I'm losing even more patience with Benitez. Patience I didn't think I had.
I'm not sure how you can blame Rafa for the players playing so shitly... how many times have they given the ball away cheaply?!? Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel are all capable, but not when the ball never gets to them...
Negative players, negative tactics, negative substitutions. Negative all round. He'll be happy with nil nil here I reckon too.
Negative subs?!? Torres, Yossi and Aqui are all attacking players. We've had most of the ball and spent most of the time in their half. We are passing like schoolboys
Is correct.

People really should think before they spout such rubbish. We've gone out to win this game from the first whistle.

Taking Kuyt off and leaving the hapless Lucas on was a dreadful decision. Lucas was atrocious and a liability. But he stays on at the expense of one of the few goal threats we have.

It's up to Benitez to gee the players up to a certain extent, to get the tactics right, to work on attacking, penetrative, incisive football. When this season have we looked like an incisive team? I'd say at a push 3 or 4 times. That is pathetic. And Benitez doesn't look capable or perhaps even willing to change it.

A draw was the right result - neither team really deserved to win.

Mind you, if Yossi had gone down after being clipped by Richards, we'd have had a penalty and probably all three points. Shame he's too honest - Gerrard or Torres would have hit the ground straight away.

The referee mainly.

Not knowing what the fuck was going on or why.

Agger playing like shit.

Skrtel being a shithouse.

that was amature at times, didnt seem to be any sort of plan at all going forward. Skertl and Mascher werent just our best players they were really our only decent players, I lost count of the amount of times we gave the ball away. Often with no pressure on the passing player, it was frighteningly poor, not a single decent chance after the header from Skertl, people can say that this isnt Rafas fault but he has set his team up to play like this, I actually think he will view this as a positive result/performance, its nothing of the sort.

City now reamin ahead of us with games in hand, we are rapidly running out of games to turn this season around. I know were have only lost 1 game in the last 8 or whatever but there are still too many dour negative draws, Rafa seem to have learned absolutely nothing from last year, draws are what cost us the title and this year they will cost us 4th, playing for a point when there are 3 available is far too negative an approach for this league

Torres is nearing fitness again but honestly what can he do in a team that cant keep the ball have no attacking game plan

I'm tired of the lack of imagination.
I'm tired of the lack of movement.
I'm tired of the shit sideways passing.
I'm tired of the long balls from defence.
I'm tired of the two defensive midfielders.
I'm tired of the painfully slow 'sprint squad'.

If there's any reason why I want Rafa gone it's because I'm simply tired of watching us play (shit football).

Skrtel was the boss today.
Lucas played a fair few crisp passes.
And Aquilani was shocked to be on the pitch and it showed

I agree with this and with Ibromurph's sentiments. Not too arsed about playing attractive football, but some indication that we can actually carve out A DECENT CHANCE from time to time would be nice.

But true nonetheless.

We were guilty of many things today but "being too negative" just isn't one of them. To claim otherwise is just thoughtless.
It was just bizarre. We got a yellow card for EVERYTHING.

Other than that, the ref was pretty sharp so not a case of bad eyesight etc. Also seemed to take great pains NOT to send any of ours off esp. Mascherano, despite the yellow fever.

It wasn't positive though. It was pathetic and has been symptomatic of our performances all season. It's a shambles. We get up to the 18 yard box, sideways pass, sideways pass, slow the attack down, lose the ball, opposition launch counter attack.

I'm fucking sick of it. We have NO ideas. That is my gripe. And it doesn't even show signs of change.

ha- well said! And also on the plus side, I get 3 points for a correct prediction in the prediction league.

How do you like those apples Richey, huh?

Torres got a yellow for nothing! So did Agger who got the ball.

1 Chelsea 27 61
2 Man Utd 27 57
3 Arsenal 27 55
4 Man City 26 46
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 Liverpool 27 45
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6 Aston Villa 26 45
7 Tottenham 26 43

A draw was the best thing we could have expected out of that match. It was the usual current combination of heroic defending and ponderous, toothless attack.

Although we would have got a penalty if Yossi had gone down instead of struggling to stay on his feet when he was clearly tripped in the penalty area.

My stream went so I missed watching the last twenty minutes or so.

While it was far from a great performance it was a battling one and if either team deserved to win I believe it was us.
It is great to see, after so many apathetic performance earlier in the season, the fire seeems to be back in the player's bellies.
Todays game could well have been won with one act of brilliance, the type that Nando has provided for us so often.

With him and other players coming back from injury I am now optimistic that we will finish in forth place. fingers crossed smiley

That's not the point, though, is it.

City have beaten United, Chelsea and Arsenal at their stadium this year. We've gone there understrength and picked up a draw.

It's not as bad as people seem to want it to be.

Good point I reckon.

Poor game.

Awful performance by Agger. He looked knackered in the end and I must admit I fear he could've been playing through a pain-barrier again. Luckily for him and us Skrtel was the man today. Easily MOTM to the big Slovak.

Lucas was FAR better than what seems to be the opinion in this thread. I'm simply amazed with the ammount of criticism on him. He was one of our best performers overall only shadowed by a few amateurish mistakes. Gerrard for one made dozens of them as well mind and was once again far, far from his best.

I can't believe how defensive-minded Citeh were in this game. WHenever we were on the break they had they penalty-area covered with 8 outfield players at least. Very negative approach at home and we're going to end ahead of them in the table I'm certain.

Fair points KHL but I'm not at all sure we're going to finish 4th. We needed a win today badly.

Lucas was not that bad and is not the only one that could not pass. Mascher, Gerard, Kuyt, Agger, all passed poorly and some nearly got us into trouble.

It's not just today, though, it's all season. It is the same toothless attacking display we've seen all season. Our performances over the course of the season have rendered a nil nil at a decent City side a poor result. They're still ahead of us with a game in hand. It was a game we really needed to win, but we never really looked like doing so.

After Benitez's guarantee of 4th place, I expected a bit of an improvement in performance and results. And while we have recently enjoyed a decent run of form, we still look toothless when the owness is on us to attack. The good results we have had have been as a result of battling, gritty displays. We should be better than that.

It's not so much the performance today I'm having a go at, it's just we've seen the same performance every week. We need it to change if we're going to overtake City. It doesn't look like happening. At all.

We're so feeble in attack that it physically pains me sometimes.

I think the main reason for our attacking FAIL is that everyone seems eager to assist/pass but no one wants to take responsibility to shoot or go past players.

to be frank City defended in numbers. It was always going to be hard to break them down. They are a counter-attacking side as well so swarming their half isn't really the answer either.
