Ex-Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie wants South Yorkshire Police to apologise for the "vilification" he received in the wake of the Hillsborough tragedy.
His lawyers have contacted the force asking for an apology over his "personal vilification for decades", the BBC's Ross Hawkins reported.

Are there no fucking depths this man cannot trawl

Apart altogether from his "Truth" headline he could have saved himself decades of vilification if he had listened to the Taylor report.

Incidentally there were reports of Everton fans getting a rough time from the south yorkshire police last night. Did anyone hear what that was about?

In a perverse way this could turn out to be for the best, because had he just apologised there would have been plenty of his media chums prepared to draw a line and urge everyone else to move on, but this is so spectacularly arrogant and self-obsessed it may well alienate the mainstream for good.

@johnmully1 K MacKenzie said "I'm going to do some TV stuff in a couple of days" ie last Thu/Fri. Nothing. - *That tweet was from last night*

K MacKenzie demanding apology from SY Police for 'years of vilification' over Hillsboro

alex thomson@alextomo
K MacKenzie claims he can't understand why people turned on The Lying Rag. Claims others did same story.

alex thomson@alextomo
What K MacKenzie is not explaining is why he over-ruled his own journalist

alex thomson@alextomo
K MacKenzie says he faces physical danger in Liverpool and police patrols have been stepped up at his home.

alex thomson@alextomo
There was no sign of police at his home when we called there recently.

alex thomson@alextomo
I have the full text of K MacKenzie's Spectator article. He completely fails to explain why he ignored his own staff to write 'The Truth'.

alex thomson@alextomo
K Mackenzie:"Channel 4 has found something to put on its lamentable news programme."

alex thomson@alextomo
K Mackenzie: "...were I to be seen in (Liverpool) I would literally be in mortal danger. I am not exaggerating."

alex thomson@alextomo
K MacKenzie laments being unable to go to a party in Liverpool this autumn because he fears for his life if he went there.

...Saying he's been vilified for his misreporting the disaster when it was the police's fault for lying! PS #notajoke

Kelvin MacKenzie demands Hillsborough apology from police

rw.loader.gif

When I met Kelvin MacKenzie at his large home in Surrey, he was hard at work on the article in which he will disclose he’s instructed his lawyers to demand an apology from South Yorkshire Police.
His lawyers will claim Mr MacKenzie has suffered “personal vilification for decades” as a result of what they say are the mistakes of South Yorkshire Police. He will claim that police patrols around his home have had to be stepped up and speaks of the physical danger he faces in the city of Liverpool.
When Channel 4 News called at his home recently we saw no sign of any police patrols at his home.
Mr MacKenzie accepts that publishing the headline “The Truth” shortly after the disaster, and blaming Liverpool fans wrongly for causing it, was both wrong and a mistake but he claims:
“The people who have got away scot-free are South Yorkshire Police.”
In an article in this week’s Spectator magazine he goes on: “Now I know — you know, we all know — that the fans were right. But it took 23 years, two inquiries, one inquest and research into 400,000 documents, many of which were kept secret under the 30-year no-publication rule, to discover there was a vast cover-up by South Yorkshire Police about the disaster. Where does that leave me?”

Mr MacKenzie will claim the article that many other newspapers ran the same “copper-bottomed” story, and suggests motives for The Lying Rag being singled out by a city:
“Liverpool fans didn’t turn on other media, only The Lying Rag. That has always puzzled me. Was it picked out because the paper had always backed Thatcher, while the city had always been pro-Labour?”
But what is not clear is whether or not Mr MacKenzie can explain why he over-ruled his own staff to write that notorious headline and ignored the advice of the the very senior reporter who wrote the story in much more measured terms.
It is this which marks out The Lying Rag’s coverage from that in other newspapers in the days after Hillsborough, and that headline has ensured that The Lying Rag is boycotted by thousands across Merseyside to this day. Kelvin MacKenzie – and Kelvin MacKenzie alone – wrote that headline and did so against the express advice of reporters deeply involved in the story.
When I called on Mr MacKenzie last week he first appeared at his front door in shorts and tee-shirt, said he was writing his article at that time; he was seated at a computer in a back room as I approached, visible through a small window in the door.
When Channel 4 news asked for an interview Mr MacKenzie told me to “f*** off and declined two subsequent on-camera invitations to explain why he did what he did, against the advice of his own journalists.

Further to Fallon's concerns of last week:

alex thomson@alextomo
@Andy_Beattie Doorstepping's absolute last resort when people refuse all other avenues with pressing pubic interest.

Cool, that was my primary concern at the time (that it would somehow become an acceptable standard), but if he acknowledges that then fair dos. Also, the subsequent actions of the cunt have kind of vindicated Thomson's actions anyway.

It's pathetic that it's so often the worst serial abusers of other people are the ones who whine if they get one idiot coming back and insulting them. MacKenzie is always on Sky's late night paper review, and whenever the topic of twitter comes up, he suddenly becomes a poor little victim, crying about getting a death threat from some lunatic 'in the Merseyside area'. The rest of the time he sits back and laughs his head off at anyone else's misfortunes, telling them all to grow up and get real. No broadcaster should even dream of employing him ever again.

Leeds isn't in South Yorkshire.

I believe they were singing "Where's your statements gone?" and one or two other things. The police laughed at that, the fans thought they were laughing at the tragedy and kicked off at them for it, whereupon the police waded in.

Thats great from the Everton fans though, it's great to see how Merseyside really sticks together over this issue.

He's a lying disingenuous despicable jowly cunt who's simply trying to divert attention from himself because he's too much of a coward to face the music. Lowlife shithouse.

I'm almost certain they gave a rendition of Justice for the 96 towards the end of the game too

They did, posted this in the wrong thread earlier:

The Everton fans sung justice for the 96 during the game.

After the game the police had batons out as they channeled them away from the stadium & the fans sung where's your statements gone & Yorkshire Police are murderers.

The police response was to laugh at them, then when the fans kicked off at them for laughing they charged them.

Nice stuff from the Everton fans. A typically shit response from the coppers

Having a pint with my bluenose cousin.

There was murder outside the ground, Everton fans were singing "Yorkshire police, murderers" and the police waded in with batons.

Don't give a fuck if its the wrong police force or not, clearly shows they are with us on this. Big respect to them.

Blud.

It does not matter what Kelvin wants - the truth is that he 'wanted' the police story to be true. You know the feeling everyone ? - you know somethings not the right thing to do but you still do it becasue it gives you a buzz - like taking a drug. In his case he really did not give a f*ck if the police were telling the truth or not really - he wanted a story to tell to incite the public against LFC supporters so that he could sell his papers, all he needed was someone with the authorities to say something and like a filthy dog to a bone he decided to bite into it. C*NT !!!

Already been said, but the reason he was vilified was not because of the fact of what was said by SYP, all the newspapers went with the story, it was the way he portrayed the story and THAT headline.

Fuck you McKenzie, you have spent your life belittling others and riding roughshod over people who you deem insignificant in your quest to be a total cunt.

Here's where you get yours, you whining, fat, whopping thundercunt.

Anyone know how to get in touch with this cunt?

I'm think an email campaign, with copies & details passed to all major media & print outlets.

Politely worded, along the lines of

'whist we disagree that you share no sense of blame or responsibility for the vile lies spread byvthe paper you edited, the compensation that you seek would be very beneficial to the Hillsborough charities which you will find listed below.

I'm sure that you'll instruct your council to have any monies received sent to those charities. '

The pressure on him to do so will pile up & he'll have little choice. Stop this twat gaining a penny.
