Thinks he owns the place

Appaz out for at least 2 months. Sakho should be starting regardless but the joy some expressed towards one of our players getting injured was cringeworthy.
Been shit and not good enough but hope recovers quickly regardless.

Sakho needs to stay fit now.

Liverpool win, Dreamy makes a sensible post and now this all in the space of 24 hours. I'm buying a lottery ticket.

Hope he makes a full recovery

We've got Gomez and at least Moreno appears to be getting some form back to allow Gomez to revert to CB if needs be.

It will hopefully help us out. I don't see him as part of our future and hopefully it results in Gomez getting some time in the centre alongside Sakho. If Gomez steps up it will force our hand to get rid of Lovren (who will essentially be a very expensive 4th choice squaddie)

Ideally you'd be hoping your morals transcend football and wish him a speedy recovery and all that... but I hate him and he's fucking shit. Not arsed. In fact, I am arsed. I don't want him anywhere near the team. If him getting injured is the way to achieve that, as seems the case with Rodgers' insistence on playing him, then so be it. Meh.

That's just awful.

The gif I mean, Rodgers clearly felt he had to play him because of the fee. The injury removes that problem

Lovren will be fine, he'll be well looked after, handsomely paid. And the team will be better without him.

There's no losers in this one

Yep, thats pretty much spot on.

As for that goal yesterday. Awful defending from start to finish. The defence doesnt work toegther as a unit at all.
Either they all step up or they keep dropping off.

He's a poor player. He seems to give off this terrible attitude that I'm sure is probably misunderstood somewhere along the line, but I can't remember a more unanimously disliked Liverpool player, unless they'd done something really horrible like Diouf, or they represented something really horrible like Konchesky and Poulsen did.

It makes me angry that gif.
He's up there with the worst defenders I've seen play for the club.
20 million worth of nonce.

Insane. Skrtel isnt exactly doing a great job either tbf.

It's a mismatch of defending approaches. Skrtel and someone else tracking their runners, the full backs holding their line and dropping back, Lovren stepping out. Fuck knows what communication is going on.

The most mental thing for me is that if you step out towards an attacker you need to show them on a particular side. Lovren appears to be showing the carlisle player into the massive gap caused by Skrtel. It's insane.

Yeah I started to post something that slightly absolved Lovren. But it's really hard to justify literally every part of his movement and decision there.

It's like he's playing his own game

Yeah, when you look at the goal the defence is actually in a decent line to start with and then Lovren steps up, Skrtel drops further back and the full backs sit tight. As you say no communication at all.

Lovren is a self indulgent defender. He gambles on situations and doesn't have the patience or obedience to play the percentages when defending. He jumps in, he over commits himself and by doing this he actually takes himself out of the phase of play time and time again. This must be down to arrogance. He probably genuinely thinks he can nick it or else he just doesn't care. I really don't get him. He looked to be a genuine leader in his first two or three games but quickly seemed to assume an individual playing style. It's as if he is constantly trying to atone for a past mistake but sadly he compounds the situation by making yet another error.

So what can he do to survive here? He needs to stick to the basics for a start. Why on earth is he attempting double step overs shortly after making a mistake in the West Ham game? Probably that arrogance creeping in again combined with his desire to atone for a previous mistake. We also need to try create a defensive unit so that he's allowed to stay centrally. A lot of his errors have been as a result of Lovren wandering out left to either cover space or follow a runner. I'm also baffled how easily he is beaten in one on one situations. I don't know if he can recover here. A move to a new club might benefit both parties. He's an international defender. He'll fetch 10 million. Unfortunately we're going to have to cut our loses and move on.

Actually it's worse than I thought. Clyne is tracking a runner, Moreno is holding his line. So far so good, except that when the runners go through the centre Moreno is far too slow to narrow the space. He's got no-one attacking wide so he should be closer to the centre backs.

Skrtel tracks the runner but either doesn't tell Can or Can doesn't notice, because Emre does nothing to cut off the space, which he should do immediately when he sees Skrtel making the run. Lovren makes a hash of coming out but if Can has moved across to cover the space left by Skrtel then it's possible he could have made things more difficult for Carlisle.

It does highlight though either a lack of communication or understanding between the centre backs.
