McClaren Dead Man Walking At Newcastle - Benitez first choice

It would be naive to expect any incoming manager to take much notice of it, but look at the way they treat the ones on the way out - I've no time for McLaren, but sheesh, what a classless club, basically leaving him to monitor the media to find out what's happening whilst he's still taking training sessions. Just a horribly run club.

Except they never win against Sunderland no matter how shite they've been. Sunderland have won the last 6 games and not lost since 2011.

They'll have to win 4, maybe 5 of these games.
Lots of six pointers there. 5 of the 9 games are against other sides that make up the bottom 6.

The only fear I have with Rafa taking over Newcastle is that there is a chance that he might take them to the next level.
They've got a good young squad but are lacking in the defensive department and that's Rafa's expertise.

I don't know. It's a total basket-case of a club. Although it does depend what you mean by next level. They came fifth under Pardew once, before the inevitable implosion.

Yep, Swansea look a bit better now and Norwich away could be tough for them. Crystal Palace will end their run off bad form sooner or later.
Newcastle would be a decent bet to go down with or without Rafa.

Ballague has just said Rafa wasn't interested in taking it on until the end of the season, he wanted a multi year deal. Wonder if he'll feel the same way in the championship. Their next 2 games are Leicester and then Sunderland.

He's disclosed today the teenwolf has a 30mill release clause in his contract and that Madrid are going back in for him in the summer. So we'll see if old ballbag knows anything then.

That's been reported multiple times by multiple people on multiple platforms, so if it does happen, it's hardly any indicator of anything other than lots of people had said it.

Well shit, hopefully they stay up now. We might be able to offload half a dozen players onto them, starting with Lucas.

For Newcastle it is a bit like getting Klopp.

It's a quite amazing coup, really. From fucking Sam Allardyce, Alan Pardew, John Carver and Steve McClaren to Rafael Benitez? Who has managed Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Napoli? Who has won two La Liga titles, a European Cup, an FA Cup, A Europa League, a UEFA cup, and Coppa Italia?

It's fucking incredible. He's won more trophies than Newcastle have in their entire 124 year history.

Yeah it's a coup for them obviously. Happy the Chelsea hate didn't spread north.
Will be interesting to see if they buy into his philosophy.

The only question really is who he will fall out with first, the fans or the owner.

You can see why he took the job. They are a big club and with some time and money they could do well. Sadly for him, I doubt he will be given either in the way that he wants.

Why would it? Chelsea hated him because of the Liverpool - Chelsea rivalry when he was our manager, and his often disparaging remarks about them and also Mourinho.

Newcastle were never on his radar, or ours, we just used to regularly batter them.

As for his philosophy, I don't think they'll care if he keeps them up and they start winning games again. It's one thing not liking Pardew, or moaning about Allardyce's style of football, it's quite another when it's Benitez. Mind you.....they are Newcastle fans, so who knows?

I don't want this to happen at all. Rafa , to me is very likeable and I've always held out for him to return here some day and it was bad enough that it was going to be sullied by the Chelsea lot but now Newcastle too ? He's like one of those formerly impressive comedians that now resorts to stints In those comedy clubs attached to those shit Australian themed bars..
