You can do this with 433 just the same, it becomes 4141 when defending. Mourinho's Chelsea would do it all the time.

And in fact 4231 really becomes 4411 when defending. The lone link man doesn't usually slot into the midfield too well.

With 4141 you have two banks of four defending and an extra roaming DM to back up whoever is defending zonally.

I just think we fit better with 4231, Lucas and Spearing make a neat deeper two, it allows Meireless to be right up behind the striker and Suarez and Kuyt to be able to drop deep to collect the ball without Carroll being isolated as Meireless is further up.

I also think 4231 allows you more width, as you're sitting two allow your full backs to get up more

I'd prefer to see a flexible 433, but with Spearing, who clearly has the greatest defensive capacity given the opportunity to play the DM role.

Also it would clearly best suit Suarez and Kuyt playing wide forward roles.

The fullbacks are just as important in a 433 - you don't usually get the two attacking midfielders going forward together anyway, so you can still sort of have the two defending midfielders.

Tevez has scored 41 goals in 58 games for Man City playing up front on his own. He's an absolute superstar.

I love Sexuarez, but he's going to have to be some player to be a "better goalscorer" than that mate.
