I would like to see Kenny get some local lads involved in this. Kelly is almost a must but I think Spearing (although not exactly great - but better than lucas!) could be a surprise addition to provide some energy and passion in the centre.

The team I'd ideally like to see start though would be:

----------Reina------------
Kelly--Greek--Skrtel--Aurelio
-----Merieles--Shelvey-----
Kuyt------Cole--------Maxi
----------Torres

Even though Kuyt has been off form recently, he is one of our few big game players, and we need him to step up in this one. Maxi plays a lot better at home so i'd like to see him start again and this is Cole's chance to show he can actually play in the centre behind the striker.

I haven't given up on him yet in the Masher role.

Surprise inclusion there then, though he's local so maybe that's what Kenny is thinking, I can't believe he's picking Johnson at fullback again though, and I hope it's not left back.

He has at times looked promising in his defensive duties but a lot of the times I remember seeing him play under Rafa he was a bit further up the pitch where his passing and ball control were under more pressure.

If he does start I think it is a great move from Kenny to get some steel in the middle

True!

I've seen Jay Spearing though fail to find his man 5 yards away, over and over again. Whilst Mash wasn't the worlds best passer, saying that Jay is a contender for the Masher role 'because he can run about and make a nuisance of himself' is a joke.

Masher is one of the worlds best defensive midfielders, and Jay Spearing will never 'fill that role'. If we think like that then maybe Mark Noble can fill the Gerrard role in a few years, and we could get DJ Campbell to fill the Torres role.
 
I've seen him play well, but most of the time he's looked quite mediocre. Hopefully he'll be willing to get stuck in and give us the steel that Lucas and Poulsen clearly lack.

Saying that he's gotta do better than Poulsen '5 attempted tackles, 1 successful, against Blackpool' isnt a stretch though.

Plus, dont underestimate the fact Kenny wants a 'local' lad in (I know he's from the Wirral).
 
I would much rather have SPearing than Poulson. I thought he'd a broken ankle though. Still, even if he has and he's on crutches, I'd rather have him that Poulson.

I don't think we'll miss that 1 tackle that Poulson makes in big games.

He played his comeback game for the reserves in the week so it's quite a gamble to start him today.

He is replacing awful with bad. Wish I could get excited about Spearing, but he is just not very good at all.
