Micah Richards for £5m?

can't see richards providing the guile, touch or crossing that we'd want out of our full back. clearly over rated and i'd rather not waste money on him thanks.

if we end up with richards after missing out on johnson it'll be the pennant alves thing all over again

Anyone think Micah Richards might (with some serious coaching) make a good DM? He's still very young, and doesn't look entirely comfortable at CB.

Yes, in fact I was going to post exactly that the other day. He'd be pretty Masher-esque in fact with his scurrying pace and ability to make a saving tackle. He could potentially be very good there, but would need time.

I wouldn't be appalled if we bought him - I'd be quite intrigued to see how he fares - but he worries me. His attitude is not much better than Pennant's, and I don't think he's been coached well at all: he certainly doesn't seem to have the positional sense needed for a defender, and he gets by because of his great pace and power, but that won't last if he keeps picking up injuries and, er, 'refuels' in his current dubious ways.

Really? How have you heard that, Macca?

Re: Micah Richards for £5m?

He's got a dodgy rep, it's been known for a while, which is probably why City are looking to offload.

As for whether he could play DM, I have my doubts - he has all the making of a great player but the main attribute for the best DM's - just like a CB - is anticipation and good positional sense, and Micah doesn't have that - yet. I suppose he would be able to use his pace and power more in midfield so by no means and I'm ruling it out, but he would have a lot of work to do if he were to embark on such a change.

If he's going on the cheap then he would be an interesting project, but in a year where we've come close to the title, maybe it's not the time to be taking risks... On the other hand I said in the Johnson thread that Rafa, Carra & co could improve his game, so maybe the same could be said of Micah.

I guess I'm torn but the bottom line is: I didn't want to start the summer spending £23M+ on defenders.

All I've heard (regularly) is that he spends a lot of his free time in the evenings DJ'ing and takes it very seriously and the City fans think he is distracted because of this!

One could argue that's exactly what we need to do given the amount of goals we banged in last season (especially late-season), whilst conceding some sloppy goals.

It might not be glamorous but Rafa might certainly find some justification in concentrating his efforts on the back-line. We scored a bucket-load last year without our best two players on the field together a lot of the time.

has ryan nicked your girlfriend or someone? you seem to have a serious mad on for him.

I think it's more the fact the young lad has all the attributes to be a top player, but cant translate that into becoming a top player. Cos he's either lazy, ignorant, has no football brain, or all of the above. Babel pisses me off something silly simply because he should be a good player, but isnt.
Why is he either lazy or ignorant? Why can't it be that it hasn't just worked out for him? Leave your profiling at the door.

If we can pick him up on the cheap I think between Rafa and Carra they could make him a good CB. He's got the physical attributes but as others have mentioned needs to sort himself off the field.

"Cash strapped Liverpool" - Who also happen to spending £17m on another defender.
Quite. The fuss which the media have been making lately about our financial situation, when all the other sides in the top four owe more money than we do, is just unreal.

Why?

Because he's seen him play.

I think he's played there once or twice for City. Did he line up in midfield against us at Anfield last season?

It doesn't really sound like an attractive proposition to me though. Maybe I'm being too harsh on him though, dunno.

That's great, but Micah Richards can't defend better than anyone we already possess.

Micah Richards has the worst defensive positioning of any defender I've seen in the league, it is quite a big flaw.

Sideshow Coloccini is much worse. I'd say he's in the top 5 worst Prem players ever.

We were linked with him under GH. Narrow escape there.

Really? He could only have been about 16 then? I doubt he would have even played a first team game

He's 27, so he'd have been in his early twenties.

We're still talking about Micah Richards right?

He's 20

Weirdly, I was saying the same thing to Asim yesterday. Especially if Mascherano gors, could be a good option.

I really hope we sign him.

Ah okay. Got confused there. Sorry all.

And yes Collocini is shite.

On the subject of Richards though he would be a decent enough signing IMO.

In the last year he has slipped a bit into Traore territory (all the attributes but not very good on the field) but I put some of that down to playing in a poor defence and playing out of position. He is a decent RB but not the best CB.

He has looked shakey of late, but nothing playing in a steady team with good experienced players around him couldn't solve.

He's still only 20, £5million just seems too good to be true.

For the player he initially seemed to be, I'd agree, but not for how he performed last season. Still reckon this is worth considering, as Richards looked the biz to begin with, but I'd want some VERY careful enquiries made about his state of mind and general current lifestyle before making a final decision.

Very interesting thoughts there. Could well be suited as a defensive spoiler a la Mascherano. I just can't see Man city letting him go espeically that cheaply. Also, from what Ive seen of him he lacks the game intelligence Rafa likes his players to have. Masch reads the play well.

Well I think as suggested already on a footballing level he would improve just by being part of a better side and in a more suitable position - he doesn't look comfortable at centre back.

On a non-footballing level I agree. If he has off-the-field 'issues' then moving from Manchester to Liverpool is hardly going to make much of a difference unless he has a real desire to change
