Luis Suarez pwned by the Lizards and is Staying, and has said sorry to BR and teammates

So, no clause. Lovely.

@Rosco - quick question about something you said.
You say there isn't much time to sell him and that if we do fan pressure may force into knee-jerk transfers and possible mistakes, as has happened before. If he were sold, would you hold off and go through to Jan with what we have?

Barrett says Liverpool are fighting hard to keep Suárez and are unwilling to write him off

Barrett - #LFC do not want and cannot afford to lose a player of world-class ability to the club who occupied the fourth spot last season

Ouch. Bad luck with The Guardian and even worse luck with the PFA.

I'm glad we're keeping the door open because despite acting the cunt this summer I'd be more worried about trying to replace him at this point than any distractions he'll cause.

Tony Barrett's article on Luis Suarez - 'Selling Luis Suárez will make gap to elite that much greater for Liverpool' - Luis Suárez may be desperate not to be part of Liverpool’s future, but his club are in no position to envisage, never mind countenance, life without him.

As unbearable as his continuing presence at Anfield appears to have become to outsiders, those inside the club recognise that his departure, particularly to Arsenal, could spark a new level of unpleasantness, with the gap between Liverpool and the Barclays Premier League elite becoming greater than it already is.

Liverpool are fighting hard to keep Suárez and are unwilling to write him off for one reason — at a time when they are finding it difficult to attract players of the necessary quality to help them to bridge the gap, they can ill afford to lose the one player they have who is most capable of turning an average side into a good one.

For all the hullabaloo that surrounds Arsenal’s offer of £40,000,001 and the hysteria that surrounds Suárez’s contract and its now notorious clause, there is something more basic at play than legal debate and financial argument.
Liverpool do not want and cannot afford to lose a player of world-class ability to the club who occupied the fourth spot in the Premier League last season that they are targeting. They could sell Suárez to Arsenal for £60 million and it would still not make sense.

This is a pivotal battle for Liverpool, the outcome of which will go a long way towards determining whether or not they are able to compete for a place in the top four at any time in the immediate future. Were Suárez to go to the Emirates Stadium it is hard to imagine how Arsenal would not be strengthened and Liverpool not be weakened.

Those who argue that every player has his price are right, but in this case Suárez is the exception that proves the rule. The Uruguay forward is one of a dwindling number of reasons for top-class players to consider joining Liverpool. Lose him and Brendan Rodgers’s war chest may be boosted significantly but who would Liverpool buy, particularly with the summer transfer window into its final month?

This is the reality at Anfield. It is harsh and it is brutal, but it is one that they have no choice other than to confront — and the only way they can do that is by making it clear to Suárez that he will not be allowed to join Arsenal, no matter how hard he tries to force a move.

What a bellend (Suarez). Arsenal and Piers Morgan can fuck right off. Their fans will be calling for Wengers head come transfer deadline day when another window goes and it dawns on them that despite all the talk of having millions to spend they will have spent fuck all.

I don't understand joining Arsenal, he'll get in the champions league which is nice but they're going nowhere. It's not like they're on a huge spending spree and are building a team to challenge for trophies, they look a pretty weak proposition for a player like Suarez to go to.

First Jovetic was in the bag, then Higuain has agreed terms with the Gooners.
If they don't sign Suarez then who are they going to turn to next?

Suarez has been digging his own grave all Summer long.

I was among many others who were quick to defend him: first the Evra incident, then the Fulahm fans thing, then the Ivanovic biting and finally his interviews from the confederation cup. I was one of those who backed him all along.

But in the last couple of weeks he's been showing his true colours, and that Guardian interview was for me the final straw.
Enough is enough.

Suarez is a magnificent football player. One of the best talents I've seen playing for Liverpool football clube in almost four decades of following this club. His antics on the field is part of his character and being a "street cat" is part of his qualities as a footballer.
I was prepared to take all that shit from him, assuming that he truely loved this club, just like all of us.

Unfortunately, this is clearly not the case. He loves Luis Suarez. All the love and support we've been giving him has been discarded by him. He's put all that support behind him and wants to leave for fucking Arsenal! After telling us how poorly he's been treated by the English media he wants to move to Arsenal?! Not English media in London, Luis?

I have no sentiments for him anymore. I only want the best outcome for this club.
I believe we will still benefit if hwe stays for one more year, helping our challenge for a top 4 finish and giving Rodgers more time to identify where to invest the money for strengthening the team.

Sadly, this Suarez affair has made me realize what many had been saying for a long time - football stars are no fans. They don't really give a shit about us fans. It will be a long time before I have any sentiments towards a football player. If at all.

Is that what that journalist on BT sport was on about after the Valerenga match? He said something about his paper having a Suarez story tomorrow but I didn't know who he worked for.

I don't know. If true, we're coming out of this rather well though.

BR on Valerenga, Aspas and Suarez

Brendan Rodgers declared himself delighted with Liverpool's pre-season form after they made it six wins out of six with a 4-1 triumph over Valerenga – but insisted his side can still improve ahead of the new campaign.

Goals from Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Martin Kelly and Raheem Sterling secured a win in Oslo on Wednesday evening to maintain the Reds' 100 per cent record in this summer's friendly games.
Afterwards, Rodgers told his post-match press conference: "I'm delighted with the players at the moment. I don't think they could do anymore.
"I'm disappointed with the goal [we conceded] and I mentioned that at half-time. We're always looking for perfection and to concede from a corner was disappointing.
"Overall, we're in good shape. We're continually working hard and always striving for ways to be better.
"The players have travelled all over the world [this pre-season] - their passports have been well and truly stamped on this pre-season! But their attitude has remained the same.
"We go into our last game at the weekend [against Celtic], which will be a great way to finish off the pre-season in Dublin. I've got no doubt we'll be firing on all cylinders by the time Stoke City comes.
"I'm very pleased with everything, but we must strive to be better."

Rodgers opted to make wholesale changes at half-time in Norway, with only Andre Wisdom playin the entire 90 minutes for Liverpool.
The boss added: "Especially after Steven's testimonial where we got a lot of players 90 minutes, I felt this was a game where we would work it over two 45s. We obviously had a couple of injuries as well, which meant that young Andre Wisdom played 90 minutes.
"The plan worked quite well for us. In the first half we were really bright, sharp and moved the ball well with good control.
"I thought their goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding and made some great saves, but we were very creative.
"In the second half we probably played a little bit too deep for my liking, sometimes when it gets to 3-1 and you feel comfort in the game, it can drop you off a wee bit. But we were still a threat on the counter-attack, created a number of opportunities from that and got a couple more goals, so I can only be pleased with where we're at at this point."
Rodgers was quizzed for his thoughts on the performance of Aspas, who took his tally to four goals so far this summer following his transfer from Celta Vigo.
The manager admitted he has been delighted with the form of Liverpool's new No.9, who also played a major role in Alberto's opener after his attempted chip cannoned against the crossbar before his fellow Spaniard tucked home.

"I thought he was excellent again tonight," stated Rodgers. "When you watch him, his movement is outstanding. If you look at the movement for the second goal, he made his first run when Stewart Downing had the ball.
"The line was blocked for him and he made a double movement to come in again. Obviously he was there to finish. He's a goalscorer, that's the reason we brought him in.
"It was a lovely chip that hit the crossbar [for Alberto's goal] and it eventually came out, and we got a goal from that as well.
"He's a really exciting player and in and around the box he can make things happen. He works his socks off as well. He's done very well over the course of pre-season."
Meanwhile, journalists assembled at the Ullevaal Stadium quizzed Rodgers about Luis Suarez.
The manager replied: "My conversations with players will always remain private. I'll never disclose any conversation between a player and I.
"In terms of the remarks that were made, this is a football club that has always worked a certain way. The Liverpool Way is all about a club with ambition, a club that strives to be the very best, a club that is about commitment - that means that everyone is committed to the cause of fighting for the shirt.
"It's also about dignity and being dignified in how you speak about the club, on and off the field, and it's about unity.
"Those are the four values that run through my mind when I think about Liverpool. Those are the values we will always retain. If anyone steps outside of that standard, I will deal with it. That's something that we'll do.
"It means that we have a standard at Liverpool that I will fight for my life to retain. There will never be any player or person bigger than the club."
Rodgers continued: "Professionally, Luis Suarez has given me everything since I came into the football club, but there is obviously a way in which you have to speak. This is a club that has offered Luis Suarez the utmost respect since the day he walked through the door.
"That's something that over the course of the coming weeks you need to have when you work for Liverpool Football Club. You've got supporters and players that have given Luis Suarez absolutely everything - they backed him to the hilt.
"Even at the weekend, when we had Steven Gerrard's testimonial game, the supporters raised the roof for him. That's something that I will always fight to retain at the football club, because that is what Liverpool is about - respect, humility and real dignity
