Liverpool, Wataru upto?

Yes, persist with.

Mac has been found lacking a fair few time this season because he's effectively playing on his own in midfield. It's no surprise we've looked better and more defensively solid when szob drops back to assist when we inevitably drop to 10 men.

Do you really think replacing him with an inferior player would solve this?

It looks like the setup works well with both Jones & Szob on the pitch because they're ball retention machines and know exactly what to do. With either of them out, we have to rely on Elliott and Gravenberch who aren't anywhere close to that level yet. I'd consider starting Endo and moving Macca to the left but only until Curtis returns tbh

Mac absolutely should be further up. Him and Jones should be competing for that LCM role and for me I'm excited to see who wins out.

Endo is an inferior player to Mac, clearly. However I'm cautiously hopeful that endo is a better DM than Mac.

heard he had a good international game .was boss seemingly
Not sure if you were referring to Mac or Endo but in any case :

Against Paraguay. If you saw any of the match then yes you'll know he played really well but was literally under zero pressure. It was nothing like a PL game.

Endo had an excellent game against Canada but again, it was Canada not a PL team. Regardless good to see both of them playing well.

I'm pretty sure Klopp is going for : Gravenberch - Mac - Szobo with Jones & Endo as the backups. As Gravy progresses we'll likely see this more and more but the fact we haven't seen Endo there in the more high profile matches seems to indicate that either he's not up to par yet in training or he doesn't figure in Klopp's more long term (next season) plans for the starting lineup.

I reckon you might well be on to something there. As I remember it Klopp didn't regularly field a DM in his Bundesliga days, and there was some murmuring on here and elsewhere after he arrived at LFC and didn't seem to be going the DM route here either. Maybe signing one (Endo) was always going to be a short-term fix while longer term plans were put in place.

Honestly @Frogfish - I get it - you like so many others love the way Gravy moves - but he gives the ball away and for large parts of that Brighton game he was absent in that 2nd half. No I think the starters are pretty set in stone - even if we get a specialist (or better) 6. It's going to be:

Jones - (other guy) - Szob

and all other midfielders will be backup to the above 3. Jones ain't backup - I know it's difficult for many Liverpool fans to like a player from Liverpool who does not come out as being humble - but the truth is - he's one of the best players we have.

I have another theory - that I think needs to be tried out - I would like to see Mac//Endo in that midfield while Curtis is out, I think that could work well.

Jones is decent, but Grav mac and szob are the future.

It’s probably worth mentioning that Mac A is our most experienced midfielder in terms of the Premier League.

I’m pretty certain he’s the guy that Klopp is looking to as the lynchpin and leader in his new midfield - almost like the new Henderson - he’ll be the one least likely to rotate out but more likely to rotate through the 3 midfield positions.

I also feel like Badger might get more opportunities at RB for a little while - which might not be a bad thing if he’s inverting and dropping into midfield rather than hugging the touchline.

Jones is not 'just decent" - you guys are uttering bollox - you know he is better that keeping the ball better than any of our other players - like ALL OF THEM !!!

Problem, especially in a Klopp team, is that he keeps the ball longer than anyone as well. Messes up good opportunities for counter attacks or quick interplay to get through on goal. It's why Klopp hardly played him for a couple of years, and also why he gets more playing time now because he's slowly improving on that aspect. Still too slow a brain for me.

Mac Allister (On playing as a No. 6 for LFC & Argentina): — “I played more or less like I do at
@LFC
, it’s a new position but I feel very comfortable. Scaloni asks me to manage the balance of the team, to take care of the relays and to take care of myself when I leave.”

Fucks sake - that's all we need. Scaloni can just fuck right off, now that he is starting to abuse Mac as well.

Christ. Not like they won a world cup when he was further forward is it

Is the problem not more that he just doesn't do anything with the ball? Picks it up on the left, does a little shimmy cuts back and lays it back or square before drifting off somewhere......rinse and repeat in any game Jones plays in. You know what you're gonna get from him and every game is the same standard performance.

He's almost as safe as Gini was with the ball, he's sure as slow as him. Not my type of midfielder or the type I gravitate towards.

I know things are different now but, in our original glory days, major signings were often introduced via the ressies for a while to get them settled in. I know players probably wouldn't want to sign now if that was what awaited them, but there were defo advantages to it.

Another 90 under his belt as Japan ran out 2-0 winners over Tunisia.

Japan very impressive over these breaks.

He's barely had an opportunity is why. His best performance by a mile was when he got a start against Leicester and he was arguably MOM in that game. He was excellent.
We play Mac in the 6 and he struggles because he isn't the most mobile and needs someone next to him in a double pivot. We've got nothing Toulouse

Someone post that header ... and then a highlights reel. Brilliant display. He was a fucking machine in midfield and made me sing the Sangria song when he scored!
