Midfielders other than Bellingham

I like him - but IMO he would be a useful squad addition, a younger version of Milner if you will, not a fundamental player in midfield. Everything depends on the price.
There's no world in which we pay £50-70m for a squad player (or even that MacAllister would come here to sit on the bench). If he's not a starter then we need to spend that money elsewhere.

Yea it’s a good signing, still wondering what was in that Brighton contract extension that convinced him to sign over walking away for free this summer. I remain convinced there’s a low release fee, which would make sense of our interest. £35m i reckon

Guessing he takes a percentage of the transfer fee... don't know if that's legal or there is a massive Golden Goodbye which is legal.

This is all hindsight. Willing to pay £20m to get them and then leave them in the reserves / U21? Because they won't get games initially. And which players? You say take a gamble but the problem with that is that MOST gambles won't pay off ... which is why most teams would rather pay £60m for a proven player than gamble 3 x £20m or 6 x £10m on potential.

The alternative, which I agree with, is getting someone in with a track record for scouting young talent. Even then it's a touch gig.

All signings are a gamble and we've taken huge L's on many of them. We cannot compete with the big spenders, FSG is an asset-rich company and not cash rich. Therefore we need to think differently. So you can buy the one player who takes up all your budget but you need to fill two or 3 positions or get players that fill all the positions but not at the level of primary choice.
If talents need game time and are not ready for the first team, you loan them out

Mac Allister for a decent price seems like a no brainer, feels like a long term successor to Milner (although less of a fitness freak and more on the technical side). He could slot anywhere in midfield and we'd be better off

And the money you've just spent on them (6 x £10m or whatever) is now going to waste. All well and good when you are a plastic but we're not so it's a moot point.

Mac Allister wont move for a decent fee. It will be inflated and insanely high. New contract, strong season and WC and add in that Blom is very difficult.
The team that signs him will get rinsed.

I'd rather go for other targets in all honesty.

Not so as youngsters are usually on low salaries and maintain or grow value. They can also generate revenue income from loan fees. Remember the harsh reality is we can't afford to maintain a squad with one signing per window when we need 2-3. As you admitted good scouting limits and reduces that risks. We could have gone for Moises Caicedo at the same time as Brighton but pulled out due to the hassle, and its Brighton who is reaping the rewards

This is NOT our style. We usually go for players under the radar. We never win when we're competing. We win when we swoop in behind the scenes and just get the deal done before anyone knows anything about the player

I agree with Markeh. I think there will be a new release clause in his latest renewal.

Unless we genuinely believe we're getting gravenberch for less than 30m, I can't see us spending big money on this lad.

Disagree, it's our style a lot recently. Seems to coincide with when our purchases became iffy

Its been reported that he doesnt have a release clause in his new contract.

Errr that's exactly what I've just said - you can't go spending 30-40-60m (£10-20m per head) on the top youngsters to join the U21s when we are struggling to buy the players we need for the 1st team. Is that so difficult to comprehend? All teams scout and it's always a gamble, you talk as if it's a certainty when most will fail.

There will be something. There.must be. I don't think we'd be in for him if there wasn't some way for us to get value

Sorry, yes you are correct. It has become our style. But it as not our style a year or two ago when Edwards was running the show, and shit got signed before the papers had a decent whiff. When we were making the right moves.

Mmh. Looks like another season where we plan for early signings if these reports are to be believed. I do class Reddy/Romano/Ornstein as fairly credible journo's & they all seem to be on the case we're meeting up with reps of both Gravenberch and Macallister to finalise a deal.

So say Gravenberch - £25-30m & Macallister £50-60m.

What next? Or will that be it? Any news on potential outgoings other than the ones we know about?

I'd still want one more... don't know if Klopp agrees

Need another mid or a right back (if klopp does the unthinkable with Trent), as well as a cb

We're losing 3 CMS (ox, keita, milner) on frees, hopefully will sell Gomez, maybe buy a Ouija board to bring Ramsay back from the great beyond.

RB I'd be willing to count on Ramsay & Bradley tbh....provided the former is fit enough for a full pre-season, why not give kid these 2 kids a go to fight it out, be a breathe of fresh air.

Doubt we'll get 4 or more signings so realistically 1 DM, 1 CM and 1 CB. I'd be content enough with that so long as none of the midfielders were Gallagher or Mount.

Alisson/Kelleher?

Ramsay/Bradley
Virgil/Matip
Konate/Medina
Robbo/Kostas

Trent/Hendo/Harvey
Barella/Thiago/Morton
Macallister/Gravenburch/Baj

Salah/Wirtz?/Okafor? Think we need a back up to really push Mo now.
Nunez/Gakpo
Diaz/Jota

Sell Fab Gomez Jones...maybe Kelleher if we get good offers.

Couldn't give a shit if he had a Man U tattoo up his arse or a tattoo of Fergie on his knob, if he signed and help us win the league/CL I'd class him as a hero.

We were linked with Andre a few months back. He is a CDM, but going by YouTube he is the most Gini-esk player I have seem

We’re in for a new midfield starlet. Costs nothing - passes like silk. His name is Trellingham
