I just wanted to follow–up to my recent posts as there is due to be some movement this week within Liverpool Football Club and I'd rather post now than after…. I have mentioned previously about 8 members of the current backroom staff would leave (release contracts had been drawn up) and 16 of the players listed as eligible for the 1st team would be moved on as well. The backroom staff movements are scheduled to happen this week with replacements having already been identified and will be brought in before the first of the returning players reconvene the week after. From what I've heard before (of which the position hasn't changed), the replacement manager has already agreed to join but only 7 people know who he actually is, the only thing I know is that he is involved at the World Cup. He has agreed to join on the basis that confidentiality is maintained during the campaign so distractions for the participating players won't become an inevitable issue and if the country he is involved with doesn't perform well then it cannot be blamed on such a distraction. The so called interviews for a replacement should be taken lightly as a sideshow! This coincides with the fact the LFC panel had agreed in favour of a specific ownership transfer and needed ratifying by the existing owners. As I understand it, one of the existing owners agreed to the terms for full and final settlement, the other wanted to negotiate terms to include future trading receipts thereby complicating any sale (to such an extent that it looked like it could be jeopardised). So, the conditions for the purchase of the club were agreed in principle between the parties, allowing a strategy for pre–season activity to be legitimately developed) while the warranties against the purchase pended a negotiated conclusion. While the final negotiations of these warranties have been taking place, other interested parties have also made enquiries and their offers placed to one side for consideration if the warranties cannot be settled.
At the end of this week there is an expectation that ratification of the new ownership would be granted by the relevant football authorities to allow the ink to settle on the ownership contracts the week after.
So, the summary version:
Backroom staff – leavers announced this week, keep an eye out for this.
Backroom staff – Key personnel identified but only publicly installed after the new manager takes residence.
New Manager – Identified and agreed – low profile being deliberately orchestrated.
New Owners – Likely to be finalised (cash for stocks) and announced within 3 – 4 weeks.
Let the press have their say, the doubters have theirs but ultimately we will see in a few weeks time how the cards are truly dealt….
