Despite all the rumours, and how many fans view Ming, Klopp repeatedly says that we are not in the market for a 'keeper and that our current options are more than good enough.

The press don't seem to believe that at all. So what do you think? Is he lying?

By the way, I also completely agreed on what he said this week when asked about Marc-André ter Stegen and Timo Horn.

To paraphrase: Good 'keepers, yes, but all keepers make errors and it's easy to think that another 'keeper is better than what you have if you don't watch them regularly.

I reckon that, while players are fit, Klopp will not say that they need replacements. But I reckon he'll be looking for people in all positions.

I'm not sure a keeper is top priority though. I reckon a pacey striker and a DM are higher in the list.

The bolded bit seems an overstatement to me. He was complimentary about Ming in particular, but if I remember rightly he said Ming was as intelligent a keeper as he'd worked with, which suggests to me that he actually thinks there is a need for him to exercise that intelligence in order to improve.

Gerry's summary of the situation is a good one IMO.

What's this got to do with Mario Balotelli?

In any case, it's half right. Balotelli can fuck off forever, but our current options are not good enough

Anyone requiring a reminder of the sort of curate's egg of a display that is Mignolet's norm, need look no further than last night. One or two very good saves, a piss-weak punch from a cross, a stupid booking for timewasting and totally calamitous positioning from a late corner that they should have scored from. It was like watching David James.

Perhaps it was an overstatement. I was thinking of this quote: "our gk situation is absolutely more than ok".

I agree on Gerry's summary, which represents the logical and rational view as always.

If our three problem areas are Goalkeeper, DM, Striker, then goalkeeper is third on the list of urgency.

Incidentally Ming strikes me as someone who doesnt have a lot in the brain department. His booking last night was just plain crazy.

I don't think it's that. Klopp says he's an intelligent lad and TBH that's how he's come across to me when I've seen him interviewed. His confidence, or more precisely his lack of it, is the problem IMO.

It's not the first time he's done that recently. He was carded for the same thing a couple games ago. The only logical explanation is that he's been instructed to waste time.

I think we are looking for a new GK but I can't see how Klopp can say so in public.

Ming is hardly the strongest character mentally and so to say you're after a new GK publicly would likely cause him to retreat further into his shell and be even less confident (if that's at all possible) than he already is. Klopp's just got to keep "bigging him up" in the short term to keep whatever confidence Ming does have in place until we can get someone better

Yeah thats absolutely spot on

He has a degree in political science so he's probably not that daft.

You have to be more cautious when responding to GK speculation as a manager. Any other position you can argue we are looking to improve that area of the squad, but with GK's it usually a case of one first choice keeper in, old first choice keeper out. That's unlike the other positions where players are often kept for the squad. That said, I don't think Klopp is playing it especially smart. It's very rare for any manager to comment on speculation or transfer plans so it's a bit of a non issue for me. I do think we are considering replacements - I hope so, but I also share that view for about 6 other players.

Mignolet isn't a problem, in fact there aren't that many problems with this team at all, well besides from one, one massive glaring problem, and that's goals, the only reason other areas look a little flaky is because they're under constant pressure through our inability to take our chances and control games.

Ignore the strikers, the root of this issue comes from three of my favourite players, Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino, all three of them are very good (give Firmino time), and are often the catalysts when we play at the top of our game, however the awkward truth is that they don't produce anything near enough end product, Lallana being the most culpable. These three need to be scoring 20-30 goals between them, we'd be lucky to get 10, we badly need to address this, whether that's done by Klopp sorting them out and changing how they place, or by replacing one of them with a goalscorer I don't know, but if we don't start getting more goals out of them, we aren't going anywhere.

On a side note, I truly believe that if Klopp persists with Firmino as a false nine in the 4-1-2-3 formation for 5 or 10 games, then we'll start seeing a very decent goal return from him.

But Reina making mistakes during his first three years wasn't much of a concern because we knew how brilliant he was and that his errors weren't usually caused by being a weak gimp, or from being a professional player with the game intelligence of the lowest of amateurs.
All keepers make errors. But Ming not knowing when to kick short, being to scared to fight for the ball for crosses, being slow off his line, not having the quickness of mind and bottle to start quick counter attacks, having the kicking power of a 13 year old are all traits of a seriously shit footballer.
Good shot stopper. That's it.

Sure, but the point is not about the 'keepers we watch week in and week out. It's about the ones who we never watch yet seem to think are substantially better than ours.

My point is that our keeper is substantially shite. Thus there are many better than him.

There's book smart and there's street smart.

I was also gonna comment that you don't have to smart to obtain a degree in political science. It's like getting a degree in HR.

I can't judge how good Mignolet is yet because he is still being trained by Achterberg. Maybe he is an excellent keeper. Achterberg have so far turned everyone of our keepers to shit ones.

I blame him more than I blame our keepers.

Achterberg has been kept on staff by the same five managers that Lucas has.

I know Balotelli did not score goals we wanted from him, but I think it is worth thinking if he could play in Klopp's system, I mean he did move more than Benteke, and I am sure he was faster. We are in a desperate moment with the injuries - lets be honest - our priority is:-

1) One CB - temporary even
2) A temporary striker that provides more movement than Benteke

I agree with Klopp - we actually have talent in this squad so why do we need to buy more players at this stage of the season. Crazy I know - but think about it for this second half of the season.
