Man Utd: Are they Still Dead Good?

Well Moyes is new, and plays a different brand of football.

But given Rosco has previously explained that managers are irrelevent, and tactics are a fad, I look forward to neither of the above things bearing any relevence, and United romping to another title come next May.

In his defence he did say there were 1 or 2 exceptions to the rule and Fergie was 1 of them.

As for Utd in decline? Well it's obvious thy don't seem to have the same air of invincibility about them as they had under Ferguson however they still have an incredible talents squad who know how to win the league.

Their 1st 3 games, they spanked a good Swansea side, drew against the best squad in the league with 1 of only 2 managers to have won the title twice and lost away to Liverpool where they have struggled more often than not.

Very early to be talking about them falling away, but the initial signs are good.
I had greedily hoped they would be 0/3 from their 1st 3 games and I think if you offered Moyes 4 points from those 3 games he's have taken it.

Let's take another look in 10 games time.

Moyes usually starts the season poorly and they have a very tough run of fixtures at the start, so some problems were inevitable. I can see him struggling for another couple of months and then starting to turn it around by December-January. They will finish 3rd.

Results wise he's always a bit indifferent though, he keeps games tight and for the majority of the time results are the same. RVP might be the difference but his tendency to go defensive against anyone in the top half of the table could be his undoing. Time will tell whether he alters his philosophy now that he's at a bigger club with a better squad.

I think he'll keep them within distance but he doesn't have the experience or know-how of a title challenge. The key will be how much of the original mentality is instilled in the players and the club and the impact losing Fergie, coupled with Moyes revamping the staff, will have on this. If they do struggle, the interesting point will be whether they consider how much time they gave Fergie to get it right, and whether or not they try to get the old bastard back into the fold to try to salvage something.

No, that's never going to happen. On the contrary, I'm sure Fergusson will use his authority to defend Moyes and help him withstand the pressure.

As I highlighted above (http://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/index.php?threads/man-utd-are-they-still-dead-good.37100/#post-992146) - this United squad has many aging or unproven players, very few in their prime and top quality ... I can see them missing out on Top 3 unless they have significant strengthening in the January transfer window (when it will be very difficult to bring in established top quality players).

They'll be up shit creek if RVP gets injured.

Right, this would leave them only with Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito and Kagawa as central attackers - I can't possibly see where the goals are going to come from.

I hope Moyes does well, so that he is in charge when the Vidics, Evras, Ferdinands, RVP, Carrick, Giggs need to be replaced that's when you find out whether he is any good or whether Utd will go the same way as us.

If United are struggling by January the Glazers will have a very difficult decision; support Moyes with a big transfer kitty in the hope he can resurrect their season or feign support but with a limited kitty whilst looking fora replacement for the manager next summer.

Either way has risk, Moyes could splash out and still fail to ignite their season or United fail to achieve a top 4 place and then the new manager struggles to attract the top players next summer because of no CL football.

These are both delightful scenarios and hopefully come to pass 🙂

Of course if United are top 2 by Xmas these points become an irrelevance :-(

None of them are as prolific as RVP, Wellbeck scored one goal last season. Rooney's mind is elsewhere and his form isn't great. Kagawa isn't getting a look in!

Kagawa isn't a CF and neither Welbeck or Chich are in the same class as Rooney or RvP. If RvP is out and Rooney up front it remains to be seen if their mediocre MF can still provide him with the bullets as they did 2 seasons ago.

Kagawa is not a CF, but he is a top-class 2nd striker.

Even without Van Persie they still have a better strike-force than Chelsea. Or Arsenal. Or Spurs.

Rooney was good against chelsea. If rvp was injured rooney would relish the chance to be leading the line again just to prove everyone wrong and show everyone that he should be the main man. Manure are far from finished. Why kagawa isnt getting a look in is a mystery but im glad as he's quality.

Agree with your point but major exaggeration. Last season they were heavily dependent on rvp. Yes they still have good strikers without him, but still the best in the league? I dont think so.

I didn't say they were best in the league.

They wouldn't have won the title this year with Ferguson anyway.
