I don't get the Martin O'Neill hate...is it because of the Barry saga? or did I miss something?!
It's the trackies.
I thought the people of Liverpool would love that.
Ron Hill trackies are just wrong.

Must be and if so its stupid.

He would do a good job here.
Would he?

We'd all want him out after half a season cos he plays shit football, and he's not a great man manager, and ....
Villa have been bout 20 times more enjoyable to watch that us this season.
Really?
They been their usual self, finish 6th full of average British players while we been rubbish, not been much in it. No point gettig MON when he clearly isn't anything better than Rafa, if we are to change manager then surely a change must be a for a better manager. If we get MON then it will be out of desperation.

The more I look at who's being discussed, the more I favour the idea of the King caretaking for a spell until we can line up someone we really can have confidence in.

Agree, if it's going to cost so much to get rid of Rafa then would rather get the right man then pay money to a temporary solution.

O'Neill only works on 12 month rolling contracts anyway, so no issue there.
His teams have always been shit to watch in my opinion, and whilst he is an excellent man manager, his hyped reputation in England astounds me. He has managed to match what Gregory & O'Leary achieved at Villa whilst spending a lot more than them. Crazy.

In more competitive times.

I don't want O'Neill anyways.

And bringing in Daglish fills me with dread.

I keep saying this...I don't want him, but to say he has only achieved what O'Really and Gregory had done, is not quite accurate. He has increased Villas points haul year on year since he has been there, and moved them up to the next quartile in the Premier League.

Randy Lerner has just confirmed that O'Neil is staying at Villa.

Deadly Doug = Lethal Lerner ?

The plot retains its consistency.......

You say things are more competitive now, I disagree.
The Premiership has always been a competitive league.

Not when Chelsea , and City were Villa's usual bed-fellows.

I keep having to put the caveat on this that I don't want him, but I wonder what MON would have done inheriting Houlliers squad and spending £88m?

We certainly wouldn't have signed Torres, but then we wouldn't have signed a dozen crap full-backs either.

Yeah, now it's *more* competive.

Spurs have spent a shit load for years and it's finally paid off.

City we all know about

Everton have improved loads under Moyes

Fulham are in a European Cup final, ffs.

All the with the old 'big four' makes the Premier League the toughest it's been in my life time.

Lerner confirms O'Neill to remain with Villa

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner has confirmed that Martin O'Neill will remain in place as manager at Villa Park next season, following talks between the two men.

Irishman O'Neill has been fending off rumours about a possible exit for several weeks, despite guiding Villa to sixth place in the Premier League this season, as well as them reaching the Carling Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals.

Those reports have now been put to bed with Lerner saying: "I think next year will be exciting and worthwhile and I look forward to it.

"Martin will be back next year managing. It has already been settled.

"He and I spoke on a number of occasions in person and over the phone. Yesterday (Tuesday) I dragged him out of a series of meetings with chief executive Paul Faulkner trying to get plans for the summer underway.

"We feel very good about that because it represents continuity for the players and in many other ways."

Meanwhile, O'Neill is reported to have told Curtis Davies, Luke Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell, Nicky Shorey and Habib Beye that they will be allowed to leave the club this summer if the right offer comes in.

Spurs are not in the CL yet mate, I wouldn't say it has paid off completely just yet.
Sky put up a list of possible opponents in that 3rd qualifying round and they are going to have to avoid some tricky, tricky teams to get through. Fulham are in the same final the 'Boro appeared in. A few years ago Newcastle were in the CL too. So some teams have peaked and dropped off but there has always been competition for the CL places and right throughout the league in general.

Yes O'Neill has improved Villa, he has made them a stronger team. But he has done it by spending a lot of money and paying top whack for English talent in Milner, Downing & Young. I can see some positives to him and his style of man management but I don't want him managing Liverpool, no chance.

I don't want MoN to replace Rafa. Rafa is a better coach. Replace Rafa with a better coach or give him another season for the sake of stability.

I think Ross has mentioned this a few times, but Villa are in for a fall at some stage.

Lerner's not the fucking charitable donator Villa fans first thought, and plenty of rumours have been coming out about him wanting some return. I can't see O'Neill hanging around there forever.

So has Fallon explained why he decided that O'Neill was a 'pikey'?
*firestarter*
