We have been linked with a number of centrebacks but we still have a pretty good one who's been out of sorts this season. It's easy to forget he was our player of the season the season before this but was that season the exception to the norm? I thought Skrtel was dropped too soon and not given a chance to reclaim his spot. Perhaps he doesn't suit Rodgers' system but he is strong, quick and pretty good in the air. He also formed a good partnership with Agger so should we really sell him?
 
If we get a 10-15 million pound offer, I'd consider it if we sign Papa (or a defender of his ability and age that needs to play every week). If we're going to be looking at Kolo and that kid from Sporting, I'd definitely keep Skittles.

I honestly don't know what to make of Skrtel sometimes. He had his moments when he singlehandedly manhandled Drogba in a match, and other moments when he's so comically off the pace that he looks a pub player. For a man with this many tats and a mean lean look, he's surprisingly a confidence player.
 
I'd sell Martin depending on price and replacement. Good price and a great replacement will ease the pain. 🙂

If he stays, he needs to get back to last seasons level or better. He may have been harshly treated and viewed but its up to him to roll up his sleeves and do the business.
 
I think he's been harshly judged for years. I've always thought he was a very good centre back and has generally been very good for us. I'll be the first to admit he's been poor this season, but it's not as if Agger has been miles better. I'm not for too much chopping and changing and I like him, so I'd like us to keep him. That being said, if a very, very good offer comes in, it would be hard to refuse.

I voted 'depends'.

If Rodgers doesn't really like him for whatever reason and he's just going to sit on the bench / in the stands I'd just sell him and replace with someone else.
 
I voted 'Yes' because the depends option is a statement of the obvious.

I don't think he's a bad player at all, but he hasn't really kicked on and Rodgers doesn't seem to rate him so at his age best to sell up and move on to a (hopefully) more promising player like this Greek fellow.

I'd be happy with £12-16m for him and Coates - so maybe £8m minimum for Skrtel.

I wouldnt sell for less than 10 mil, hes a good defender (at times) but hes never developed the consistency of a top class defender and at this point hes past the stage in his career where we are likely to see a considerable improvement. If we can bring in a younger player who can do what Skrtel cant, play the ball out from the back and win a high percentage of aerial challenges, then yes I think its time to make that change

If you were offered a player as you described would you pay more than 10m and 80k a week for him ?

I like Skrtel, I think hes a good centre back, and our defence over the years USUALLY competes with the top 4 sides in terms of clean sheets, goals conceeded etc.
However, Mr Rodgers doesnt seem to want to play him, so he cant rate him, so there is no point keeping him. If we are signing a good quality replacement with little or no monetary loss then its a no brainer, but doesnt the same go for every single player in every squad in the world if the manager doesnt think they are good enough. Skrtel can go for what we can get for him or sit and devalue on the bench.

I dont know enough about the replacements we are linked with to judge, but I hope we get a dominant CB to compliment Agger, I also hope we keep Coates or sign another CB. Agger cant be relied upon for a whole season, so we need someone competent to back that up.
 
Voting 'depends' is always the right choice obviously 'cos you're neither right nor wrong. But it's not a plan.

I voted No, we can't be getting rid of defenders. According to Fudgie he's in his plans. Just get the trainers to work on his shit side as he's shown enough in the past to be decent.

Can't be changing half the team every season.
