Liverpool v West Bromwich Albion Match Thread

It’s due to rain this weekend but no, not really. I have a terrible time with my lovely Irish complexion. Good golf in winter though, I guess that’s something.

Surely after a few years there, you learn how to tan though? 🙂

I hate that most of our midfielders seems to be shirking their responsibilities in attack and are just relying on our "Fab four".

You see players stopping abruptly even when they have space to attack, pass the ball to Coutinho, and drop back. It's like they are under instructions to cover defensively for him. We no longer have midfielders making forward runs, Gini and Can seems to be just "sitting" and not attacking.

The only player outside of the four who dares to attack is TAA. The rest of them are just tentative and unsure. Even Lovren seems to stride forward more confidently than Can/Gini.
Maybe that's why we have been better defensively recently

Karius 8
Trent 7
Lovren 7
Klavan 8
Robertson 7
Can 5
Wijnaldum 5
Mane 5
Salah 6
Firmino 6
Coutinho 6

Subs:
Oxlade-Chamberlain 7.
Solanke 4
Gomez 6.5

Indeed, its got to be a tactical thing, Can and Gini played like automotans last night, super limited , wonky-ass automatons who shit the bed immedately after passing the half way line.

What made it worse was Phil continuously coming deep to retrieve the ball and trot forwards, its like we had three deep playing midfielders at times, at home, against fucking West Brom, managed by cunting Pardew.

Its great coz we can defend now.

Where are all these high ratings for TAA coming from? He was fuckin rubbish.

Yep was saying this to a mate last night, I just don’t get the hype. People just jumping on the ‘young, he will come good’ bandwagon. He’s not good enough and he is not the only one.

We were shite. Agreed.
It was a handball - 100% - but for the life of me I cannot see that as 'intentional'. I think Klopp said if that was a defender in the box, would they have called a penalty? Probably not ...

We were shit though.

It doesnt matter if intentional or not, you cant score with your hand. They brought a new ruling out a couple of years ago after that Koscielny one against Burnley. You remember it? 95th Minute, cross came in and he was at the far post, the ball hit is knee, bounced up to his flailing arm and then into the net. The Ref gave it. So they changed the rules to prevent that happening again.

Correct decision by the Ref last night.

But yeah, overall, we were shit. Ive got no complaints about the result.

On a positive note, I thought AOC was very promising when he came on. Wanted the ball and tried to get things going. I like him.

He's been that way for the past 6-8 times he's been on the pitch. Always making a contribution in both defence and attack and always looking to go forward. His passing seems to be a level higher than Wijnaldum's and two levels better than Can (who was shite again yesterday). We definitely seem to switch up a gear when he's on the pitch.
I wanted him to start (see my pre-match team) pity he didn't.

Aoc was clearly told to basically be a forward, so its hard comparing his performance to those of can/gini who whilstpoor, were much deeper.

Nah, as you said, Everton parked the bus and had no interest in attacking. Our goal came from a piece of magic, and we created one other golden chance. For the majority of the game we passed it from byline to byline 30 yards from goal, eventually lumping the ball in the box, only for it to be returned to us for us to repeat the cycle. It wasn't very good at all. For the most part, Everton defended comfortably.
That's what happens whenever we play any team that has no interest in attacking.

FWIW I had no issue with the side he played, as I said before the match in the pre match thread when the team was announced.

I think against sides that play two banks for four we can only break them down with a moment of magic or a perfect split second ball and/or run.

These forward players all look a percentage slower than usual, just in decision making & pace, probably due to constant games & travelling.

I have much, much more of a problem with Klopp reveling in goals against Spartak instead of resting players once the game was won, than I do with the derby side.

That because imo it was reckless & put in danger the emphasis on points over this entire period & keeping players fresh for January to avoid a repeat of last year, which is surely what this rotation is aiming to do.

I don't buy this showboating argument against Spartak. He was forced to sub Moreno early. He protected Lovren on 60 minutes. Whilst people may say better to protect one of the 'fab 4', we have decent depth in the attacking side of things, but we are struggling at CB with Matip's injury. It was a responsible decision. On 72 mins he subbed one of the 'fab 4'. He had to choose 1. He chose Firmino. Fair dos.

He could not have rested any more. This is another of those arguments that doesn't actually fit with the facts and situation in my opinion.

I agree.

If Moreno wouldnt have got hurt, I think he definitely would have took Salah/Mane/Coutinho off later in the game.

First you claim to want to make me feel good, then you don't. What a contrary soul you are. And what on earth is 'rose-tinted bile'? Maybe you should stick to acting like you hate the club, the players and the manager in the match threads. That's what we all know and not love you for.

You’re so kind mate. Thanks.
