Madrid have en masse. Can't speak for individuals as I've just seen the results, not watched the games

La Liga has gone mental this year. Barca dropping points seemingly every other game, Real Madrid struggling and Alaves top of the league!

Possibly something to do with a world cup hangover? I ask that as an honest question, cos don't know enough about the make ups of the squads to know for sure.

It's had a definite effect on the Premiership teams, but the big sides have more or less found a way to win despite not hitting the same heights they usually do.

I think this is a major explanation. But Madrid also miss Ronaldo and Barcelona are also suffering from relatively poor squad depths.

I think Madrid are struggling PR (post Ronaldo).
That team was set up a certain way - for him.
NOw they have a new manager - integrating a ton of young Spanish players more regularly, a slight GK controversy and a star tailsman who wants to be at Inter (Modric) - and things just aren't clicking.
They've actually been poorer than us when I've watched, and they're playing in La Liga.

barca on the other hand seem to have just been arrogant - as if they'll stroll the league (Messi now out with broken forearm)

City don't seem to be having a problem hitting their 2017/18 heights !

I think what is happening in the Spanish league has two possible underlying reasons:-

1) Conspiracy to show that it is a competitive league - which we all know it is not.
2) They are suffering in terms of player identification - like the rest of the world - how many world class strikers are there ? - where and who is the next superstar we can spend mega dollars on to make us look great. These questions are fucking hard in these hard times. Look at us with Keita.

I think he is a shit player that would look good in our team because we lack creative passing.

I don't buy into any conspiracy. To that these Clubs are way to powerful. Their heirtage put them on top of the Food Chain, and they will not even pretend that they don't belong there.

However it is more interesting to look at the player identification. They have had Ronaldo leading their line for so long, and With success. to a degree that they have probably got a bit stuck in how to build and balance the squad. In the first few games when they looked quite good it was easy to point at Bale and Benzema and others got more space to shine without Ronaldo, but none of them is near him in extreme quality. You don't replace such an asset over night, and Real doesn't have anyone who can fill that superstar position in short term. Maybe in longer terms you can find a new superstar but there are no guarantees. So they are basically stuck with a combination of solid but not spectacular "stars" and younger up and coming Spanish potentials. Their Squad is probably good enough to compete for La Liga if their manager gets his act together, but in good Real M style they will probably fire him sooner rather than later and hence they have to restart their season which is not easy. They probably have some mental and physical fatigue after that CL run last few seasons combined With the world cup and also the everlasting "Should i stay or not" from Ronaldo.

City has started impressive. I don't know for certain but it might be a factor that they were out of the CL early last season, and With the League wrapped up they had a chill end to the season. Their targets were more to gain the 100 Points and with the Squad Depth they had, compared to us i.e. they probably could rest more in between the battles, giving them fresher mental and physical batteries now. They also didn't change much on the Squad over the summer which mean they are more established in their game than i.e. us that have to work to implement new People into central mid, which is by far the most demanding position in a Klopp system. So far they have not played to much, the new personell, but you have to assume it takes a lot of focus on the training field.

The problem with RM is top managers don't want to manage them, way too much pressure, expectation and a lot of intrusion from the President. Why didn't Zidane want to stay a few more years at the most successful and largest club in the world?

Presumably because he realised Ronaldo had dragged a mediocre side to 4 CL titles and as soon as he knew he was off then he'd get found out.

Since when did VAR get implemented in La Liga?

This season right?

I've watched 2 Real Madrid games.. and in both, VAR intervened, to rightfully rule out 3 Madrid goals which were pivotal in swinging the momentum of a game. Also, VAR rightfully awarded the opponents a penalty.

I reckon VAR is wiping out the "Madrid bias" with officials and it's partly affecting their results. In seasons, gone by, they would have got those calls and won those games.

I wonder whether it would be a good idea in the PL? Usually it works in favour of the small clubs, who usually get decisions go against them.

He will go for double that and city will probably sign him, unless we offer one of the front 3 for him.
