense to think about which fullback I'm linking up with. Developing a mutual understanding with the other player on what the other wants to do would make things a lot easier, but I'm not too worried about that right now (because it's so early). I'll always try to look for ways to improve that aspect.

Changes in the second half

At the beginning of the second half I was playing like an advanced CM, towards the middle of the pitch. In terms of effectiveness, I wasn't able to receive the ball in good positions. If I were able to receive the ball looking forward, it would have created more chances. I think it would have been a lot better if I were able to find the correct positions a little more quickly.

The positives and points to improve

There were moments where I would have been free inside the box if I had been fed the ball. I need to find more opportunities where I can receive the ball between the lines and face forwards. When I get a better understanding of the positions, I think I'll be able to make my own plays.

The difficulty of joining a complete team that have played together for years

There's nothing I can do about it. I was prepared for it when I joined. I just have to struggle and survive. I've finally come to this stage, and I feel like I've just gotten started.

3 weeks since joining practice, all that's left is getting experience on the pitch

Definitely. There are scenes I can only experience while on the pitch. It also helps me figure out what I don't understand yet. The opportunity came suddenly today, but it was really good to be able to experience such a close match.

How the equalizer felt

We were equalized after I had been introduced to the pitch, so I wanted to create the opportunity to lead. After the team scored the second I was trying to make simple plays and focus on defense.

Intense movement on the pitch

That's what I've been preparing to do, and being able to do it suddenly is what it means to be a professional. I think that's the minimum expectation.

Mental condition

There is definitely stress involved with adapting to a new environment, but I just have to do it. If I can't then [my career at Liverpool] is finished.

Dealing with the pressure

I didn't feel any pressure at all. I don't know if people have high expectations for me or not, but I have nothing to lose, so no pressure. I'm just an Asian guy... I don't know how to say it. I really have nothing to lose. Is the internet/television going crazy? I don't feel it at all. Maybe today was the first time I've really been judged. I think it's just the beginning in that regard as well. I hope to continue making my own plays in the future.

Feeling like part of the squad

I do feel like I'm a part of the squad. But I want to be accepted for my performance on the pitch like "wow, this guy is good". I've been able to do it so far [in my previous teams], but I truthfully want to force my teammates to have to accept me.

On English

Still not good at all... I'm starting to understand more, but I'm still not able to communicate well yet. I especially felt it in today's match. I think it's really important so I hope I can improve gradually.[/article]

Both needed a critical assessment, and many of my issues with both players are still valid in many ways, although Wijnaldum has been far more consistent. But let's not forget how poor Firmino was in many games for the first three- four months of this season, before he remembered how to score again.

That said, Henderson's incredible form has only been since Fabinho was missing, he too had some really average games pre-Xmas.

But your general point is valid and fair.

That's a funny way of phrasing "I was completely fucking wrong and still refusing to learn from it." 😉

Mina’s got a good attitude and he seems like a focused, hardworking and determined lad. That alone will help him win half his battles. I’m not too worried tbh.

Love otch-botch for hotchpotch

Hodge's bodge:

Bodge
A massive set off balls big enough to hit someone round the face with and instantly knock them out. They r a very good thing to have if u don’t have a bodge what do u have
“Wow marcy have u seen Harry’s massive bodge

“Oh shit mate nearly bigger then mine”

Firmino was great at the start of the season, wasn't he? Then a bit shit in the middle, now he's being good again?

Brendan has definitely learned from it. Way too risky to go all in against a player now that Klopp is in charge. It's all well and good going early (cf Bobby) and targeting a player you expect to fall short with us but you may end up looking silly when Klopp uses the player as the fulcrum of our team.

Minamino could be targeted, he's too small and weak etc. cf Keita. But Minamino was so cheap and so good against us that he isn't worth wading in against.
Gone are the days when you can bash Crouch from the start knowing he's not going to make you look silly. It also helps that we are signing a higher caliber of players.

Certainly does seem like the good old days of taking an immediate dislike to a player is more risky than it once was, what with all the data, and science and boss scouting and of course Klopp.

There’s - thankfully - a more coherent and careful approach, which minimises another Aquilani, Balotelli, Borini, Morientes, Carroll, Allen, Lucas, Cole, Downing or Sakho

Even signings that seem a risk in terms of player profile or cost have recently been the likes of the amazing Andy Robertson or Mane (although I was always confident in him).

And big outlays like Alison and Van Dijk have been transformational. Some take longer than others to shine (Matip, Wijnaldum, Firmino et al)

But, as Karius has shown, and Keita and AOC to a lesser extent maybe, there’s always risk. Not every signing is going to be Salah or Mane. Nobody is perfect, not even Klopp and co.

And I will be there, waiting, to bravely call out these anomalies and demand change. I will not be blinded or swayed by cost or reputation.

Never.

But then the opposite extreme is far worse, mongs quacking on about how we should give Karius or Mignolet or Joe Allen or Balotelli or whoever "more time"
I think we've given the names I highlighted enough time to show that they are a world beater. Balotelli's case could be argued as a manager taking your way of evaluating player, being critical over each game in each instance, and not given time to play more since that manager has the power to bench players (thankfully you don't). So if the mongs are quacking after Minamino been with us for more than 12 months and still struggle to understand how we play - e.g. Shaqiri, then I will join your team. Else, I think your example above is not fair to the people who are asking for more time for Minamino, those names had more games to prove themselves and they couldn't.

But I haven't made any conclusion about Minamino, or given anything remotely like a definitive opinion.

I've just, correctly, said he's been rubbish in his two games so far. That's it.

You’ve been rubbish in your last few posts. Why are you not ripping one of our heads off for calling you out? You’ve gone soft.

I didn't think minamino has been rubbish, just ineffective

Fabinho and Robbo looked shite initially, couple of months later and they never looked back. Our game approach can't be taught in a months time, no matter how studious the players ethnicity is

Robertson didn't look shite initially, he hardly played until Moreno got injured. And when he did play, he was impressive, and then he got in for good and stayed in.

It seems to be have been all caught up in the narrative about players taking time to get used to Klopp's demands and how we play and blah blah blah but in reality Robertson looked good from his first game against Palace, and everyone also forgets that Moreno, amazingly, did actually start the season well.

Points above are correct. Moreno was very good for a few months - then reverted to his normal self (like in the Robin Williams "Awakenings" film). This may or may not have been beneficial to Robertson adapting. Other point made - Haaland. He took no time to adapt. Which goes along with the youngsters who get their opportunities - the ones who have star quality, you can see it pretty much from the start.
So - while I hope to see Minamino thrive at Anfield, and believe based on what I saw at Salzburg, and based on Klopp's acumen, that he has the attributes to succeed - I am still a little disappointed that he has not more immediately looked the part.

Hmm, yeah, although the sort of player you're talking about, obviously a superstar from a very young age and almost immediate fixtures in their teams - Messi, Ronaldo, Owen, Fowler, M'Bappe, Rooney, Gerrard, TAA, Neymar, Hazard et al - aren't exactly that common, and I don't think it's fair, or that anyone expects 24 year old MiniMe to ever be near that level.

Haaland looks like an amazing buy. £60m ish is buyout clause, should LFC look to him, rather than Werner who doesn't like noisy stadiums.

Haaland will stay at Dortmund for 2-3 years. And that release clause will get renegotiated along with higher wages during that time.

The clause (which is peanuts in today’s market) will probably get triggered in the summer at the rate he is going.

Plenty of potential there all right but I'm reserving judgment on Haaland at this stage. He tried to run Virgil at the start of our away game against Salzburg, promptly got put back in his box and then (this is the bit that worries me a little) hardly showed for the rest of the game. He'll need to become stronger than that mentally if he's going to flourish in the Prem.
