Luis Suarez pwned by the Lizards and is Staying, and has said sorry to BR and teammates

I don't like the idea of us selling to them, as they are about as direct a rival as we have next season, but if they want to spend £50m they'll probably spend it on someone, Suarez or not. In *theory* we could be weakening them, relative to their other uses of that money, if we force them to 'overspend' on Suarez.

Bit of a stretch perhaps, but it's still a consideration.
And they'd not have their superstar signing available for the first 6 games (18 points).
Still don't want him to go to them though.

They pay 50 million and get Suarez. We get 50 million and none of us know who we're going to spend it on. We're the only ones being weakened.

I meant they could be weakened compared to the alternative uses that money might have.

What we do is a separate issue. Personally I've always felt that with anything approaching £50m we could sell Suarez and quite easily improve the side, but that's just me.

Cant agree. World Class player. Worth every penny. I cant see him having any of the issues Torres had when he moved. All it does is improve a competitor that has a better squad than us all the while making the gulf between us bigger.

Normally if we were in champions league i'd agree with you. But money or not we can't attract top quality players right now so i can just see that money being spent on more average squad players.

I don't buy this you can't keep an unhappy player either. Modric put in a transfer request, was made to train alone but kept for another season and his performance levels didn't drop.

Havent got a link, but Marca reporting that Suarez isnt an option and that Real Madrid wants to focus on Morata and that they are trying to sign Bale.

When do we play Arse? First 6 games? Hope so or it will be messy

Sent from a mobile device - apologies for any crap

What's the point you two are trying to make ?

You don't need to have even seen his body language to know he wants to leave.

Seeing as Skully isn't around much, I'll take on his mantle. I'm going to break your jaw this weekend!

You're not listening to what I'm saying. I'm just talking in pure theoretical terms to show that even selling to a rival *could* benefit us. Right, just say that there are 2 possible uses for that £50m for us and Arsenal, and we can both take advantage of the alternative equally. Let's say for argument's sake that the alternative is signing Bernard and Higuain. Suarez is worth 7 points to each team, the alternative is worth 10 points. If we keep Suarez and Arsenal sign the other 2, they are 10 points better off than us vis a vis last season. If they buy Suarez and we buy the orhers they are seven points better but we are 3 points better, so their improvement is only 4 points. Therefore in this purely theoretical example we are more competitive with them if we sell them Suarez.

That's all I'm really saying.

The way I see it there's only one loser if this deal goes through US!! By all means sell to Monaco or whatever, but god don't sell to a direct rival! I just know he won't fail against us like that cunt who went to the Chavs.
I know we will have £40m + but seriously we will be taking a huge chance in signing the right replacement! We can still strengthen other areas without selling Suarez as well.

Agree.

Don't see what's the point of reading his body language. He's already said he doesn't want to stay so what else is new?

Point is he stays if we don't sell.

Only if the two players they take out of the team to play the new ones are worth zero points.

That's a fair point. I suppose the crux of this is whether it's really realistic for us to be going all out for the top 4 against Man Utd (might not win the league under Moyes, but drop to 5th??), Chelsea with that squad and Mourinho, Man City with all they've got, and Arsenal, who were better than us last year and seem to have £50m+ to improve on that position. I'm not sure it is. We might well just be better off taking the money and investing it across the team in young or otherwise undervalued players with the aim of things coming together in 3 or 4 years.

Well firstly it's purely theoretical, but more significantly I could say the points are in terms of contribution relative to the best alternative.

Whats really the point in listening when you're farting on about hypothetical situations and pulling random things out of the air! The FACT is that we will be weakened and they will be stronger based on the deal that's on the table, not by some mad football equation put together by someone trying to back up a mad hunch.

I thought you'd come back with something irrelevant like this. I'll try to put it more directly. They apparently have £50m to improve their squad. Whatever happens, you'd expect them to improve a LOT compared to us because of that spending power. Just because Suarez would improve them doesn't mean that would be the best use of that money.

Thing is, I don't see other top sides clamoring for his signature.

PSG made Cavani their target, Monaco went unerringly for Falcao and Napoli (with the Cavani money + a chunk) don't seem interested in at least trying. He'd spun for Madrid /Bayern in a heartbeat but no sign of any concrete interest there either.

In England, the Manchester clubs and Chelsea are looking elsewhere too even though he's made it clear he'll consider a move within England.

Maybe he's not a highly rated elsewhere as we think? Does his disciplinary record put potential suitors off? Or is there a recognition that a Liverpool side set - up around him overstates his worth?

Sure, Its irrelevant because its assessing whats actually on the table. They gain a 25 goal a season striker and we lose one. Id say thats improving them ALOT compared to us. Also I don't trust us to do any better spending the money we get from than they would have in other positions. At least we know what Suarez brings to the table and its world class. Arguably the only world class player we have.

This chimes with a couple of posts I've made previously.

Good player that he is you have to wonder why no-one else has surfaced.

He is a gamble, not for his playing ability but because of his innate character and the negative reputational effect.

50m would tick a lot of boxes for the club I'd guess.
