For all the moanings about the left back issue, our real problem is the engine room. Left backs is just icing of the cake, but when your centre midfield is as limited as ours it doesnt matter who we put in there.
Kenny definitely wants some local presence with Spearing, which is nice to see. It's a big gamble though, and I really hope that he can keep his head. Potential red card?
Well, Kenny obviously believes we need to play with an out-and-out DM: Poulsen was a disaster, so Spearing gets his chance. Huge amount of pressure on the lad though, especially as he's just coming back from injury. Lucas and Ming will need to help him out back there, or we'll get overrun again.
I'm mystified as to why Aurelio isn't starting. He gives us so much more balance and composure at LB than anyone else we have.

Dear God in Heaven, how, HOW?!?!?, did we end up with a midfield that shit?

Xabi replaced by Aquilani; Mascher replaced by Poulsen.
the midfield is poor, but could have been worse, POULSEN! I'm still undecided on this shelvey lad. Good to see dani in there. Some good options off the bench.
I can understand the idea of having an out and out DM. I can also understand the idea of replacing Poulsen with Spearing.
But I just can't understand the idea of playing Lucas and Meireles. That midfield has zero creativity. Replace Lucas with Shelvey at least?
Also, I really hope Johnson isn't at left-back. He's not the best of defenders but at least at right-back, he offers an excellent attacking option.
I really fear that we're going to struggle to create anything today. It's marginally better than the line-up against Blackpool but it has to be said that this is bewildering from Kenny.
