What worries me is that Markovic looks a wee 'average' paced ... I thought he was incredibly fast based on games I've caught and that isn't really showing itself in any of the games he's started in.

I know the opposition aren't Pl quality by any means, but considering this side has never played together I think the performance belies that fact.

Whilst nothing amazing we look remarkably cohesive in most areas.

Agree.
We actually look like a team tonight.
Well apart from Kolo who seems to be in some sort of twilight zone.

I think he looks lost out on the right. He starts running with the ball and doesn't seem to know what to do with it.

Since no one else is going to say it: Lucas Leiva is having a quietly solid game for Liverpool.

The Chilean Serbian Beckham!

He has been a bit one paced today but mostly out muscled. Needs to take a leaf out of Sterling's book and hit the gym. Also could perhaps show a bit more when the team is not in possession.

He's clearly uncomfortable on the right. He keeps making attempts to move in as well.

I think his strength really is cutting in and shooting and that's wasted on the right. I'd get him to swap flanks with Sterling in the second half.

You mean Lallana?

Sterling has got a free role in the middle it seems.

Lallana probably the best player in the first half.

Sterling, Lucas, Enrique and Sakho have looked good as well. Rossiter has been steady too.

He popped out on the left a few times, and Lallana likes it central. I'd put Sterling wide right and Markovic on the left. Let Lallana get more central if he wants.

@Modo, what's the obsession with Lucas?

Obsession? I made a promise before the game, that if Lucas plays at DM and has a poor performance I'd stop mentioning him.

Is Modo actually using Twatter as some sort of vindication of a players performance against a Boro backup side.
Tragic even for him.

What's tragic is that Lucas isn't getting a fair shot here so I have to seek other outlets like twitter.
Did you mention Boro backups when you were sucking Lallana's dick in this thread?

Read back on that post.

Why are you making promises about not mentioning Lucas? That seems to imply you have a problem.... perhaps a bit of an obsession?

Enrique playing well. Sterling best player on the pitch by a mile. Boring game and we look like we will concede soon.

It's between Lallana and Sterling for me so far for the first half. I'm happy to see Lallana play well; with Coutinho out of form and now injured, we could do with another player stepping up on the attacking front to take the load off Sterling. Agreed on Enrique - he's putting in a performance you want from someone who has lost his place and wants to win it back. Lucas and Rossiter playing well too, and I agree with the posters who said that Markovic seems better on the left.

Hopefully we score again quickly after the break so we can rest Sterling and bring on Suso to play on the right with Markovic switching to the other flank.

admittedly I do favour Lucas but I wouldn't call it an obsession. With Gerrard not working out at DM, he seems to be the right choice.
I was obsessed about Downing.

Ming - OK, one good save to make.
Enrique - providing our most potent attacking thrust so far .. which says it all.
Sakho - dominant in the air, one dodgy moment with a misunderstanding with Lucas. Otherwise he looks like he is trying to control the back line.
Toure - looking like our #4 CB
Manquillo - looks like he's been told to rein it in today and let Markovic take on that right touchline, he's done fine though.
Rossiter - great start to his LFC career with a goal (no matter that it was two horrendous mistakes from their CB and then the GK). Very tidy and confident but I'd like to see more attacking passes from him.
Lucas - bar the usual patented 'Lucas Tackles From Behind' he's done well.
Markovic - very disappointing, I expected to see him shine today but he's looking poor so far.
Lallana - our best player so far for me. Superb control and looking to break through their defensive line with neat passing and vision. Unfortunately we have no-one he can pass to.
Sterling - crap. This 'next world-class player' thing looks to be going to his head. He is coming too deep depriving us of any pace to break through their backline and Sterling seems to think he now has to dribble his way past every player he faces up to .. resulting in a lot of lost possession.
Lambert - very poor. Looks off the pace and slow. If he is the focal point of our attack then why isn't he central more often, holding the ball up and bringing others into play ? I don't want to see him over on the right touchline where he's spent a fair portion of his time.

The most disappointing is that we get ⅔ of the way up the pitch and more often than not then it turns around and comes back. Just have a go FFS !
We also need some pace up front so will someone please tell Sterling and Markovic to get on the shoulders of the defenders and not just pick it up deep and try to run at them.
