No worries. I've also updated the lfc Athletic thread as well but i assume you're aware of that[emoji1787]

We wouldn’t normally play someone so soon..if this is true.
Edit: nah Sunday too soon, he wouldn’t have really trained with the rest of them,

Klopp never throws players in. He'll need to serve his time in training before we see any sign of him. It may be several weeks.

There are exceptions...
Van Dijk was thrown in, so was Keita and Alisson.
Van Dijk, I grant you, albeit in the FA cup rather than the league. The other two were signed in the summer window and made their full debuts around a month after signing, so they really were not thrown in.

Mané and Salah scored on opening day debuts didn’t they? But they had been with the squad for 7 weeks before then.

Exactly. You can only be thrown in if you're bought during the season. I can't remember if Jota was played straight away. Was he?

I think so. I’ve tried to look at Klopp’s January signings and only can Dijk can be classed as one you’d expect to be a first teamer and went straight in. Minamino, Grujic and Gordon aren’t expected to be like that.

He was and scored within ten days of signing.

[article]Diogo Jota marked his home debut with a goal as Liverpool came from behind to beat Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield.

Also, Alisson doesn't count in this discussion. The other option was Karius whose previous game was the CL final in Ukraine. At that point, if @Modo had turned up at Anfield with gloves, he would have a higher chance of playing than Karius.

Ming was around, wasn't he?

We've got 7 games to play by the end of Feb, Salah and Mane have been playing a lot of football in muggy conditions, and Diaz already plays very similar to Sadio in just about everything he does. I can understand allowing the likes of Robertson and Fabinho time to adapt and learn the defensive positioning required for our system, but I wouldn't anticipate Diaz to need much to be able to play LW effectively for us.

I hope he's competing for a starting spot by Burnley on the 13th Feb.

If Diaz is with the squad from today or tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start next Thursday. As you say @Squiggles, we won’t be changing his game too much so he’ll probably fit straight in.

Yeah, I expect Diaz will play against Burnley in some capacity. Klopp talked before about not overloading a player with information at first, letting them show what they can do and then starting to gradually give them feedback and guidance. You need actual games for this process. For defensive players it's different because we defend very much as a unit and they need time to learn the new systems (especially if they are not familiar with 4-3-3 like Fabs and Thiago who both were used to double-pivot).

Diaz will need to learn a few things about the pressing game, but it's far less crucial in his position and I think he will be getting minutes right away and the rest will depend on how he does.

He might be serving his time elsewhere if customs officers decide to take an undue interest in that flight... plata o plomo

Bruno Fernandes also adapted insanely quickly, which did put my mind at ease about Diaz. Similar to Suarez coming from Ajax, sometimes players just have so much quality the difference in leagues becomes a non-issue. Fingers crossed Diaz is one of them.

Lets hope that you are right and he does not become like the odd few who didn't, like a Fernando Morientes or Chelsea's Timo Werner

That is not a flight change at CDG airport, that is taking a city break on the way home, and so is delaying him from joining the squad.

He's taking the piss
The useless prick. Or he’s stopping off whilst sorting visas and shit.

He’ll be getting his VISA. Needs to visit Colombian Embassy outside the UK. Not sure exactly how it works but something like the VISA needs to be issued or certified outside the UK so he has permission to enter the UK as an employee before he can do so. Have seen this before with another non-EU player.

EDIT - coming back to me now, it’s actually a UK Embassy he needs to visit (and it’s VISA / work permit), hence needed to go to Paris as there are no UK embassies in the UK. They do a 24-hour priority service and issue the work permit, then he’s allowed to enter the UK for work. Suspect this wouldn’t have been possible at a UK embassy in Argentina (?} because not every embassy offers the priority service.
