We'd have played him right of a three-man centre-half setup.
Look, our biggest problem isn't the players although we could have done better with the money spent. It's that we play them in positions where they are not as effective and as a collective they're less than the sum of the parts.
Not sure about that, old pal. Despite the fact that he plays deep, Carrick's defensive play actually isn't up to much. He's excellent running the game from back there, but that defence has benefited big-time from Schweinsteiger's presence in front of them. It's a bit like the situation at Chelski, where Terry - obv.a very good player in many ways - has really benefited from the likes of Makelele or Matic in front of him covering for his chronic lack of pace.
Fair point. Between the two of them they've been absolutely crucial to the Mancs' improvement IMO. I don't think that improvement would have been nearly as marked - if it took place at all - with just Carrick in there.
Either way the balance is good, the three of them are fairly resolute defending and they are all good on the ball. If you've got players like that it gives you a solid backbone.
Largely agree (I certainly don't think a DM is unnecessary, as Rodgers and some on here seem to). I don't rate Carrick defensively TBH, but with someone like Schneiderlin or Pigclimber alongside him he still looks the bizzo.
Maybe, I stopped watching them after they beat Soton 3-2 with 3 shots on target.
They've got so many flaws but LvG has some sort of lucky charm and they just keep getting results.
No comments on the Arsenal - Man U game, anyone? Schweinsteiger-Carrick duo got badly exposed for their lack of pace, Walcott and co. were running rings around them. Darmian got destroyed by Sanchez too.

Amazing how many of us idiots can see the benefits of a good DM in the modern game, and especially in this team, but someone paid millions to coach the team couldn't. Bizarre.
