I was watching Question Time last night (yes, I know!!!) and there was a Tory MEP on there who told us the following:
An MEP could (up until recently) claim for his or her travel expenses to and from Brussels. Nothing wrong there, until you hear him say that they can claim the first class cost of the travel there. Ok, so maybe they have the right not to travel with the riff raff, until you then hear that they can claim the first class equivalent regardless of whether they travel first class!!
Some MEP's were profitting to the tune of £900 a week on this little "scam".
Oh and did you know that although their expenses are being seriously reined in, they won't be destitute just yet - their salaries will be increased by 45%!!!
