Babel a whisker away from a fantastic goal, On left, comes inside and blasts over. He's done well this evening.

Here comes Torres

Maybe not.

Skrtel coming on instead

I think the big Kyrgi was suffering from cramp but appears to be ok now...the turtle has sat back now.

Kurgi has won everything in the air.

I thought Spearing, Babel and degen and Ngog all did very well in the second half. If Ngog carries on more like this he may have a sliver of a chance as a backup striker.

Defensively looked poor again although that could be down to dossena, as that is were all Leeds' attacks came from.

A much better second half probably becuase we used the ball better and had some composure with it. Mad decision to swap babel and Reira, but a win is a win I suppose.

Had a decent game for the most part.

Post-match thoughts.

Babel perhaps has a future with Liverpool on the right. Play him there more Rafa.
David "Wash" N'gog doesn't impress me but has a knack of scoring goals.
Leeds are a building a decent side. Snodgrass and Beckford look good players.

Enjoyable game, and we're through. Fifth consecutive victory. Nice goal by Wash. Third consecutive decent performance by Babel. Only positives really...

I thought we did pretty well given the unfamiliar line up and a Leeds team playing as high tempo as that (they'll probably collapse at the weekend). Babel deserves praise - he worked really hard. Mascher needs a psychiatrist - lots of silly little tussles, the obligatory wild shot and some poor passes. The likes of NGog and Spearing will really benefit from that experience.

I was impressed with N'Gog. In the past he's struggled against aggressive defenders, but tonight he was up front on his own, at times with little support, and really put himself about. Whoever said his all round game needs work is certainly right - he still plays within himself at times and needs to be a bit smarter and more aware of what's around him. That said, his little flicks and tricks coupled with his coolness in the penalty box shows that there is talent there to work with. He could become a good squad player for us if he develops well.

Degen's performance was a nice surprise. I thought he got forward very well and there wasn't too much to complain about defensively. On the opposite flank, I thought Dossena was awful again. He's always a second too slow, no anticipation, no awareness... what a dreadful buy.

Spearing didn't let anyone down. I thought he looked a little off the pace in the first half, but as the side grew into the game, so did he and for a while in the second half, he was in through ball heaven. Good player and has earned the chance to continue in the first team squad and maybe get a sub appearance at some point.

moment of madness there from mash, had the ref seen it he would have been off. who says blind refs doesn't have benefits

I think you and I have been on the N'Gog bandwagon since that goal against Rangers?

Wiley was poor (again). Still, at least his incompetence ended up affecting both teams rather than just us.

ngog has a funny voice.

I know, listening to him you'd think he was 50

All in all that was a decent match.

Games like this can be tricky and the main point is getting through, but we do have other positives from tonight.

Cavalieri looked solid enough, Degen played well (his going off injured is of course a given), great finish and overall performance from N'gog, the greek did pretty well, Babel looked good and Spearing certainly showed he is capable of playing in the first team.

Obviously Leeds are a lower division club but this result still has to improve the confidence of the fringe players.

An obvious downside is Mascherano acting like a bit of a twat. Oh, and Dossena is still not very good is he?

To be fair to him, their player (Snodgrass?) was pretty good quick and tricky. But yes, he seemed way off the pace and unsure of his position.

I don't think 'the doss' will get another chance till the next league cup game.

I think/hope that game has done Babel the world of good.

On another note, Gary Birtles is soooooo pedestrian as a co-commentator.

That was one of our most enjoyable matches in ages. Really enjoyed that.

N'gog did well, Babel looked good in stages. Spearing was decent enough too - there is no reason to play Lucas ahead of him.
