Really wanted Newcastle down and Sunderland up but this changes it a little. Extremely surprised he has gone there.

Same here, wanted Sunderland up as they buy our players, unlike Newcastle. That may change though with Rafa there...😀

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez EXCLUSIVE*: ‘I can’t wait for the Tyne-Wear derby. Big Sam, I’m coming for you!’

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez* has sent a warning to his new Tyne-Wear opponent and long-term rival Sam Allardyce, telling the Sunderland boss – ‘I’m coming to get you!’

Benitez was confirmed as the Magpies’ new head coach on Friday after the long-awaited sacking of Steve McClaren.
The Spaniard’s arrival at St James’ Park reignites and old feud with Allardyce, who first sparred during Benitez’s days at Liverpool and which continued with comments in the Black Cats boss’ autobiography published last year.

Allardyce slammed Benitez, saying the ex-Reds boss doesn't deserve credit for Liverpool's famous Champions League final win in Istanbul.
And, speaking EXCLUSIVELY on the Weekend Sports Breakfast, Benitez fuel the fire between the two Premier League managers, saying: “The feeling is very mutual between me and Big Sam.
“I don’t like him and he doesn’t like me.
“The problem for him is that I was very successful. I’ve won trophies and Big Sam, I don’t think he’s ever seen a trophy before.
“I cannot wait for the Derby because big boy, Big Sammy, I’m coming for you!”

It isn't Rafa by the way.

It is impressionist Darren Farley, ahem, new Magpies boss Benitez joined talkSPORT for an exclusive interview

Is there a video of him saying 'C'mon Toon Army!' or whatever it was?

I just can't imagine it.

Proof that managers will say any old shite to get the fanbase to warm to them. Klopp didn't. In fact he was quite vocal about being underwhelmed by the fans and Anfield since he's been here - which is fair enough. We say it all the time.

Hopefully Leicester will get a goal in the first twenty minutes tonight, which will be the cue for 'The Best Fans in the World' to start heading to the exits, whilst chanting 'You don't know what you're doing' and 'Rafa out'.

One difference between him and the Wally with the Brolly though is that Rafa won't give a hoot.

The team might even might get something out of that game if they do what he tells them to.

I guess I won't be the only one tuning into the Leicester-Newcastle game today.

I hope Leicester win. Benitez or no Benitez, I'd love Newcastle to go down and Leicester to pull away from the chasing pack.

Interesting. Is a residual affection for Benitez enough to colour opinion about the team he manages? I suppose that question is rather dictated by how much affection you have for Benitez, measured against how much you hate the team he manages.

For example, I wished him no success at all at Chelsea, while still being slightly annoyed at how their moronic fans treated him. And I wasn't averse to see him succeed at Real, despite my antipathy towards Ronaldo, their fans and the club in general, but that's largely because I hate Barcelona even more.

But Newcastle? I mean, they're annoying and amusing in equal deluded amounts, but they're largely an irrelevance. They've never been a genuine threat to us, or our goals for 20 years, and even when they were flirting with title challenges, we still beat them anyway.

Yeah, Ashley is a total twat.....but I dunno. It's difficult really. I still like Benitez and wouldn't want him to get relegated....but it's Newcastle and it would be funny.

But not as funny as Fat Sam going down instead. There. Mind made up.

Top musings.

It's got to be Leicester getting cheered on tonight, them dirty spurs bastards are only 2pts behind!

I find the Spurs hate really strange. I know it's only a few people, but after United, Chelsea, Everton and maybe Arsenal, there's surely then a HUUUUUUUGE drop-off in the next tier of "obvious teams to fucking hate".

Spurs? Pfffft.

Yeah, Spurs really piss me off. They invented the 'Fat Spanish Waiter' tag, as I remember – their fans give it loads about us, as if we've ever considered them a proper rival rather than a bunch of fucking twats with delusions of grandeur. Would hate to see them win the league.

I have always found Spurs fans incredibly annoying, which has placed them above Arsenal in the hate league. In fact it's only in recent years that Chelsea have overtaken them in that respect.

With that in mind I can't stomach the thought of Spurs winning the league, so by default I'm rooting for Leicester I guess.

I hope Benitez does keep Newcastle up though.
